00:16PTV's Mela Lesmores, Lesmoras tells us more.
00:21The Philippine flag at the House of Representatives flew at half-mast today
00:26in observance of the Day of National Mourning declared by President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr.
00:31in solidarity with the bereaved families and loved ones of those who perished due to severe tropical storm Christine.
00:38During his speech in today's resumption of session, House Speaker Martin Romualdez called on Filipinos
00:44to offer love and prayers to those who tragically died due to the catastrophe and likewise honor them.
00:50We mourn with their families, loved ones and communities who bear the weight of this tragic loss.
00:58And we share in this moment of profound grief.
01:03Let us find the strength in our unity and offer comfort and support to those who have lost so much.
01:11May our heartfelt prayers and unwavering solidarity serve as a source of hope and healing in this time of immense sorrow.
01:21During the adjournment, several members of the lower house used the opportunity to help those affected by the typhoon instead of taking a break.
01:29For that, Speaker Romualdez expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation not only to his colleagues
01:35but also to all the responders, relief workers and other volunteers who joined hands in the spirit of Bayanihan.
01:42Many of you did not hesitate to set aside what should have been a period of rest.
01:47You mobilized, responded and reached out to those in need, showing our countrymen what it truly means to serve.
01:55House Deputy Majority Leader Jude Asidu said the House will continue taking vital measures to assist typhoon victims
02:02not only by providing relief or financial aid, but also by formulating important legislation.
02:09Even if we cannot bring back the lives of those who were lost, I hope that with the help that we are able to send,
02:17we can accompany the families of those who were left behind in what we know is a difficult time in their lives.
02:23Even in the proposed national budget for next year, the House assures adequate allocation for disaster response before ratification.
02:31First of all, of course, we will look at the budget of Calabidad because we all know that what happened to us last month was almost terrible.
02:41We were almost hit by a typhoon, not only in Region 5 but also in Calabarzon. That is what we will focus on now.
02:50According to Speaker Romualdez, as part of enhanced government response to disasters,
02:55President Marquez Jr. is all set to sign the proposed Ligtas-Pinoy Centers Act soon.
03:00This will establish a network of permanent, storm-resilient evacuation centers nationwide,
03:06especially in highways and disaster-prone areas.
