Police have recovered more than RM7mil of the RM20mil ransom that was paid to a group of kidnappers of a Johor businessman.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the money, in various currencies, was recovered following the arrest of 14 suspects involved in the Oct 13 incident.

00:00So what we want to share today is the success of a case that happened on the 13th of October last year.
00:13The victim was a Chinese man who tried to commit suicide.
00:21We have arrested 14 people so far and the investigation is still ongoing.
00:29Among these 14 people, we managed to identify some of the roles played by these 14 people.
00:40One of the roles was in the context of planning and the kidnapping.
00:49Another group was given the role of unloading the cases.
00:56Another group that is still being investigated is the Cryptocurrency group.
01:03These are the people in charge of money laundering.
01:09Among these 14 people, the youngest was arrested at the age of 23 and the oldest was arrested at the age of 58.
01:19This group included 11 of our citizens, 10 men and 1 woman,
01:253 citizens of Vietnam, 2 men and 1 woman.
01:31So, Alhamdulillah, we were able to recover some of the money from the money laundering
01:48and we were able to recover a total of RM7.2 million.
