00:00:00Previously, our blockheads kicked off back yard work.
00:00:04Managed chaos.
00:00:05I've never seen so many trucks, so many guys, so many pieces of machinery and equipment
00:00:11operating in the one place.
00:00:14One team failed to keep up.
00:00:16They've turned around the delivery for the timber, for the steel, for everything that
00:00:20we ordered from Minotown.
00:00:21Because of the congestion in the driveway.
00:00:23Deliveries affects us at the back of the block at the moment.
00:00:26Nothing's getting through.
00:00:27They faced one setback after another.
00:00:30What's this I hear about, you're not getting delivery of plants?
00:00:34We were under the impression that all our plants were sorted.
00:00:37Clay's trying really hard to stay on top of everything.
00:00:39Apparently that was not quite the case.
00:00:41There's a lot of work to be done back there, that's for sure.
00:00:45Tonight, it's the final push to reveal, but Carly and Brad fall even further behind.
00:00:53Everyone else's yards are developing and ours isn't.
00:00:56It's a pretty dire situation.
00:00:57A major problem is found in house one.
00:01:00Can't be revealed.
00:01:01No, it's got to go.
00:01:02What?
00:01:03Sorry guys.
00:01:04The boys have put so much hard work in and I can't afford this mistake.
00:01:08And the backyards are revealed to the judges.
00:01:11Oh my God.
00:01:13What on earth?
00:01:15With special guest and landscape guru, Dave Franklin, joining the line up.
00:01:19As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
00:01:21It does scream resort.
00:01:23No offence, but it's just landscaping.
00:01:26What we're seeing is a really poorly planned, uninviting space.
00:01:48Saturday on the block is crazy every week, but backyard week is just another story.
00:01:55You have so many people.
00:01:57There is so many people.
00:02:00You have people working on top of each other.
00:02:02The landscapers are running around like trying to plant trees and there's heaps of them and
00:02:05we're trying to dig holes to help them.
00:02:08You have people coming in for the pool.
00:02:10You have the dream court going in.
00:02:14Yeah, there was just a million things happening.
00:02:20The Canadian Charlotte's backyard stretches across 448 square metres in size.
00:02:25It will include a half-sized basketball court and recreation area, as well as a spiral staircase
00:02:31to the mezzanine of their home.
00:02:33Around the corner will be their above ground pool, a deck and an outdoor kitchen, as well
00:02:39as a dining and lounge area, a fire pit area with a pizza oven and a deck off the main
00:02:44suite.
00:02:45It is very frantic.
00:02:46We've got all our carpenters giving us a chop out here for the decking.
00:02:50We've got plenty of decking to go.
00:02:51We've also got a barbecue area going in, which is really pretty cool.
00:02:54We're going to be racy for this one, I think.
00:02:56We always want to do an outdoor kitchen, like a fridge, a sink and a barbecue all in one.
00:03:01We're like, we'll do it ourselves and then we're like, oh, we need to put a bench top
00:03:07on it.
00:03:08Madeline went to go and pick up stone from like an hour and a half away because we got
00:03:12decked on quoted and it was going to be six grand and we cannot afford that.
00:03:17Our budget is looking very tight.
00:03:19Front yard is going to be very minimalistic.
00:03:22So, yeah, not looking great.
00:03:24We have to win this week.
00:03:30Next door in house two is Courtney and Grant's 403 square metre backyard.
00:03:34It will feature a large deck off their living area with an undercover barbecue, dining and
00:03:39lounge space, as well as a pizza oven.
00:03:42There'll also be a fire pit area, a pool with sun deck and an additional seating area with
00:03:47an outdoor fireplace.
00:03:58Saturday morning, we're off and running.
00:04:00We've got our new plants all laid out in the ground, they're ready to be put in.
00:04:05The mulch is ready to be installed and the turf is waiting to be rolled out nice and
00:04:10fresh.
00:04:12Feeling really good.
00:04:13Feeling really good.
00:04:14We're in a good position.
00:04:15We looked around last night and we're very happy with what we've produced.
00:04:17We're in a good spot.
00:04:18So, we're happy.
00:04:19Very happy.
00:04:20I'm happy.
00:04:22Believe it or not.
00:04:31Mate, this has come along nicely.
00:04:35Very chilled vibes over in house two.
00:04:36We're good.
00:04:37We're in a good spot.
00:04:38Very chilled vibes.
00:04:39Very chilled.
00:04:40Yeah.
00:04:42Dan thinks we're in a good position.
00:04:43I think, yeah, we're looking good.
00:04:44It feels nice and calming.
00:04:45It feels nice.
00:04:46Yeah.
00:04:47I feel like we're in a, yeah, we're in a good spot.
00:04:48We've still got a bit to do tonight, but it's like, it's doable.
00:04:49Yeah.
00:04:50So, with house two in such a good spot, they're the first to get their pool filled, with one
00:04:51final step to go.
00:04:52Miles, how are you, mate?
00:04:53Yeah, good.
00:04:54How are you doing?
00:04:55Just pouring in some of these revived minerals by Porite.
00:04:56And that's, I guess, instead of doing chlorophyll, you're doing chlorophyll.
00:04:57Yeah.
00:04:58Yeah.
00:04:59Yeah.
00:05:00Yeah.
00:05:01Yeah.
00:05:02Yeah.
00:05:03Yeah.
00:05:04Yeah.
00:05:05Yeah.
00:05:06Yeah.
00:05:07Yeah.
00:05:08So, I'm going to just pop in a couple of these revived minerals by Porite.
00:05:10And that's, I guess, instead of doing chlorine, this is a lot healthier?
00:05:12Yeah, yeah.
00:05:13So Gone Are The Days of The Red Eyes.
00:05:15Yeah.
00:05:16These actually help you maintain the balance in the pool.
00:05:18They're actually good for your skin and hair.
00:05:20That's awesome, mate.
00:05:21All right, well, I'll leave you to it.
00:05:22Welcome to our garden.
00:05:23It's time to begin.
00:05:24Now, count it in.
00:05:25Five, six, seven, eight now...
00:05:26The boys' backyard is a massive 488 square metres in size.
00:05:27The boys' backyard is a massive 488 square metres in size.
00:05:34It will feature their large wraparound lawn, a deck off their main bedroom, a large swing
00:05:40set and their huge plunging pool and deck area, with a mosaic feature wall behind it.
00:05:45The boys are teddy landscaping, hammering away, getting the edging done, turf's getting
00:05:50laid, tons of pots to go in.
00:05:53Plenty of turf here, the outdoor deck off the main bedroom, more turf, cricket pitch
00:05:58turf.
00:05:59Yeah, we've got to finish off the turf, finish off this deck here, finish off the deck over
00:06:03the other side, and then furnish it.
00:06:06No landscaping, no problems, R&H, we've got this.
00:06:13Next door in house four, Carly and Brad have the smallest backyard at 378 square metres.
00:06:18Their space includes their stone cladded pool, a timber boardwalk and large stone pavers.
00:06:24They'll also have a fire pit area with their curved concrete bench, as well as a narrow
00:06:29yard leading around to the side of the property, where they'll have a lawn plus a private entrance
00:06:35to the communal tennis court.
00:06:39What's happening with your landscaping?
00:06:49Next question.
00:06:50I don't know what's happening.
00:06:54Not much.
00:06:58There's a lot to do and everyone else's yards are developing and ours isn't.
00:07:03I'm concerned and it stresses Brad out, so.
00:07:09Where are we?
00:07:10Where are we at?
00:07:11What are we doing?
00:07:12We're going to try and get this as presentable as we can for you, mate.
00:07:15So just do what we can.
00:07:18Yeah, it's a pretty dire situation.
00:07:22Yeah.
00:07:23We're significantly behind in the backyard, there's been huge amounts of construction
00:07:28going on there still.
00:07:29I know you're stressed out, mate, so am I, but come on, I want to get this done for you.
00:07:35Yeah, I know.
00:07:36My priorities are just to look after you as best I can and try and get you through as
00:07:39best I can, okay?
00:07:40There's always a way, if we just put our heads together and our minds to it and work together,
00:07:44we're going to get stuff done.
00:07:45Look, yeah, look, we're behind, there's no other way to describe it.
00:07:53We are a small team and we're working to a semi-limited budget, so we're doing the very
00:07:59best we can.
00:08:00But I'm not going to give up, I'm not going to give up on Brad and Kylie, we're just going
00:08:05to do our best to get it done, so.
00:08:07So we've got 890 kilos of steel edging we've got to put somewhere.
00:08:11Yeah.
00:08:12I'll tell you what, if you can just, I'll get Longy up here, if you can work with him
00:08:15on getting a spot, I'll get it in here.
00:08:16All right, do that.
00:08:17Let's do that.
00:08:18Let's get through today.
00:08:19Come on.
00:08:20Clay sort of said that, no, like, no matter what, I'm backing you guys, like, I'm going
00:08:30to make sure that you have a garden to finish, like, I'm not leaving it like this, but definitely
00:08:36getting worried about running behind or even getting it done.
00:08:43Over in House 5, it's the biggest backyard on the block, coming in at 552 square metres.
00:08:52Christian and Mimi's yard features a pool surrounded by a timber deck and a separate
00:08:56dining area with a drinks bar.
00:08:58Then there'll be a curvy path leading to the other side of the house, where they're putting
00:09:03a basketball court, a fire pit and a seating area.
00:09:08Today, we need to finish off the garden lights.
00:09:11We've got lawn coming, we've got more soil, we've got mulching.
00:09:17Swimming pool needs to be grouted and cleaned and filled.
00:09:22We've got fences going in.
00:09:23We've got to clean, we've got to style, there's so much work to do.
00:09:30And where were you on Saturday, Mimi?
00:09:35I had an event that I went to.
00:09:41Don't stop, stop the music.
00:09:44We run fast, it's like a morning.
00:09:47He just tours and he just plays Disney and Nickelodeon music.
00:09:52And I was losing my mind.
00:09:55Phew, I'm tired.
00:09:57Trust me, that's the price of beauty.
00:10:01Who says you're not pretty?
00:10:03Who says you're not beautiful?
00:10:05Who's to say?
00:10:07But you raced back to the block, you were there for pre-start?
00:10:10I was not there for pre-start, I came at midday.
00:10:14Doesn't matter where or when there's trouble, if you just call my name, impossible.
00:10:22Call me, beat me, if you want to pitch me, when you want to pitch me, it's okay.
00:10:26And it's never you, me, me, me, me.
00:10:28Best night ever.
00:10:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:33Good afternoon.
00:10:35I told you to be home before midnight.
00:10:39It's not midnight.
00:10:41It's not midnight.
00:10:43You're turning into a pumpkin.
00:10:45But at least he did something productive after.
00:10:47Ah!
00:10:49Mimi, Mimi!
00:10:51Mimi!
00:10:53Mimi!
00:10:55Coming up, Dan and Simo uncover a huge problem in house one.
00:10:59Where'd you get this stuff from?
00:11:01It's no longer produced, manufactured, shipped in to Australia.
00:11:05So I don't even know how the girls got it here.
00:11:07If you present a room without a bench top, you've taken yourself out of the running to win.
00:11:23It's Saturday afternoon of Backyard Week and our blockheads are busy tackling some of the largest spaces we've seen this season.
00:11:31And amongst the mayhem, the modular walls are going up.
00:11:37The divide.
00:11:39The divide of house three and four.
00:11:41And the pool cleaners are going in.
00:11:43What's up, mate?
00:11:45Dan?
00:11:47Is this the robot we're talking about?
00:11:49Yeah, this is the one.
00:11:51Mate, explain to me, obviously it cleans pools, but what's so special about it?
00:11:53It's got a double filtration system.
00:11:55It cleans the walls, the floors, and the tile line.
00:11:59And the tile line?
00:12:01And the tile line.
00:12:03Comes up all the way, that's pretty impressive.
00:12:05That's it, and it won't clean twice.
00:12:07It's got smart navigation in it.
00:12:09So it knows where it's going in the pool.
00:12:11Yep, that's right.
00:12:13That's amazing.
00:12:15Meanwhile in house four, the finish line is still nowhere in sight.
00:12:17Absolute pig store.
00:12:19We need to get this done.
00:12:21It's not going to get done.
00:12:23And even if we do, it's going to look like s***.
00:12:25But there's one trade who's heard their struggles.
00:12:27And he's on his way to offer a hand.
00:12:29Clay.
00:12:31How are you?
00:12:33Good, mate.
00:12:35How are you travelling?
00:12:37Miles behind where the other dogs, mate.
00:12:39What have you still got to do?
00:12:41Look, we've got to mount the soil to come in.
00:12:43I've got all my steel edging here ready to go.
00:12:45We've got the plants.
00:12:47Really just three quarters of this lawn.
00:12:49Well, we've just got to finish off some lawn.
00:12:51I can come down and help you move some soil in here.
00:12:53Oh, really?
00:12:55We'll just tell me what I can do in return.
00:12:57Yeah, so as soon as that soil comes here,
00:12:59just give us a call.
00:13:01We'll come down with half a dozen barrels
00:13:03and start burrowing it in for you.
00:13:05Are you serious?
00:13:07Yeah, absolutely.
00:13:09I don't even know what to say.
00:13:11Mate, we want everyone to finish.
00:13:13It's full on, you know what I mean?
00:13:15It kicks you in the guts, mate.
00:13:17They're a long, long, long way away.
00:13:19So yeah, of course, if we can help,
00:13:21of course we're going to help.
00:13:23And to be a new trade
00:13:25in landscaping
00:13:27is...
00:13:29I can understand, like, it'd be so overwhelming
00:13:31because you have a plan
00:13:33but things don't go to plan.
00:13:35You're also trying to do, like,
00:13:37a month's job in one week.
00:13:39They're going to help us.
00:13:41We're going to come and help you.
00:13:43Yeah, we'll just come and help you move all your soil in
00:13:45and we'll get all your turf laid for you.
00:13:49Yeah, because he's miles off and he's flat as a tack.
00:13:51Your turf's here, so we'll get it in.
00:13:55If we can help out, you know, if it's an hour, two hours, three hours,
00:13:57we'll just come and get it done for you.
00:13:59Thanks, Troy.
00:14:01Thanks, Troy. Really appreciate it.
00:14:03Troy's heard the struggles with clay
00:14:05and we need to catch up
00:14:07from all of the little
00:14:09hiccups along the way, I guess.
00:14:11The Minnesota Works
00:14:13come and dropped off all our topsoil.
00:14:15What, him and four other boys were down there
00:14:17wheelbarrowing it in.
00:14:19Just in this block, boys.
00:14:21Thanks, boys.
00:14:23Because he has done the block a few times now,
00:14:25he just got in there
00:14:27and was even just like to Clay,
00:14:29you're doing this, you're doing that,
00:14:31Brad and I were in there getting advice
00:14:33about what we need to be doing
00:14:35because we don't landscape.
00:14:37So all of us doing that,
00:14:39it was probably done in less than
00:14:41two hours.
00:14:43It just kind of turned around.
00:14:45Excellent.
00:14:47Massive help.
00:14:51I'm going to let you finish off.
00:14:53You've done amazing
00:14:55and full credit to you for today
00:14:57and how you've gone so far.
00:15:01Massive effort by Troy
00:15:03from the other day.
00:15:05He didn't have to do that.
00:15:07He could have just,
00:15:09you know, he's finished, he's got a good team.
00:15:11It's a big team.
00:15:13He could have just left it as it is
00:15:15and came down and gave us a massive chop out
00:15:17and credit where credit's due.
00:15:19Good bloke.
00:15:21If anyone lives in the western suburbs,
00:15:23I'd definitely get him his goody **** together.
00:15:31I picked up these pieces of stone
00:15:33because we got
00:15:35a quote at the beginning of the week
00:15:37and it was like six grand.
00:15:39I had to go searching
00:15:41and I got
00:15:44a Caesar stone,
00:15:46like outdoor stone thingy
00:15:48for like literally
00:15:50one fifth of the price.
00:15:52So yeah, this should be fun.
00:15:54I assume that we need to secure the bottom
00:15:56before we secure the join, you know?
00:15:58So we're in the process
00:16:00of installing it
00:16:04and Dan and Simo came over
00:16:06Oh no.
00:16:08And that's when I was like
00:16:10oh crap.
00:16:12They looked at the stone.
00:16:14What's wrong with it?
00:16:16I don't know. You're about to find out.
00:16:18She's going in now.
00:16:20It's a major problem.
00:16:22What's the problem?
00:16:24Caesar stone.
00:16:26Where'd you get this stuff from?
00:16:28It's banned product.
00:16:30Banned product.
00:16:32Really?
00:16:34It's a banned product.
00:16:36Even though we haven't cut it on site or anything?
00:16:38Yeah, it's still a banned product.
00:16:40All Caesar stones banned.
00:16:42Any product with silica in it has been banned
00:16:44with a high percentage and this bench top
00:16:46has like 70% of it in there.
00:16:48So it's no longer
00:16:50produced, manufactured,
00:16:52shipped in to Australia.
00:16:54So I don't even know how the girls got it here.
00:16:56Surprisingly.
00:16:58Well it's the only thing they got it cheap.
00:17:04So we're going to have to get rid of it.
00:17:06Can we just leave it for the moment?
00:17:08Can't be a deal.
00:17:10Sorry guys.
00:17:14Dang it.
00:17:16It's like 5.30 now
00:17:18on a Saturday
00:17:20and we have no backup.
00:17:22Essentially if you present a room without a bench top
00:17:24you're taking yourself out of the running to win.
00:17:28Dang it.
00:17:30Have you got any spare towels?
00:17:32Yeah.
00:17:34Curse you guys are just leaving.
00:17:36To get some sky on down and tile it.
00:17:38Yeah and tile it.
00:17:42Can we give them a few more hours for tools?
00:17:44An hour or so?
00:17:46Yeah I'll give you another hour or so.
00:17:48There was tools down at 5 o'clock.
00:17:50We're going to give them till 6, 6.30.
00:17:52Hopefully they can get it solved.
00:17:54I don't know.
00:17:56Hello.
00:17:58Hello, hello. It's Charlotte from house one of the block.
00:18:00How are you going?
00:18:02Good. How are you doing?
00:18:04We're just driving out of the car park.
00:18:06Oh, do you want to do me?
00:18:08Well we just put in our Caesarstone bench top
00:18:10and we got told that we're not allowed
00:18:12to put in Caesarstone.
00:18:14Can't be a deal.
00:18:16Our only other option is to tile.
00:18:18Okay.
00:18:20I'll just come back
00:18:22and have a look to see if there's something we can do.
00:18:24Okay, amazing. Thanks so much.
00:18:26So hopefully we can come up with some sort of
00:18:28pattern with leftover tiles.
00:18:30What's going in these openings?
00:18:32Barbecue and sink.
00:18:34Oh wow.
00:18:38But the problem with tiling
00:18:40is that you need a substrate
00:18:42to obviously lay tiles on.
00:18:44And that's something we didn't have.
00:18:50I just don't have that material
00:18:52to do the substrate properly.
00:18:54That's my problem.
00:18:56We're going to spend money now.
00:18:58We're going to spend money now
00:19:00doing it all and then
00:19:02rip it all out and do it again.
00:19:04And time, like what have we got, some seven?
00:19:06Yeah, to make noise.
00:19:08I don't think it's worth it.
00:19:10What are you going to do?
00:19:12Well I'll just get it marked down
00:19:14and do it properly for the sale of the house.
00:19:18So my thing would be
00:19:20first you can quickly cut ply
00:19:22and then you can just drop the barbecue in there
00:19:24so it looks like what it is.
00:19:26Or just leave it how it is.
00:19:28So there's no chance of winning then.
00:19:30So you're going to do all this for 10 grand
00:19:32and you're going to pay for these guys
00:19:34to help and everyone else.
00:19:36Or at least finish everything else
00:19:38because Ryan's pushing it
00:19:40so you get another two boys helping him.
00:19:42So I'll be blunt, you're not going to do it.
00:19:44Seriously, you're going to waste your time.
00:19:46Let's do it properly.
00:19:48This makes me so sad.
00:19:52The plan is to put V-groove down instead
00:19:54and paint it
00:19:56and just prepare everything else.
00:19:58Just keep going along.
00:20:00Not waste too much time on it.
00:20:04It sucks because
00:20:06you just completely take yourself out of winning.
00:20:10The boys have put so much hard work in
00:20:14and you want to do everyone proud
00:20:16and it just sucks.
00:20:18I can't afford this mistake.
00:20:20We're going to have to replace it anyway
00:20:22and I just can't afford it.
00:20:26I drove four hours today to get that
00:20:28and everyone else has put so much hard work in
00:20:30and just to not deliver something finished
00:20:32just sucks.
00:20:36I'm just sad for everyone
00:20:38who's put so much work into this.
00:20:52How was your night?
00:20:54Long and tiring
00:20:56and wet.
00:20:58Did you get any sleep at all?
00:21:00I got an hour.
00:21:02We both got an hour each.
00:21:04We tag-teamed.
00:21:06The stone was a disaster
00:21:08but we got a temporary feeling.
00:21:10For something that's not meant to be a bench top
00:21:12I reckon it looks quite nice.
00:21:14Yeah.
00:21:22What have you got left to do this morning?
00:21:26Get everything out.
00:21:30How are you feeling this morning?
00:21:32Deflated.
00:21:34It's like our third or fourth space
00:21:36now in a row that we haven't completely finished.
00:21:38I'd like to be further along
00:21:40but we are where we are.
00:21:42Garden lighting's not done.
00:21:44I would have liked to have done a bit more
00:21:46with the sides of the deck
00:21:48and you can only expect to do so much
00:21:50on such a big day.
00:21:56In my eyes
00:21:58we've not even made it
00:22:00a quarter of the way.
00:22:10We pulled the pin around
00:22:12two, three o'clock I think
00:22:14and got a few hours sleep
00:22:16and got up in the morning
00:22:18and finished everything off.
00:22:20What was left to do?
00:22:22Plant the rest of the plants that we couldn't see.
00:22:24There was one plant had to go in.
00:22:28We'll win now, that's for sure.
00:22:30We're one tree short.
00:22:34We're happy with the space
00:22:36considering that we just landscaped
00:22:38300 squares of area
00:22:40and we don't even own a shovel
00:22:42or a rake.
00:22:48Do you feel like
00:22:50you can't finish anything
00:22:52without having a little argument?
00:22:54Oh, for sure.
00:23:00Why didn't you take the plastic off after I girded?
00:23:02I'm f***ing spraying mud
00:23:04and you pull them off.
00:23:06I asked you if I'm going to take them off.
00:23:08F*** you.
00:23:10It wouldn't be a room reveal
00:23:12without arguing at least five times.
00:23:14Courtney,
00:23:17get the f*** off the pavement.
00:23:19Shut up!
00:23:21I love her so much
00:23:23but yes, we argue and she frustrates
00:23:25the absolute hell out of me.
00:23:27Give me a kiss.
00:23:29Kiss.
00:23:35We mainly have to clean.
00:23:37I think we're just running on pure adrenaline.
00:23:47Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:24:09Oh.
00:24:13You don't want a brick
00:24:15at the bottom of your pool.
00:24:25We were still digging holes
00:24:27and mulching
00:24:29when it came to tools down.
00:24:35Tools down!
00:24:37Crazy.
00:24:41You did it.
00:24:43Give me a hug.
00:24:45You smelly little man.
00:24:51Oh, it's so cold.
00:24:53Well, that's cold.
00:24:55It was actually like four degrees.
00:25:13Oh, get up.
00:25:15Hey, Scotty.
00:25:17Hey, Frankie.
00:25:19Hello, hello.
00:25:21Everyone's quiet.
00:25:23Scotty.
00:25:25Scotty.
00:25:27Scotty.
00:25:29You tired?
00:25:31We're a bit sore, mate.
00:25:33You a bit quiet?
00:25:35Body's hurting.
00:25:37I tell you what,
00:25:39I reckon you all delivered
00:25:41well done
00:25:43this week. You will be judged
00:25:45out of 40 because
00:25:47our resident landscaping expert
00:25:49Dave Franklin judged alongside
00:25:51our regular judging
00:25:53panel.
00:26:11Woo!
00:26:21Tonight
00:26:23is your last chance for you to take home
00:26:25$10,000 from
00:26:27Ford. And won't that be a
00:26:29bonus come your final
00:26:31landscaping week, front facade, because
00:26:33the team that wins front facade week
00:26:35is going to take home for their personal
00:26:37driving pleasure
00:26:39Ford Mustang Mark E.
00:26:43What?
00:26:45That's right. So that means
00:26:47it's even more important
00:26:49to win tonight and put that money
00:26:51towards this.
00:26:53You ready to go?
00:26:55Maddie and Charlotte.
00:26:59Oh, I'd say this week was
00:27:01a bit of a Debbie Downer, soz.
00:27:05House 1 has the third biggest backyard
00:27:07with 448 square metres.
00:27:09We pulled
00:27:11our High Pages lever.
00:27:13Sorry, that was really scary.
00:27:15We need
00:27:17$10,000 from High Pages.
00:27:19Fantastic. We need all the hands on deck
00:27:21we can get. It was so great having
00:27:23High Pages helping us because I'm not
00:27:25sure we'd be able to do it without them.
00:27:29My personal style is more
00:27:31coastal, relaxed, a little
00:27:33bit rustic. That's nice.
00:27:35These are perfect and big.
00:27:37I want that one.
00:27:39You've got the yarn for it, definitely.
00:27:41Alright, so we've got
00:27:43a range of decking boards here. We've obviously got
00:27:45our wider and narrow boards and a bunch
00:27:47of different species. We've got like your spotted gum, your
00:27:49blackbark. My house is like super
00:27:51coastal and chill.
00:27:53So like lighter is my
00:27:55vibe.
00:27:57So with our High Pages lever,
00:27:59we also got $5,000 to put
00:28:01towards a special item
00:28:03or object, which we decided
00:28:05obviously would be our spiral staircase.
00:28:07They are finally going in.
00:28:09Yeah, it was
00:28:11perfect.
00:28:23I just love how
00:28:25versatile the space is. I love
00:28:27that we have the kids zone. I love that we have
00:28:29the external access. I love
00:28:31that we have a pool area, pizza
00:28:33oven, a fire pit. It's not just
00:28:35like one big
00:28:37space. It's like just heaps of just like
00:28:39cool pockets.
00:28:41The first thing our judges
00:28:43noticed was the impressive
00:28:45size.
00:28:47Oh my god!
00:28:51Jeez, look how big
00:28:53this is.
00:28:55It's huge.
00:28:57Welcome to Backyard and Work.
00:28:59Native to Australian backyards.
00:29:01Well, that's right.
00:29:03I don't know about that, but thanks for having me.
00:29:05Someone that can actually pronounce the plants that have been
00:29:07installed. Well, a couple of
00:29:09plants anyway. We'll see how I go today.
00:29:11The fact that they've
00:29:13already got all these existing
00:29:15paperbark trees, it just
00:29:17already provides a landscape for them.
00:29:19So we've got tea tree here, we've got
00:29:21willy pilly, we've got the bletchins there.
00:29:23So we've got a very coastal palette of trees
00:29:25here and we have a lot of lawn as well.
00:29:27And we don't get to see this a lot on the block.
00:29:29This is a really
00:29:31heavy hitting
00:29:33big swing of a backyard.
00:29:35It's week 11 on the block
00:29:37and Dave Franklin, we're seeing both
00:29:39speed and budget
00:29:41in the barbecue and surrounds.
00:29:43You had a bit of an issue with the bench top,
00:29:45didn't you? Yeah. Let's face it,
00:29:47it's not doing like a barbecue. It's not quick.
00:29:49This is quick.
00:29:51But it looks good.
00:29:53I love how
00:29:55they've kept it really simple
00:29:57in their application here.
00:29:59I can just change it when it gets a bit rough
00:30:01because it's exterior panelling
00:30:03simplicity, it looks incredible.
00:30:05It ties in beautifully with the exterior
00:30:07of the building and it looks good.
00:30:11Marty Fox knows how to throw a party
00:30:13and for him, what you've delivered
00:30:15is clearly an
00:30:17entertainer's dream.
00:30:19Having this element of being undercover makes it
00:30:21so useful.
00:30:24This is all afternoon sun.
00:30:26So in terms of
00:30:28the position on the block, being on
00:30:30this side of the resort means
00:30:32that in those afternoons when you're having those
00:30:34barbecues with family, you've got that
00:30:36beautiful light coming through. This is a
00:30:38real entertainer's dream, being
00:30:40on this side of the block. Look at this.
00:30:42Sonos here. I actually just saw
00:30:44another one under here.
00:30:46Party house.
00:30:50As they moved out onto
00:30:52the lawn today, Chana liked
00:30:54the way the design of your zones
00:30:56throughout the garden utilises
00:30:58so many curves.
00:31:00We've got this beautiful rounded
00:31:02curve at the end of the deck. We've got a little
00:31:04curve around the pizza oven
00:31:06and we've got rounded stepping stones.
00:31:08We've got a curved seat
00:31:10and it undulates and goes around
00:31:12and it snakes in and out in the garden beds
00:31:14rather than being just a straight edge.
00:31:16Marty also could see a lot of thought
00:31:18had gone into the choice of plants too.
00:31:20They've created privacy
00:31:22through seeing how these plants will grow
00:31:24over time. So with that main wing
00:31:26at the back, having that row of
00:31:28Ficus helii to just create that natural
00:31:30fence.
00:31:32It's one tree that I know.
00:31:36Let's get it right. It's Lily Pilly.
00:31:38Oh, you can't.
00:31:40It's not Ficus, mate.
00:31:44I was so confident that that was a Ficus helii.
00:31:46Hey, not far off.
00:31:48Not far off. Just stick to real estate, mate.
00:31:50Absolutely.
00:31:52That is so good for buyers because you're not
00:31:54creating segregation. You'll have these
00:31:56elements of privacy even though it's one
00:31:58big open space, which I really like.
00:32:00The judges then found yet another
00:32:02seating area off the main bedroom
00:32:04where you already
00:32:06set the scene for wine.
00:32:08Oh my goodness, can you imagine
00:32:10just sitting here
00:32:12in your main bedroom suite
00:32:14with your big slab there.
00:32:16Cup of tea in the morning.
00:32:18What an oasis. It's beautiful.
00:32:20Shona said the workmanship
00:32:22throughout this landscape is
00:32:24phenomenal for a week.
00:32:26We haven't even seen the pool.
00:32:28Like, come on.
00:32:30And the pool is all the way up there.
00:32:38Up under the pool deck.
00:32:40That stone is
00:32:42beautiful. Darren thinks
00:32:44it's very well finished off.
00:32:46The timber matches that stone
00:32:48really beautifully. It's a nice big
00:32:50plunge pool. They've got a nice
00:32:52big daybed here. It's lovely
00:32:54up here and it's really quite lovely
00:32:56to be elevated with all the canopy of the treetops.
00:32:58This is the biggest play area.
00:33:00Can we have a look at that?
00:33:07You've got a basketball court.
00:33:09This is insane.
00:33:11You've got a little
00:33:13sock-a-net. Look at this.
00:33:17Then Marty found the spiral staircase.
00:33:19From a marketing perspective,
00:33:21as we've spoken about this being
00:33:23something that could be leased out
00:33:25independently of the house,
00:33:27this is insane.
00:33:29Outdoor kitchen, outdoor lounge,
00:33:31fire pit area, main wing
00:33:33retreat and a kids basketball
00:33:35court with a swimming pool.
00:33:37How do you actually do
00:33:39all of that within one week to this
00:33:41standard? We were here last week.
00:33:43This was mud.
00:33:45Shana takes her hat
00:33:47off to you both and to
00:33:49your entire team. The girls came
00:33:51in halfway through. They've
00:33:53got this incredible build team
00:33:55and landscaping team.
00:33:57The way they must have all worked together
00:33:59to produce this
00:34:01is a machine.
00:34:03This is three backyards in one.
00:34:05Design, planning,
00:34:07finish, amenity,
00:34:09tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.
00:34:11That's it. Maddie and Charlotte.
00:34:15We feel good.
00:34:17We're very happy that we got
00:34:19such positive feedback. We're so
00:34:21happy for our landscaping team
00:34:23and our carpentry team.
00:34:25They did such a good job.
00:34:27We're just bummed that our stones didn't work.
00:34:29Okay, house two. Courtney and Granby.
00:34:35This week was moist.
00:34:37This week was wet and wild.
00:34:43Yeah, I've loved Landscape Week.
00:34:45I've worked in landscaping for the last few years.
00:34:47I did it a lot when I was younger as well.
00:34:49Always enjoyed being out in the garden.
00:34:51House two, how's it going?
00:34:53It's going well.
00:34:55It's going well.
00:34:57Always enjoyed being out in the garden.
00:34:59House two has the second smallest backyard
00:35:01coming in at 403 square metres.
00:35:03It's an entertainer's yard. It's really cool.
00:35:05The boys
00:35:07are just pouring the seat now.
00:35:09It's a bit of a risk as they're going to be forced
00:35:11to go offside at seven.
00:35:13So if the seat doesn't sort of set in time
00:35:15and they can't pull it off, we're
00:35:17not ****ed, but the seat won't be
00:35:19what we thought it was.
00:35:23It looks nice.
00:35:25I'm excited that you've chosen
00:35:27one of our ovens, Courtney. It's fantastic.
00:35:29This works perfectly with our house
00:35:31because we've got a lot of
00:35:33curves. It's like a modern Mediterranean house.
00:35:35Beautiful. Yeah, I was like, we have to have it.
00:35:39We've got an out-of-ground plungy ball
00:35:41where we are doing a travertine
00:35:43checkerboard tile.
00:35:45So we've got the imperial tilers again
00:35:47and we know they'll smash it.
00:35:49They kill it every time they're here.
00:35:51Today
00:35:53I am shopping for some outdoor
00:35:55furniture from Freedom.
00:35:57I've actually seen a really nice lounge
00:35:59package in store
00:36:01which is called the Sonata sofa package.
00:36:03It's actually really cool. It goes with that
00:36:05Mediterranean feel.
00:36:09I hope the judges take away
00:36:11the fact that we married the indoors
00:36:13with the outdoors.
00:36:15We managed to fit
00:36:17five separate entertaining areas
00:36:20in between the fire pit
00:36:22dining table, lounge setting
00:36:24on the main deck. We've got the deck
00:36:26seating and then, you know, we've got the
00:36:28master bedroom. Sort of two suites
00:36:30there. And then we still have
00:36:32a huge amount of grass for kids to run around
00:36:34and play and kick a ball
00:36:36and do whatever. So I hope they
00:36:38take that away from it. We've tried to
00:36:40make every space as user-friendly as possible.
00:36:42It was drizzling rain when our judges
00:36:44walked into your backyard
00:36:46but that took away none of the
00:36:48impact.
00:36:54Oh my god.
00:36:56Wow.
00:37:04I literally thought House One
00:37:06had hit it out of the ballpark
00:37:08and I think we've got a contender.
00:37:10How cool is this?
00:37:12First of all, barbecue of dreams.
00:37:14This is an outdoor kitchen.
00:37:16You know what? I'm looking at House One going
00:37:18oh no, they didn't do that.
00:37:20That is phenomenal.
00:37:22That is sexy.
00:37:24I want it.
00:37:26Oh, they've even
00:37:28installed inside the drawers.
00:37:30They've installed it.
00:37:32Get out of town. Seriously.
00:37:38What is better than
00:37:40having olive trees, lemon trees
00:37:42and even your bay leaf trees as well.
00:37:44Everything that you need to cook for the barbecue
00:37:46is right here, right in front of you.
00:37:48Marty thinks this outdoor space
00:37:50is the hook for your campaign.
00:37:52This indoor-outdoor flow
00:37:54this is what people pay for.
00:37:56This is what gets them emotionally connected
00:37:58to a property, envisaging themselves
00:38:00with all their family and friends
00:38:02feeling at home.
00:38:04To me, they've always known how to sell the dream.
00:38:06They then moved on to the lounge area
00:38:08and found some really beautiful
00:38:10and very comfortable Freedom furniture
00:38:12but Marty wasn't entirely
00:38:14convinced about the eight posts.
00:38:16For me, this looks
00:38:18unfinished, this little walkway
00:38:20area which is the journey from
00:38:22lounge to pool. Why is it unfinished?
00:38:24Well, I just would have thought that having slats
00:38:26over these eight posts
00:38:28with a beautiful vine creeping over
00:38:30it and hanging down would have created that
00:38:32outdoor tunnel. Like an arbour.
00:38:34Yeah, like a beautiful arbour. For me
00:38:36this is the only thing that I'm questioning
00:38:38of feeling a little bit
00:38:40unfinished. Dave Franklin
00:38:42disagrees. Marty?
00:38:44Yeah? This is garden art
00:38:46so there's nothing wrong with
00:38:48having poles with vines growing up
00:38:50and I can see what you're
00:38:52saying with the arbour but my thing would be that
00:38:54if you put the arbour over this, when
00:38:56it drops down the vines, you're not seeing the pool
00:38:58and you're not seeing the kids area. I'm with Dave on
00:39:00that one. The judges then headed down to
00:39:02your pool area
00:39:04to check out your plungy pool.
00:39:06I love how they've used the posts
00:39:08as part of the pool fence
00:39:10It's stunning.
00:39:12It's just gorgeous.
00:39:14And it's so much bigger.
00:39:16House one, obviously, that was a pool that would serve
00:39:18a two to three people max.
00:39:20We could have six, seven
00:39:22people sitting here
00:39:24having a wine in the pool,
00:39:26conversing with people on the grass.
00:39:28This is a
00:39:30different, entertaining feel isn't it?
00:39:32Also, above your head
00:39:34shower. That's awesome.
00:39:36And the compliments kept coming
00:39:38from our judges.
00:39:40There's a whole new area around there.
00:39:42That's a true private,
00:39:44private zone, isn't it?
00:39:46It's stunning. The judges all
00:39:48love the outdoor firebox.
00:39:50Where'd you get that from?
00:39:52I like that too. Shots, mate.
00:39:54Yeah, as soon as I saw it, I know I wanted it.
00:39:56It's pretty lucky
00:39:58we have that modular wall to separate these houses
00:40:00because you would be
00:40:02looking over the fences with envy.
00:40:04You'd be like, oh man,
00:40:06I want what they've got.
00:40:08The judges completed their tour of your garden
00:40:10with yet another seating
00:40:12area around the fire pit.
00:40:14And on the way
00:40:16they discovered a pizza oven
00:40:18and a smoker.
00:40:20Wow.
00:40:22So this is just value,
00:40:24value, value, value, value
00:40:26and amenity. There's so many
00:40:28different functions from
00:40:30entertaining to just
00:40:32sitting around, enjoying the fire pit,
00:40:34all the different cooking options.
00:40:36It actually has a lot of use.
00:40:38The curved seating
00:40:40and the paving around the fire pit
00:40:42has been executed perfectly
00:40:44and the colour of it is divine.
00:40:46Look at the stone, it's gorgeous.
00:40:48Look at that, it looks like marble.
00:40:50So what is this, Dave?
00:40:52Wow. This looks like a limestone to me.
00:40:54It's stunning.
00:40:56There's so much
00:40:58time and money
00:41:00and planning that's gone into this space.
00:41:02It's miraculous
00:41:04that it's this good
00:41:06in this time frame, like mind-blowing.
00:41:08The connection that this house has
00:41:10for each one of these zones
00:41:12outside, to be able to be in the
00:41:14fire pit area, converse with people
00:41:16in the kitchen, see the kids in the pool,
00:41:18this is very unique
00:41:20for an outdoor space of this size, isn't it?
00:41:22This is 35, 40 metres
00:41:24of perfection. Dave agrees.
00:41:26The finishes throughout the entire
00:41:28garden are literally perfect.
00:41:32That is it.
00:41:36I'm positive this is it.
00:41:38Every garden room
00:41:40they walked into, everything that I wanted
00:41:42them to realise and see,
00:41:44they saw.
00:41:46I'm so happy for you because, I mean,
00:41:48you love landscaping, so
00:41:50I'm just very glad that it all worked out
00:41:52and you got positive feedback.
00:41:54Yeah.
00:41:58You can tell by the noise
00:42:00that the boys are back again.
00:42:02OK, boys.
00:42:08This week was expensive.
00:42:12The body, the mind, the soul,
00:42:14and the back.
00:42:16We've got a gun team coming on,
00:42:18R&H Landscaping.
00:42:20This is going to be their first job though,
00:42:22so when we say they're guns, they're novices
00:42:24and we're going to give them a chance.
00:42:27And they're exceptionally good looking.
00:42:29House 3 has the second biggest backyard
00:42:31with a size of 488 square metres.
00:42:33I'm not sure
00:42:35how we're going to finish.
00:42:39So I'm just on Freedom's website
00:42:41and I'm looking at furniture for our backyard.
00:42:43I'm thinking that we need some
00:42:45nice side tables
00:42:47and an umbrella for the pool area.
00:42:51Come out to Art Fusion, take a look at some sculptures.
00:42:53Oh, that just oozes
00:42:55Phillip Island to me.
00:42:57I just love it.
00:42:59We both saw the same one, didn't we?
00:43:01Well, that's it.
00:43:03Ricky's finishing off the swing set this morning.
00:43:05Is that a swing set
00:43:07with old, recycled ironbark?
00:43:09Spotted gum.
00:43:11Wow, you've done a great job, boys.
00:43:13Very hard to drill through, so I took a little bit
00:43:15to get it done.
00:43:17So this is how we originally designed it.
00:43:19It was centred with a pool.
00:43:21The nice mosaic tile piece that's 7.1 metres
00:43:23by 1.4.
00:43:2529,000 tiles printed
00:43:27in early and shipped over.
00:43:29Yeah, it's an epic piece.
00:43:37We hope they
00:43:39take away the sheer amount of land
00:43:41and space of turf that you've got
00:43:43which we think a real backyard
00:43:45should have.
00:43:47Grass looks amazing, deck looks fantastic.
00:43:49Plungy pool, graphic cove,
00:43:51custom bar, it's all come together really nicely.
00:43:53I think the judges will be impressed
00:43:55that not only did R&H Landscaping
00:43:57come in late to the game, but
00:43:59I reckon it was executed well.
00:44:03Walking in, Dave Franklin immediately
00:44:05said, this is a backyard.
00:44:07Oh, wow.
00:44:09Where are we again?
00:44:11House 3. The Phillip Island Resort.
00:44:13We could be anywhere, right?
00:44:15The trees coming from the top
00:44:17of the building all the way down the fence line.
00:44:19As these lilypillies grow,
00:44:21then you're going to just
00:44:23be hemmed in with green,
00:44:25with a green canopy above you.
00:44:27This is super private
00:44:29and that is a proper family backyard.
00:44:31They did not have
00:44:33a landscaper from memory.
00:44:35What?
00:44:37They've done it themselves with Duncan.
00:44:39I saw him out there front last week
00:44:41and he said to me, he goes,
00:44:43we're going to go for all the grass as much as we can
00:44:45and have a garden that's fit for a family.
00:44:47Dave said this is not just grass.
00:44:49This is
00:44:51Lilydale turf, so they're the best
00:44:53in the business and you can see how great
00:44:55this grass is here. And you know what, this is
00:44:57a buffalo grass here, so this is tough.
00:44:59You can do cricket, footy,
00:45:01whatever you like on this grass here.
00:45:03Marty thinks this is not a bad move from a real
00:45:05estate perspective. People can choose
00:45:07to envisage their kids
00:45:09running around and if they want to
00:45:11add things later, they can.
00:45:13Shona had a look on
00:45:15her face.
00:45:17Here we go.
00:45:19She just wasn't feeling it the same way
00:45:21as the other judges. She wanted more.
00:45:23I've just come from two
00:45:25environments that had beautiful
00:45:27shapes to them and they
00:45:29felt different
00:45:31and it makes sense now that the guys did it.
00:45:33So we'll do a straight line, we'll do some
00:45:35cortine steel and we'll chuck everything on the sides.
00:45:37That's sort of what it feels for me.
00:45:39I agree, it could do with some more
00:45:41layers, okay.
00:45:43He might just sell the place because he can do
00:45:45whatever you like with this garden.
00:45:47Darren Palmer thinks if you were minimising
00:45:49the landscaping to concentrate
00:45:51on the carpentry, then you should
00:45:53have probably finished the deck.
00:45:57I can see the underside of
00:45:59the battens underneath this deck.
00:46:01I can see the pedestals.
00:46:03That's...
00:46:05If you're going to focus on one thing,
00:46:07the carpentry should have been great.
00:46:09But Shona had to start apologising to you
00:46:11when she turned the corner.
00:46:17Oh my god!
00:46:19Like what on earth?
00:46:21I apologise.
00:46:23I apologise for what I
00:46:25said around the corner.
00:46:27This is insane.
00:46:29We've got swing set,
00:46:31we've got sculpture, we now
00:46:33have all the curves. That makes sense
00:46:35it's a football pitch. It makes sense.
00:46:37This is crazy.
00:46:39That's a very cool swing set isn't it?
00:46:41That's like a 200 or 250 by 250
00:46:43timber. There's no way that this is
00:46:45going to be shaking by looking at it.
00:46:47You can jump on that.
00:46:49A guy of my size could get on there for sure.
00:46:51They also realised you delivered the largest
00:46:53pool area they had seen today.
00:46:55Big thumbs up to the amazing
00:46:57plungy pools.
00:46:59The biggest pool is a massive selling feature.
00:47:01It separates them from the others that
00:47:03we've seen. It is the fun house.
00:47:05Look, we've got beach balls, we've got lilos.
00:47:07The Graphico tiles are certainly
00:47:09an interesting addition. That Graphico is
00:47:11really on theme from inside the house with the wallpapers
00:47:13and they have that
00:47:15appeal of pulling in the palms
00:47:17and everything from outside, inside
00:47:19and they've reflected that here as well.
00:47:21It's consistent with the inside of the house in that
00:47:23it's fun, it's planned really beautifully
00:47:25for holiday living.
00:47:27I think it does what it's supposed to do just as well
00:47:29as the inside of the house does.
00:47:31It's not as chic,
00:47:33but it's fun.
00:47:35I think that's the thing, it ticks all the boxes
00:47:37of what a holiday house should be doing.
00:47:39Like, you know, the kids will come in and go
00:47:41we can kick the footy, we can play cricket,
00:47:43we can go on the swings, we've got beautiful
00:47:45art, we've got the pool, you can
00:47:47access it straight off the living area
00:47:49from the hallway. It ticks
00:47:51so many great boxes. It just
00:47:53doesn't have the finesse and the finishings.
00:47:55If they had a professional landscaper, they
00:47:57would have sold the dream wall.
00:47:59That's it boys, the Fun Factory
00:48:01is nearly complete.
00:48:03Thanks mate.
00:48:05We're really happy with the space
00:48:07but it's super hard to compete
00:48:09with guys that have been working on their yards for
00:48:11months and months and months so
00:48:13I think R&H landscaping could be
00:48:15in trouble.
00:48:25Okay, house 4, Colin Pratt.
00:48:28Here was
00:48:32me thinking that landscaping
00:48:34was going to be fun. House 4 has the
00:48:36smallest backyard, coming in at
00:48:38378 square metres.
00:48:42Is anyone opposed
00:48:44to us putting a gate into the tennis court?
00:48:46It's right there.
00:48:48I think a lot of people were a bit shocked
00:48:50that I even suggested it.
00:48:52I have no problem with it.
00:48:54Nope.
00:48:56Freedom
00:48:58was wonderful.
00:49:00This is outdoor? They're all outdoor.
00:49:02I think that Freedom have been
00:49:04like, we have a girl that loves
00:49:06black, we need more black.
00:49:08There were black cushions, black vases.
00:49:10I'm glad they've waited till week 10. Yeah.
00:49:14I don't know how it's
00:49:16going, I don't think good.
00:49:18Everyone seems very stressed,
00:49:20very frazzled.
00:49:22We were under the impression that
00:49:24all our plans were sorted and
00:49:26Colin spoke to a couple of them and said, yeah look, Clay has spoken to us
00:49:28but he hasn't actually placed
00:49:30the orders.
00:49:34Not that I've seen, no.
00:49:40Our backyard goes from
00:49:42around the pool to
00:49:44the other end of the building.
00:49:46The whole plan has been really low maintenance
00:49:48for it to be like more of a holiday
00:49:50home. It would have been nice to
00:49:52have had the extra cash to have
00:49:54the bigger deck but
00:49:56we are trying to
00:49:58spread it.
00:50:00Tough week, Colin, Brad.
00:50:02So I can imagine how you're feeling
00:50:04this evening because you had a
00:50:06few dramas throughout the week, didn't you?
00:50:08First impressions were great.
00:50:12That's a big pool. It's a great size pool.
00:50:14That's as big as the boys pool,
00:50:16yeah? Yeah, it looks like it.
00:50:18The major selling point isn't having
00:50:20this pool area off that
00:50:22living space, like right there.
00:50:24However,
00:50:26it's a bit of a wasted opportunity given
00:50:28that we've got a small
00:50:30area there and the rest of it's kind of
00:50:32no offence
00:50:34but it's just landscaping.
00:50:36I was going to say it just is giving me
00:50:38absolutely nothing.
00:50:40I've got a runway
00:50:42of a boardwalk through here
00:50:44and I've got another pathway on the side there
00:50:46but I've got all this wasted space around here
00:50:48as well at the same time.
00:50:50It might be a budget thing but there's no real
00:50:52big trees here that can have a canopy
00:50:54over it and this has got enough area around
00:50:56to put trees with canopies around
00:50:58the pool. And while he liked the
00:51:00darkness of the pool, he wasn't a
00:51:02fan of the tiles.
00:51:04I don't love fake tiles.
00:51:06That, to me, is killing every
00:51:08other stonemason in Australia
00:51:10right now looking at that, okay?
00:51:12Look, I'm sure it'd look great elsewhere
00:51:14but just on the pool here
00:51:16it's just too strong a pattern for me.
00:51:18It really just feels like a bit of a water feature
00:51:20even though it's such a big pool.
00:51:22I question
00:51:24the amount of decking, the amount of sitting
00:51:26the amount of amenity that's in this
00:51:28space. You have lots of
00:51:30walkways, lots of different pipes
00:51:32and different materials
00:51:34but not a lot of function, not a lot
00:51:36of enjoyable space.
00:51:38Basically increase the size
00:51:40of the deck
00:51:42which I'm assuming you need more money, more
00:51:44time, more labour.
00:51:46So that was probably impossible.
00:51:48Leaving the pool area
00:51:50it was clear to everyone that a lot of
00:51:52time and effort had gone into the fire
00:51:54pit seat. So well done on that.
00:51:56But they thought the ground
00:51:58around it is not executed as well
00:52:00as House 2.
00:52:02It needed
00:52:04some more pavers.
00:52:06Because you're not walking over here in bare feet.
00:52:08So you're not walking on all this.
00:52:10So it's not that inviting.
00:52:12The idea is there, it just hasn't been finished off properly.
00:52:14Remember to main bedroom suite
00:52:16is right there. Those doors look
00:52:18out to here and they're going to look straight
00:52:20into the pool equipment
00:52:22which I know there's probably a surround
00:52:24planned for that but we're not seeing it.
00:52:26What we're seeing is that you're going to
00:52:28see the pool equipment from the main bedroom.
00:52:30And we need to judge what we're seeing
00:52:32and what we're seeing is just a really
00:52:34poorly planned, uninviting
00:52:36space.
00:52:38Clearly some time management issues around
00:52:40the rest of the garden too.
00:52:42More unfinished steps on the other side
00:52:44of the main bedroom.
00:52:46There's nothing about this that says
00:52:48come and hang in my backyard.
00:52:50Look how excited we got in House 1
00:52:52and 2 about all those different spaces
00:52:54to sit and talk and eat
00:52:56and share memories and all those
00:52:58amazing aspects of having a holiday home.
00:53:00And then you walk into this house
00:53:02and they've just thought, you know what?
00:53:04Let's not think of emotion. Let's not think of marketing.
00:53:06Let's not think of the buyer.
00:53:08Because that's how it feels. They've just plonked
00:53:10things in without any consideration
00:53:12as to what people throw
00:53:14their hands up for come auction day.
00:53:18You know what? This house is still amazing.
00:53:20It wouldn't put me off buying this house.
00:53:22I think
00:53:24there's some stuff I want to do and change and fix
00:53:26but it wouldn't put me off.
00:53:28It's a beautiful looking house from the outside.
00:53:30It actually has
00:53:32one of the two biggest pools on the block.
00:53:34It has lots of room around it
00:53:36and it's got access to the tennis court.
00:53:38I think it's still
00:53:40going to be really appealing.
00:53:42It's not as lifestyle focused as 1 and 2.
00:53:44It's not as fun as 3.
00:53:46But it's still a bloody great house.
00:53:48That's it, Carly. I've read some tough comments there.
00:53:50Some strong positives.
00:53:52Also, only one week
00:53:54to go.
00:53:58Yeah, it was
00:54:00a tough week.
00:54:02And yeah, there's definitely some things
00:54:05that we would have liked to have had finished
00:54:07but I think
00:54:09there should have been maybe some earlier conversations
00:54:11about that it was not going to be able
00:54:13to be achieved.
00:54:15It's just
00:54:17it is what it is.
00:54:31Okay, House 5.
00:54:33Can you hear me?
00:54:37This week was organised chaos.
00:54:43House 5 has the largest backyard
00:54:45at a whopping 552 square metres.
00:54:49I'm off to Cambridge.
00:54:51Oh my
00:54:53goodness.
00:54:55I definitely like grey.
00:54:57Yep.
00:54:59And the blue.
00:55:01I'm doing the landscaping
00:55:03for House 5. I need to get lots of things.
00:55:05Can I get 8 of those please?
00:55:074 of those lounges.
00:55:092 of those, 2 of those
00:55:11and 1 of those.
00:55:13I just love spending other people's money.
00:55:17How big is this? What's this like?
00:55:199 by 6. They're very popular
00:55:21these basketball courts.
00:55:23The kids still want to be able to shoot properly
00:55:25from a fair line and a 3 point line.
00:55:27So anything underneath that, they don't really like it.
00:55:31So I'm here today to show you about the Lagrana
00:55:33automation switches. The fun side of it
00:55:35you can create like a party scene.
00:55:37You can use the app on the phone
00:55:39and the lights that you want to come on will come on
00:55:41the music that you want to come on will come on.
00:55:43Oh that's awesome.
00:55:45So we've organised
00:55:47your automation. You can just go
00:55:49onto the app and press that button
00:55:51and it will work for you. Okay.
00:55:53Oh!
00:55:55How good's that?
00:55:57It changes colour.
00:56:01I've got to get home, there's a garden
00:56:03to tend. All the fruits on the ground
00:56:05the birds have all moved
00:56:07back into line. I absolutely love what
00:56:09we see in our backyard.
00:56:11I think you can picture kids running
00:56:13around the pool, having a swim
00:56:15parents sitting back, being able
00:56:17to watch them. I think it
00:56:19all ties in really well together.
00:56:23Walking into your backyard
00:56:25the faces of the judges were shocked
00:56:27shocked
00:56:29in a good way.
00:56:33Wow, that's dramatic.
00:56:35Look at the tiling.
00:56:37That is stunning. Wow.
00:56:39Another big pool.
00:56:41Yeah. And I love this
00:56:43mosaic tiling around it. As soon as you walk in
00:56:45you're drawn to it.
00:56:47A dust screen resort.
00:56:49Even though it's just a small deck with two chairs
00:56:51you've got all the grass around there
00:56:53that you could lay on as well and be
00:56:55part of the pool environment.
00:56:57They all love the piers wrapped in rope
00:56:59it's very Phillip Island. It makes you
00:57:01feel coastal. It's like
00:57:03they've picked up a piece of Phillip Island and they've put it
00:57:05here in the landscaping for us. That's
00:57:07really effective. Exactly.
00:57:09Shona thinks the colour palette is excellent
00:57:11and the furniture around the pool is
00:57:13superb. Camerage I presume.
00:57:15Yes. You've got the
00:57:17blue stone, you've got the travertine, then you have
00:57:19this beautiful bluey gunmetal
00:57:21for the pool and then you have green
00:57:23a lot of different textures and colours
00:57:25it's absolutely
00:57:27stunning. See I was nervous for these guys because
00:57:29this is the only space that's not
00:57:31directly off the living so this
00:57:33really has to be hit out of the ballpark.
00:57:35I think there's a whole other half over the other side and down
00:57:37here.
00:57:39This is
00:57:41quite beautiful.
00:57:45Dave loved the boats
00:57:47and discovered it was full of rum.
00:57:49But isn't this cool?
00:57:51So they've obviously grabbed it from
00:57:53Facebook market share or hopefully somewhere local
00:57:55around here, cut this up
00:57:57put this here as a bar
00:57:59lots of rum so you feel like a pirate
00:58:01already.
00:58:03But with that with the pube holes
00:58:05it is coming back to Phillip Island.
00:58:07A really nice touch
00:58:09perfect for a holiday home.
00:58:11You were criticised heavily
00:58:13in the past few weeks for your layout
00:58:15and design to have a TV
00:58:17room leading onto this space.
00:58:21This has zero
00:58:23connection to
00:58:25lifestyle outside.
00:58:27Shouldn't this be a place that is
00:58:29pool friendly? They could have
00:58:31done something interesting here
00:58:33with a tiled space that flowed out to the
00:58:35outdoors because of this big
00:58:37sliding door. It could have actually read
00:58:39as an indoor outdoor alfresco space
00:58:41that continued onto the outdoors.
00:58:43And while this garden is amazing
00:58:45and all the judges thought so
00:58:47that came up again today.
00:58:49Did they get it wrong or did they get it right now?
00:58:51Looking at the space Marty
00:58:53thinks the TV room needs
00:58:55a fridge etc to service the
00:58:57dining area. The big issue that the
00:58:59buyer will actually face when inspecting
00:59:01is they see a big dining table
00:59:03and they think to themselves
00:59:05great dinner parties or entertaining
00:59:07but it is such a long walk
00:59:09from the kitchen
00:59:11that this is actually quite a difficult place
00:59:13to entertain people over dinner.
00:59:15Where's the barbie? There is no barbie here.
00:59:17It's a smoke up. Did you win the wolf
00:59:19barbeque? Yes we did.
00:59:21Where is the wolf barbeque going?
00:59:23On the balcony. On the balcony
00:59:25upstairs? Yes.
00:59:27This is where the wolf barbeque
00:59:29should have been they said.
00:59:31This is backyard week on the block
00:59:33you need to have a barbeque.
00:59:35Un-Australian. It is un-Australian.
00:59:37Well when you're playing
00:59:39in the pool and the kids
00:59:41just to have a sausage on bread is one of the
00:59:43easiest things for them. You don't want to go
00:59:45running upstairs the whole time.
00:59:47If you're going to have a smoker here
00:59:49and you're going to have cold drinks
00:59:51and things like that you need a fridge
00:59:53and you need a sink. So to really function
00:59:55as a dining space you need to make
00:59:57more kitchenette amenities
00:59:59in the laundry or the TV room
01:00:01or an outdoor kitchen like
01:00:03house twos right here
01:00:05in this space.
01:00:07Meandering down the path towards the basketball court
01:00:11Oh and another court
01:00:13They found a bigger court
01:00:15than house one with a three point
01:00:17line.
01:00:19This is cool. So this is the block
01:00:212024 house five
01:00:23Yeah this is cool. And the judges
01:00:25also found a fire pit with a dry stone
01:00:27wall. Dave's favourite
01:00:29fire pit area he's seen today.
01:00:31I love this I think this is
01:00:33one of my favourite parts of the whole job
01:00:35here. It is that hard doing stuff like that.
01:00:39Darren thinks what this garden and this house
01:00:41delivers on is privacy.
01:00:43Look around
01:00:45look at what we're looking at. It's private.
01:00:47Exactly. We're seeing lots of trees and lots
01:00:49of sky. We don't have
01:00:51an immediate neighbour here. We don't have an immediate neighbour there.
01:00:53It's privacy.
01:00:55It's a cracker.
01:00:59This week the judges saw five backyards
01:01:01that are all bigger than most of the gardens
01:01:03ever delivered
01:01:05on the block. They think it's a
01:01:07real achievement for all of you
01:01:09and I mean all of you today.
01:01:11The hardest thing is
01:01:13that we've got to pick a winner and it's really not
01:01:15that easy today. Not today. It really isn't.
01:01:17The standard, as much
01:01:19as we've been a bit negative on something, the standard
01:01:21is so damn high.
01:01:23Brilliant effort. Well done everybody.
01:01:25Give yourselves all a round of applause.
01:01:27Okay let's get the scores.
01:01:35Okay. Here we go.
01:01:39I'm a bit nervous.
01:01:41Dave Frank first.
01:01:43Maddie and Charlotte.
01:01:45So we've got a very coastal palette
01:01:47of trees here and we have a lot of
01:01:49lawn as well.
01:01:55Courtney and Karumpy.
01:01:57This is garden art.
01:02:03Hey.
01:02:05Ricky and Hayden.
01:02:08So more layers but it might just sell
01:02:10the place because you can do whatever you like
01:02:12with this garden.
01:02:18Colin and Brad.
01:02:20I've got all this wasted space around here.
01:02:22I'm sorry, it's just giving me absolutely
01:02:24nothing.
01:02:30Christian and Mimi.
01:02:32As soon as you walk in, you're drawn to it.
01:02:34It does scream resort to me.
01:02:38Next results, Darren
01:02:40and Maddie.
01:02:42Darren first.
01:02:44Maddie and Charlotte.
01:02:46Design, planning, finish,
01:02:48amenity, tick,
01:02:50tick, tick, tick, tick.
01:02:54Courtney and Karumpy.
01:02:56It's miraculous that
01:02:58it's this good in this time frame.
01:03:00Like, mind-blowing.
01:03:02Oh!
01:03:08Sorry, that was an overreaction.
01:03:10I love that reaction.
01:03:14Ricky and Hayden.
01:03:16It's consistent with the inside of the house.
01:03:18It's actually really appropriate for family living.
01:03:20It's not chic.
01:03:22It's fun.
01:03:26Colin and Brad.
01:03:28I question the amount of decking,
01:03:30the amount of sitting, the amount of amenity
01:03:32that's in this space.
01:03:38And Christian and Mimi.
01:03:40It's like they've picked up a piece of Phillip Island
01:03:42and they've put it here in the landscaping
01:03:44for us. That's really effective.
01:03:48Okay, Marty.
01:03:50Maddie and Charlotte.
01:03:52This is clearly
01:03:54an entertainer's dream.
01:04:00Courtney and Karumpy.
01:04:02This indoor-outdoor flow,
01:04:04this is what people pay for.
01:04:06This is what gets them emotionally connected to a property.
01:04:13Ricky and Hayden.
01:04:15That's the quintessential
01:04:17Aussie back garden.
01:04:23Carly and Brad.
01:04:25What we're seeing is just a really
01:04:27poorly planned, uninviting
01:04:29space.
01:04:35Christian and Mimi.
01:04:37Oh, look at the tiling.
01:04:39That is stunning.
01:04:46Okay, I'll see you in a bit.
01:04:48Shade of Blaze.
01:04:50Maddie and Charlotte.
01:04:52What an oasis.
01:04:54It's beautiful.
01:04:56Courtney and Karumpy.
01:04:58They've always known how to sell the dream.
01:05:00Ricky and Hayden.
01:05:02It ticks so many boxes.
01:05:04It just doesn't have the finesse and the finishings.
01:05:06Carly and Brad.
01:05:08There's nothing about this that says
01:05:10come and hang in my backyard.
01:05:12And Christian
01:05:14and Mimi.
01:05:16The choice of materials is stunning.
01:05:18Okay, totals.
01:05:24Okay.
01:05:26The winner of week 11
01:05:28on the Block Backyard Week
01:05:30and taking home $10,000 from
01:05:32Ford is
01:05:38It's Courtney and Karumpy.
01:05:50I cannot believe it.
01:05:52I can't believe it.
01:05:54It is a massive spring in my step now.
01:05:56We could totally end this competition happy
01:05:58regardless of what happens at auction.
01:06:00We got our 10.
01:06:02We're very happy with that.
01:06:04We got two 10s.
01:06:06If we get a quarter of this feeling on auction night, it'll be great.
01:06:08Courtney and Grant scored a massive
01:06:1039 out of 40 with 10s
01:06:12from both Darren and Shayna.
01:06:14The girls came runner up with 37 points
01:06:16while Christian and Mimi
01:06:18took out third place with 35.
01:06:20Rikki and Hayden's solo landscaping
01:06:22efforts netted them fourth place
01:06:24with 32.
01:06:26And Colleen and Brad came a distant last
01:06:28with just 27 points.
01:06:30Congratulations
01:06:32Courtney and Karumpy. You're not grumpy tonight, champ.
01:06:34No way.
01:06:36$10,000 from Ford
01:06:38and another $20,000 from Arnas
01:06:40for two 10s. $30,000
01:06:42night. Well done.
01:06:44Wow. Congratulations.
01:06:46And guess what? Tomorrow night
01:06:48we're heading overseas.
01:06:50What?
01:06:52That's right.
01:06:54You're getting on the ferry down here.
01:06:56You're heading over to the
01:06:58Mornington Peninsula.
01:07:00And we're going to head out to the Flinders Hotel
01:07:02and have a fantastic night with some VIP guests
01:07:04and I guarantee you'll have lots
01:07:06and lots of laughs. It's going to be a lot of fun.
01:07:08See you tomorrow night.
01:07:10Well done everybody. It's been a tough week.
01:07:12Wet, cold. You did a great job.
01:07:14One week to go. See you later. Good night.
01:07:18Call your mum.
01:07:20Call your mum.
01:07:24We came first. We got two 10s
01:07:26and got $39,000 out of $40,000.
01:07:28We got $30,000.
01:07:30You got $30,000.
01:07:32We won $30,000 tonight.
01:07:34I'm very proud of both of you.
01:07:38Very, very proud.
01:07:40You guys going to get through this week together?
01:07:42I think this week
01:07:44is definitely going to test
01:07:46test everything we've got.
01:07:52Coming up on the block.
01:07:54The end begins.
01:07:56And it's all coming to an end.
01:07:58I don't particularly like that.
01:08:00As our teams tackle their final space.
01:08:02Front gardens and facades.
01:08:06This is so much to do.
01:08:08It's insane.
01:08:10This is it for the houses.
01:08:12This is it.
01:08:14And expensive.
01:08:16And inviting.
01:08:18And in just over a week's time
01:08:20it's a block reunion.
01:08:22Come on out, troops!
01:08:24As our all-stars come together
01:08:26to help finish the clubhouse
01:08:28and give one of our teams
01:08:30a chance to get $50,000 off their reserve.
01:08:32We've got a lot to do.
01:08:34There's a lot to do.
01:08:36It's good to be back.
01:08:38Back with a bang.
01:08:40Another beautiful day in paradise.
01:08:42And it's the big day
01:08:44as our island resorts go under the hammer.
01:08:48But will all couples make it to the auction?
01:08:50How married to things like him
01:08:52is beyond me. I deserve so much better.
01:08:54How little I mean to him
01:08:56is really sad.
01:08:58I just want to go home.
01:09:02Can we have a break?
01:09:05She's gone.
01:09:07So you think she's literally
01:09:09just jumped on a plane home?
01:09:11Yeah.
