00:00Have you ever received a text that your reward points are about to expire?
00:06It's embarrassing, but is it really true?
00:10With the rapid development of technology,
00:13many scams are spreading that are taking away your trust and your information.
00:21Here are the reward points scams that can take away your permission instead of the prize.
00:29What's surprising is that sometimes the message comes from the official platform of your service providers
00:37such as e-money, bank, and others.
00:40How can you avoid being fooled and protect your data from this type of phishing scam?
00:48Let's find out the tips about it here on MIL 101.
00:53RSP, it's time for another type of phishing scam.
01:01It's been a while since we talked about the reward points scams
01:06where the victim's accounts are taken away.
01:10But what is a reward point scam?
01:13This is a type of scam where scammers use reward points
01:18from your service provider, credit card, or bank account.
01:23They make the victim believe that their points are about to expire
01:28or that there's a special promo that needs to be redeemed to get their personal information.
01:35How do they victimize people and get their information?
01:39First, through calls or texts.
01:42Usually, the scammer will call or text
01:45to let them know that they are a bank, service provider, e-money, or credit card company.
01:51They will tell them that you have an urgent offer or that your points are about to expire.
01:56So, let's note that if the scammer used a random prepaid number,
02:01nowadays, they also use the official platforms or number of organizations.
02:08Second, phishing websites or links.
02:11They will send links, texts, or emails
02:14that will show the official website of your bank or credit card.
02:18If you open it, it will ask for your personal information
02:22such as your card details, PIN, and OTP.
02:26Third, the OTP or one-time password.
02:31If they get your OTP, they will have access to use your account,
02:38get money, and make a transaction.
02:42You will be the one to pay.
02:44What will happen if you are the victim of this scam?
02:48Your money will be gone and you will not be able to get it back.
02:52Your information can also be used for other scams.
02:58The question is, what are the red flags that you should remember?
03:03First, urgency, deceiving and texts,
03:06and you are encouraged to click a link or send your details quickly
03:12because your points are about to expire.
03:15Second, unsolicited calls or messages.
03:18You will be called or texted even if you are not waiting for a transaction or promo.
03:24Third, it asks for OTP or personal information.
03:28Remember, OTP does not ask for PIN or card details of your small bank.
03:36Fourth, suspicious links.
03:39Check if the website or link you are sending has a different URL,
03:44spelling errors, or is not secure.
03:52Another question, what should we do to avoid scams?
03:56First, do not give information.
04:00Do not give PIN, OTP, or card details
04:05even if the call is from a bank or telco.
04:10Second, verify the call or text.
04:13Call the official hotline of your bank
04:16to confirm if your call or message is legitimate.
04:21Third, do not click a link.
04:24If you received a suspicious link, do not open it.
04:28Just log in to the official website of your bank.
04:32Fourth, set alerts and download antivirus or spam software.
04:38Activate the notification for all transactions in your account.
04:43Download the software to see the latest activity.
04:48Lastly, report if you received a scam message or call.
04:52Report it to your bank or National Telecommunications Commission or NCC
04:57or to the Department of Information and Communications Technology or DICT.
05:03A reminder to the public,
05:05this type of scam is now no use.
05:07Be careful and watch out for every transaction,
05:10online or by telephone.
05:12That's what we talked about in MIL-101.
