00:00Abang Johari Openg has shot down former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's call for Sarawak

00:07to help less developed states since it has achieved high income status.

00:12Describing Mahathir's call as unreasonable, the Sarawak Premier said the state must first

00:17focus on boosting the income of its households, particularly in rural areas.

00:22Abang Johari also said Sarawak holds to the principle that charity begins at home, Meritaharian

00:28reported.

00:30He said Sarawak is not the federal government and therefore is not responsible to help other

00:34states.

00:35Instead, he suggested that Mahathir urge the federal government to focus on developing

00:40the poorer states.

00:42Abang Johari said Putrajaya received the lion's share of oil and gas revenue, while Sarawak

00:47only received state sales tax on petroleum products from Petronas.

00:53He also said Sarawak's high income status is the result of prudent economic management,

00:57adding that it is up to other states to manage their economies effectively and work harder.
