A slow moving weather pattern bringing benign conditions for many, however, for north and northwest Scotland conditions are becoming increasingly unsettled throughout the day. Low cloud and outbreaks of persistent rain over Shetland and northwest of Scotland, heavy at times, especially into the evening. Strong winds continue, gale force at times for Shetland. Elsewhere, remaining fog continues to slowly lift, but skies remaining largely overcast, with some breaks in the cloud in the southwest of England and Wales, as well as eastern Scotland and northeast England. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 31/10/24. 00:00Hi there. We are currently in a period of benign and slow-moving weather patterns. One
00:06exception will be the north and north-west of Scotland where it's turning more unsettled
00:11through the rest of the day. Outbreaks of rain, persistent rain into Shetland, that
00:16will be heavy at times, especially later on, and increasingly damp for the north-west of
00:21Scotland with a lot of low cloud and a strong wind. Gales for Shetland, 50 mph wind gusts
00:27for the far north. Otherwise, for much of the country, it's a grey day. We started with
00:31fog in eastern parts in particular. That will slowly lift, but it's going to stay relatively
00:37overcast for the vast majority. Some cloud breaks towards the south-west perhaps, parts
00:41of Wales. More reliably, eastern Scotland and north-east England as the cloud breaks
00:46up over higher ground to the west. The wind bouncing over the hills though, so a gusty
00:51wind there for the north-east. And then into the evening, well, rain comes south, but for
00:57much of the country, it's dry if you're heading out trick-or-treating with little ones. It's
01:01good to be mild as well overnight, 11 or 12 Celsius the low in the south. I think a little
01:08lower than that if we do get some clear spells, especially towards the south-west, for example
01:13a few mist patches first thing. But it's going to be much more unsettled as we begin Friday
01:18for the far north. And the band of rain by this stage is slowly pushing south into central
01:23Scotland, weakening, leaving brighter skies for the northern isles, albeit with a few
01:28showers and a colder feel. Further south, any mist and fog lifting and it's another
01:34largely grey day with a sheet of clouds sticking around and just a few random cloud breaks
01:39here and there. 13, 14 Celsius in the south, into the single figures there for the far
01:45north, so a colder feel as northerly winds arrive. But those northerlies don't last long.
01:49We've got higher pressure building back in from the south-west and that's going to help
01:54fizzle out the front as it pushes south into central Scotland. A damp day, or a damp end
02:01to the day at least for Edinburgh, for the south-east of Scotland. But that front, well
02:06it disappears then as higher pressure builds in on top of it, that higher pressure allowing
02:11milder air to push north once again into the weekend. But, although it stays dry, it's
02:17going to stay largely cloudy once again for the vast majority. Bye bye.
