00:00As the Commission on Elections or COMELEC is concerned,
00:02the first ever parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region
00:07in Muslim in Danau will push through as planned.
00:10That is, unless there will be a legal impediment
00:13that will prevent the conduct of the political exercise.
00:16How? Luisa Erispe explains in this report.
00:22The Commission on Elections, to their ground,
00:24that the first parliamentary elections in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region
00:28for Muslim in Danau or BARMM will continue as scheduled
00:32despite a proposed bill filed in the Senate to suspend it.
00:35According to COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia,
00:38the proposed bill is not enough to pause or halt the elections indefinitely
00:42unless the proposed piece of legislation is enacted into law.
00:47We want to show that COMELEC will not be affected
00:50by those that could be filed like that
00:52because, again, as long as there is no law,
00:54the Commission on Elections is prepared.
00:56We will finish the filing of the candidacy from November 4 to 9.
01:01Therefore, to those who are agam-agam,
01:03our fellow countrymen,
01:06your Commission is right here.
01:08And therefore, we are willing and able
01:10and we will be accepting all your certificates of candidacy.
01:13To show the Commission's commitment to carry on with the parliamentary elections,
01:17the COMELEC went to Cotabato City in Maguindanao del Norte
01:20for the start of the COC and CONCAN filing today.
01:23COMELEC reported almost all their BARM district offices
01:27received the submission of COCs for parliamentary district representatives
01:31and CONCANS for political party lists.
01:33What they wish is to proceed with the elections on May 2025.
01:38We, as religious leaders,
01:41have nothing to do other than being involved in the parliament.
01:46Because, as you know, the parliament is making laws.
01:50So, it might not be good for us if there are laws
01:55that are against the teachings of Islam,
01:56which is the moral, the moral governance.
02:00That is Islam.
02:01So, we might blame the religious leaders.
02:06Personally, we will call the both houses,
02:10the House of Representatives and the Senate
02:13to disregard that kind of proposal
02:17and tell the COMELEC to proceed with the elections.
02:22In the upcoming parliamentary elections,
02:24there are 73 positions up for grabs,
02:2640 for nominees of political parties,
02:2925 for district representatives,
02:31and 8 for sectoral representatives.
02:33But voters will only cast two votes,
02:35one for party and the other one for a representative.
02:39The parliamentary elections will be held
02:41alongside the national and local elections on May 12.
02:44The Commission explained,
02:45it would cost the government a whole lot more
02:48to postpone the BARMM elections.
02:50It's more expensive if it's automated.
02:52If it's automated here in Bangsamoro,
02:55we might have to spend 3 billion pesos.
02:58Here, in the elections that we will hold on May 12,
03:02in May 12,
03:04Bangsamoro was only allowed to ride
03:08in the national and local elections.
03:09That's why it's not that expensive.
03:11The poll body challenges those aspirants
03:14for the parliamentary elections
03:15to start the peaceful elections within themselves
03:18and set a good example for their supporters.
03:21Luisa Erispe, from The National TV,
03:25for a new and better Philippines.
