A grey and cloudy start for many, with some mist and fog patches, particularly across southern regions. High pressure bringing benign conditions throughout the day for much of southern England. However, low pressure to the north, brings strong and gusty winds to much of northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Into the afternoon, areas of drizzle for Northern Ireland. As well as persistent rain and drizzle for western Scotland and the Scottish Isles, with gale force winds at times in coastal regions. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 31/10/24. 00:00Good morning and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Another grey and
00:04cloudy start for much of the UK. A few mist and fog patches, particularly across the south.
00:08That's thanks to this area of high pressure giving quite benign conditions across the
00:12south. But this low, moving eastwinds further north gives a squeeze on those isobars. So
00:17the northern half of the country is seeing particularly strong winds and pretty gusty
00:20through Thursday and into the start of Friday. Back to this morning though, so plenty of
00:25cloud around, particularly across the southern half of the UK. There will be a few clear
00:29spells and some mist and fog patches, but generally pretty calm conditions across the
00:33southern half of the UK. Light winds further north across the Pennines. The winds start
00:37to increase from the west and pretty gusty over high ground as well. Northern Ireland
00:41starting to see some drizzle moving in and the northwest of Scotland seeing a fairly
00:45damp day as well. Winds particularly strong here, especially on the coast, where there
00:49could be some gales at times through the late half of Thursday.
00:54Through the day, though, we've got temperatures fairly mild for the time of year. Thirteen
00:57to sixteen degrees. Best of the temperature will be down towards the southern half of
01:01the UK in some of those bright spells. Now, heading through this evening is Halloween.
01:06So some of you may be out trick or treating. So what will it be like for you? Western Scotland,
01:11unfortunately, quite grey and quite wet with those blustery winds. Further south, some
01:15drizzle for the western half of Northern Ireland. Still quite breezy here. Lots of cloud around,
01:20but drier for parts of northern England, Wales and the southern half of England. Plenty of
01:24dry conditions around and fairly light winds through the rest of the evening and those
01:29light winds continue across the south and more mist and fog patches may form in those
01:33clear spells, but staying fairly cloudy across much of the rest of the UK with this cold
01:37front sinking south into the northern half of Scotland into the early hours of Friday.
01:43So with this cold front is going to be introducing some cooler air. So notice that across parts
01:47of Shetland, temperatures down into single figures and it'll be feeling noticeably cooler.
01:51Some of those showers could turn a touch wintry later in the day underneath the cloud
01:55and with the wind temperatures remaining mild across much of Scotland. And there will be
01:59a few pockets of cooler temperatures further south. These are largely indicative of towns
02:04and cities, but in some clearer spells, you could get down into four or five degrees and
02:09southern parts as well. So heading through Friday, still a fairly largely cloudy and
02:14calm day across much of the UK. But this cold front will steadily sink south as we head
02:19through Friday. Those winds steadily turning northerly and we may get some wintry showers,
02:24particularly over parts of Shetland. That rain band begins to weaken as it sinks southwards
02:29and we do start to see some drizzly rain moving into parts of north east England later on
02:33as well. Temperatures to the north is rainbound. There will be some brighter spells here, but
02:37temperatures will be much cooler. So nine or ten degrees for the northern half of Scotland.
02:42Mild air continuing to hold on to the southern half of that frontal system. But temperatures
02:46a touchdown on the previous day. So at best 14 or 15 across the southern half of England.
02:53So heading through the rest of Friday, that area of rain will slowly sink south, but high
02:57pressure is likely to stay in force for the coming next week. So if you want to check
03:02out any more on that, please do have a look. Our YouTube channel.
