00:00The ritual called Dibdibon for the Yumao is still alive in the Ifugao.
00:06Let's find out what's the story of Florida Robles of PIA Cordillera.
00:14Different types of ritual are performed as a way of honoring and respecting the Yumao in Ifugao.
00:21Dibdibon is one of them, or the offering of the bones of the Yumao to be dried.
00:27According to the Yumao priest, Pablo Quimayo,
00:30when the bones are cleaned and dried, they will be wrapped in ethnic attire.
00:35Then, they will be placed in a corner to be ventilated while the Yumao is being performed
00:42before being taken to their final resting place in Bandang Hapon.
00:46The family of a pig is also involved in the ritual and worship.
00:51Explained by Quimayo, this ritual is done so that the Yumao will remain silent
00:55and will not hurt their loved ones.
00:58It is also dedicated to the diseases that affect the members of the family
01:03that cannot be treated in hospitals.
01:05The illness will not be cured unless we perform what we call the ritual culture
01:12of the Ifugao customs and traditions.
01:17This tradition will be passed down to each generation
01:20with the message that it is only right to give respect and care
01:25to our loved ones who have already passed away.
01:28The authorities are working hard to preserve these cultures
01:34that are in need of a new era.
01:36We do not really preserve, but we integrate, we inculturate.
01:40Our culture is being integrated in our faith
01:44because there are many bearing the good points of it.
01:50Whatever the culture and tradition of the communities,
01:54it is only right to honor it because it is one of the symbols of their recognition.
02:00From PIA Cordillera, Lorna Robles for Balitang Pambansa.
