00:00:00Today's episode of the Mark Titus show college basketball is back and
00:00:04The Buckeyes might be back. Oh my god, Ohio State might be back. I'm so excited about that
00:00:09Um the game of the night last night Gonzaga
00:00:12Destroys Baylor got to talk about that got to talk about is this more of a sign of what to expect from Gonzaga?
00:00:18Which is to say is Gonzaga
00:00:20So they'd be number one in the country
00:00:22I'll just say it is Gonzaga the best team in the country after what we saw
00:00:25Them do or some of us saw it was very very late for most of the country
00:00:29But a lot of you, uh, probably stayed if you're if you're watching this show listen to this show
00:00:33I imagine your college basketball junkie and you watch that game. Um
00:00:36Do we come out of that and say Gonzaga is the best team in the country do we come out of that and say?
00:00:39Oh my god, Baylor has a lot of problems
00:00:42Both neither. What is the overreaction tonight?
00:00:45One of the top the top ten tilt the top ten tilt between Gonzaga and Baylor I can say it was over
00:00:52Almost immediately it felt it felt a lot like the the national title game except in reverse
00:00:56I know Baylor took a early lead there like Gonzaga jumped out to 8-1 lead
00:01:01I think and then Baylor took like a 9 to 8 lead
00:01:03But then for the most part this thing was over early and what was never particularly interesting in terms of the outcome
00:01:09But there is stuff to talk about there. Uh, otherwise the Buckeyes. Oh my god. What a surprise
00:01:13I I I'm feeling things about this Ohio State team and we're one game into the season
00:01:17um, so I'm doing my best to not get too carried away, but
00:01:21Yeah, as far as as far as the the stories from last night. It was Gonzaga looked awesome
00:01:25And the Ohio State Texas game was was supposed to be if not Gonzaga Baylor
00:01:30That was supposed to be the the best maybe second best game of the night
00:01:34And Ohio State led wire to wire
00:01:36I was very excited about that other stories that emerged yesterday for me the freshman class that I've been so high on
00:01:41Across the country is is performing very very well
00:01:44I'd like to shout out a lot of those guys talk about some of the stuff
00:01:47I mean speaking of the house day game Trey Johnson was was fucking bonkers for Texas. This kid is very very good
00:01:53There's so many good freshmen across the country Derek Queen at uh, that is his real name by the way if you're if you're
00:02:00If you're if you're new to this guy at Maryland
00:02:02He's uh, he's going to be an all-time great for the Terps and had a 2020 game last night for Maryland
00:02:06And his name is Derek Derek Queen
00:02:10But yeah, I thought Kentucky looked awesome. I thought Duke looked awesome
00:02:14Purdue is an interesting team and I think Purdue is gonna be a team that we'll talk about a lot this year because
00:02:19You know, obviously they they have had great success the past few years a lot more question marks
00:02:24But they got the Big Ten preseason player of the year who had a you know
00:02:28It's in the eye the beholder what type of game he had 15 assists
00:02:31It's probably gonna lead the country and assists this year
00:02:33Also at six turnovers and turnovers were a problem for Purdue against the Corpus Christi last night
00:02:38So they're gonna be an interesting team all season
00:02:41Otherwise, I I don't know it was it was a fun great
00:02:44It was a great start to the season a fun start to the season a lot of offense a lot of a lot
00:02:48Of high-scoring games a lot of shots being made. I'm fired up that the season is here
00:02:51We didn't get a I mean we had we had to Paul hit a buzzer beater to go to overtime to beat Southern, Indiana
00:02:57We had Texas A&M missed three shots at the buzzer to take
00:03:02UCF to overtime there were some good games
00:03:05But as far as like the games we circle going into the the night
00:03:09They ended up not being I mean, Ohio State took care of his wire-to-wire led, Texas and Gonzaga beat the absolute fuck out of Baylor
00:03:15But there's a lot of stuff to talk about a lot of things to be excited about college basketball is back
00:03:20Let's get into it. All right as much as I want to talk about, Ohio State
00:03:24I don't want to set the tone at the very first show we do to start the season with two guys wearing, Ohio State stuff
00:03:32Talking about the Buckeyes. I want to be very careful this season to not make this an Ohio State basketball show
00:03:39But I got to be honest state. I'm very fired up. So what we're being humble. Let me say that we are
00:03:44We are gonna talk about it, but let's can I can we at least can we do Gonzaga Baylor?
00:03:48So that way I just don't want to set the tone
00:03:50I don't want people that are like, oh, I heard I heard some things about this Titus guy in this Titus show
00:03:54I want to check this Titus show out and they turn it on there if you're watching on Rumble or YouTube or whatever and you
00:03:59Throw on the show and you see two guys wearing, Ohio State shit
00:04:01And we open the show talking about how great the Buckeyes are
00:04:04I mean that might say that is fine, but you might send the wrong message
00:04:07You are overcompensating here because I would say that if this was to you know, DePaul grads
00:04:12There's a good chance. We start off. Oh, absolutely
00:04:15Absolutely, but talk about absolutely that's fine
00:04:17Uh Gonzaga Baylor might my opening thoughts on Gonzaga Baylor
00:04:21like I said at the top wasn't really much of a game in terms of
00:04:24Outcome Gonzaga had this one in control the whole way. I think my big takeaway
00:04:31Beyond just like Gonzaga good Baylor bad
00:04:34Gonzaga, you know, it's gonna be a problem all season Baylor has things to work out
00:04:37Well, you gotta yada yada like the obvious just look at the final score and you could jump to these conclusions
00:04:42I think Baylor basketball and I'm doing my best to not panic about it
00:04:47but I think Baylor basketball has a cultural problem defensively and they have had this problem for the last two years and
00:04:53If you want to make the argument that Jerome Tang leaving the program has made their defensive identity
00:05:00Their defensive identity has gone with him when he left the program the evidence is is stacking up and last night
00:05:06This is year three now
00:05:07This is the start of year three without Jerome Tang on Scott Drew's bench and I'm not saying Jerome Tang is
00:05:12Responsible for all of it. I'm not saying that
00:05:15you know that that he was actually the the puppet behind what made Baylor basketball great and Scott drew or
00:05:20The puppet master I guess and Scott drew was just there on the bench and Jerome Tang was the one calling all the shots
00:05:26But the timeline is interesting Tate that the Baylor
00:05:30Baylor has always played great offense Baylor has always had guards like going back to I mean like 15 years ago now like Lace
00:05:37Darius done like guys like that. They've always had like dudes that could score the basketball. They've always had
00:05:42that's never been a
00:05:44problem when you're watching Baylor
00:05:46What made Baylor?
00:05:48Really a sin to the heights that they eventually won a national championship
00:05:52Was was how good they were defensively and there were times when Scott drew was flaming out in the NCAA tournament
00:05:57Which but that was the reputation about him when he was
00:05:59He was one of those guys like every other coaches
00:06:01You're always a coach that can't get over the hump until you do and then all of a sudden
00:06:04You're a guy that we're gonna trust can is gonna win it every year. You know, that's how it that's how it works
00:06:08He was a guy that was a choke artist in March. He will never get to a final four
00:06:12He will never win anything. He'll never win a big 12
00:06:15And the reason he got that reputation was because his defense by and large there were a few exceptions
00:06:21there were teams that were long and
00:06:23Athletic and and were exception but but by and large I felt like his defense was always a question mark
00:06:29He was throwing like crazy matchup zones out there
00:06:31Like I remember watching Baylor games like 15 years ago and thinking they have a ton of talent, but defensively
00:06:37They're just throwing a bunch of shit against the wall to see what sticks right and that's what they did last
00:06:41That's what that last night and the way they became the Baylor that now
00:06:45Commands respect and you know that you know
00:06:47Like the reason everyone was tuned in last night is because Baylor is a name now in college basketball
00:06:51That that grabs your attention. They have ascended as one of those. I don't know
00:06:56Blue blood elite whatever term you want to call it like Baylor basketball in this generation of college basketball matters and
00:07:03Sure, if you're a college basketball fan, you should be paying attention to what they're doing in Waco
00:07:07But I will say what made them so good was the the way they dominated Gonzaga in the national championship was defense
00:07:14They had fucking dogs on D from the get-go. Yeah, and the last two years
00:07:20That has fallen off a cliff watching Baylor. So I think going into last night
00:07:26It wasn't like on the forefront of my mind. I wasn't like man. All eyes are on Baylor's defense
00:07:30This is the only thing I'm gonna be watching but man, I
00:07:33Don't know like four minutes into the game
00:07:35I was like fuck this is this feels like what Baylor's been the last couple years
00:07:38Which is just it's not a bad team like they have dudes. They're gonna score the ball
00:07:42They're going to be they're going to be hard to beat
00:07:45Throughout this season and I think they're gonna be fine in terms of you know, the NCAA tournament roll around
00:07:50They'll probably be a top four seed. They'll probably be ranked all season
00:07:53But that was that was my big takeaway was like if I'm Scott drew after the last two years of
00:07:59having great offenses having shooters having like lineups where you throw a
00:08:02Bunch of guards out there and they can get shots and and scoring has never been a problem for them
00:08:08Defense is what is cut as has limited their ceiling the last two years and to open up the season granted
00:08:14You are on the road against a very very good Gonzaga team a very deep Gonzaga team
00:08:18But to open up the season with like zero heart with with throwing shit against the wall Tate
00:08:24That's what it was more than anything else is like they're coming out in a 1-3-1 matchup matchup zone
00:08:29They're all we do a 3-2
00:08:30Should we do a 2-3 which one and then like the players are looking at each other like which are we in zone?
00:08:34Like two two players like I thought we were man
00:08:36I thought we were in zone guys are wide open on Gonzaga. I don't know that that was that was my big takeaway was
00:08:43Baylor has to to figure some shit out and if you want to panic and overreact to one game
00:08:48You would say this is a this is actually kind of a cultural problem the last couple years. Yeah that that my
00:08:53Reaction to you saying that is that seems like a pretty big overreaction to the first game
00:08:58Like I get where you're coming from and that seems pretty deep
00:09:01But also playing Monday morning quarterback looking at the situation Baylor was going into last night
00:09:06Yeah, like Gonzaga's returning what 75% of their scoring right Baylor has to start there
00:09:12They're bringing in three new starters
00:09:13This game is being played in Spokane like looking back. This was a situation where
00:09:19You can kind of see how Gonzaga rolled and then Gonzaga comes out and shoots 42% from three and Baylor shoots 14%
00:09:26So I guess my point is I'm not off the Baylor train, and I don't think you are but you're somebody
00:09:32It's like a bigger thing than like hey, that's a tough opener to have yeah
00:09:36If the last two years which the last two years they were they were good
00:09:40They they they want they were 23 and 11 in 2023. They got a 3c lost in the second round last year
00:09:46They got a 3c lost in the second round. They were 24 and 11
00:09:49They basically had the exact same year two years in a row they had
00:09:52Among the best offenses in college basketball the last two years. Yeah, you're right
00:09:55They're not gonna
00:09:56They're not gonna shoot threes as poorly as they did last night every game like if the shots are falling for them
00:10:01it's a different story and maybe the the concerns about the defense are overblown, but
00:10:05I think if the last two years hadn't happened and we were coming off of the here if this was 2022 say and and
00:10:13Baylor had just won the national championship, and that was the first game
00:10:15We saw since they won the national championship wouldn't care at all right damn Gonzaga looks good
00:10:20It's more of the last couple years since and it lines up with I just can't get out of my head that it lines up
00:10:25With Jerome Tang leaving it's like Jerome Tang left, and then yeah
00:10:28I mean it adds up
00:10:29And it seems like you're more so saying that this was a Baylor problem last night you you have to give credit
00:10:35Gonzaga was an absolute machine last night Gonzaga Gonzaga does feel
00:10:39I said at the top that I told you the idea of them being on one team the country. I do feel like they
00:10:45They feel like
00:10:48The closest thing to a finished product out of the gate because of what they return right now
00:10:52So I do think that that an argument could be made that like to start the season now
00:10:55Is Gonzaga going to be the best at the end of season?
00:10:57We'll find out but a lot of these other teams will improve
00:11:00But for what they bring back, and how how well they finished the season last year
00:11:05Yeah, I mean an argument could be made that they are the best team in the country right now in early November
00:11:10We had we had just come off watching
00:11:12I'm sure we'll talk about the Ohio State, Texas game, and I thought Ohio State did a good job knocking down shots
00:11:18Gonzaga did an incredible job of finding like their shots that they made and they shot 42% from three
00:11:24They didn't feel like they were making tough shots. They were moving the ball. They had 25 assists 25 assists
00:11:29I mean
00:11:30That was a good bet and here's the thing they had 25 assists
00:11:34They had you know shot 42% from three and they dominated in the paint as well
00:11:38Yeah, that was a finished product last night in the opener and they have they have depth man
00:11:43I know they only they really only went a deep which is not that's not usually a deeps not deep or not deep
00:11:50That's pretty just standard. That's just a standard
00:11:53It's just basketball
00:11:55But I feel like the maybe it's not depth
00:11:57It's versatility or they have roster versatility where I feel like they can throw a bunch of different combinations out there
00:12:03And they have a big lineup and they can move guys
00:12:05They can move some of their big dudes to the four and I mean they're playing EK along with Ben Gregg as their starting lineup
00:12:10And EK can play the five for sure. So like they can they can go smaller. They can go bigger
00:12:15They have some of the big dudes are versatile
00:12:18They have they have guards that you know
00:12:20Bring it in battle and the portal is huge because he's not gonna be their best player this year
00:12:25but he gives them another wrinkle that you have like a three guard lineup now that
00:12:29Just gives you a bunch of versatility and I and and they're old
00:12:32they're all the experience that have been around the block and
00:12:35Yeah, I would be very excited if I was a Gonzaga fan and they're balanced is I think a word
00:12:40Yeah, that might be what I'm looking for. Yeah
00:12:42Now when you score a hundred and one points like the stats are gonna look pretty good after the game no matter what but they
00:12:47Had five dudes and double figures two more with nine points. You're out there Nem heart only had six
00:12:53This could be from all over the place
00:12:55yeah, and if they and if they all commit to that, which I have no reason to believe they won't if they all commit to
00:13:01Winning over stats that that's gonna be a beautiful team to watch if it doesn't become like
00:13:07Yeah, I have no reason to believe but that's just something that it does happen on teams
00:13:11it does happen where guys are like
00:13:12we're just I thought I was the best player Grammy kids like I thought I was the best and
00:13:16Battles like I well, I transferred here to be the best. You told me I was gonna do that as long as that doesn't
00:13:22You know infect their locker room, dude. They're gonna be
00:13:25if if Nem heart's fine scoring six points and and right a
00:13:29EK is gonna get his but if battles fine having nights where he's like now
00:13:33I'll just I'll just play defense and and and shoot when I'm open
00:13:37They're gonna be very very and isn't that that's Gonzaga's identity though. Like they're a well-coached team. They're an experienced team
00:13:43I would be shocked if we come in, you know in February and we're like, yeah Gonzaga struggling with someone wants to be the man
00:13:50Yeah
00:13:51Yeah
00:13:52Huff Huff was good off the bench. I like that guy. I'm looking up the heights of all these dude
00:13:57But Greg is 610 Huff is 610
00:14:01Stromer was was fucking stroking it. He was that guy was
00:14:04He comes off the bench and he comes off the bench just hitting three threes
00:14:08Uh, yeah, I I think I think Baylor's gonna be fine
00:14:11In terms of like being a good team
00:14:13I do I do think defense is a serious concern and they need to if they have real aspirations of
00:14:19Of making a Final Four
00:14:20That's that's something I'm gonna be paying attention to with Baylor all season because they they they have they have scores man
00:14:26like roaches
00:14:28You know not not
00:14:30Roaches a guy who's been around long enough that like I think people have seen as his warts through the years to where you forget
00:14:37That he is actually good and he'll have his moments where he reminds you how good he is Edgecombe
00:14:40The the star freshman had a very very bad game until he shit all over Joe. He haven't even talked
00:14:46Oh my god, dude, imagine imagine beating a top-ten team to open the season by 40 and
00:14:53It's not really really
00:14:55The story coming out is your son getting just fucking obliterate it was I don't know
00:15:02I would love to hear mark few thoughts on it because his team just came out and they looked like a well-oiled machine and
00:15:07Dominated a top-ten team and number one on SportsCenter's top ten this morning is gonna be his son that he put in as a victory
00:15:14Celebration getting nuts stuck in his mouth nuts in his mouth nuts in his mouth. That's gonna be one
00:15:21I think Baylor's gonna be be good though. I think there'll be five the kid the right kid off the bench for Baylor the freshman
00:15:27He was he was a surprise
00:15:29I didn't know anything about him and then he was he was balling out and they have dudes that not only can they shoot and
00:15:34They weren't hitting shots last night, but those shots will fall
00:15:36they can get to the bucket and I think that was that was what uh
00:15:41You know excited me about the you see the vision with Baylor that excites you that you have multiple guys that can get downhill get
00:15:46to the rim
00:15:47Draw to kick it out. They just have to figure out defense and I think like it it kind of snowballed for them
00:15:52They weren't hitting shots. They let that carry over to defense where they were disjointed all night
00:15:56They weren't really sure what they wanted to run. There was nothing there was nothing
00:15:59They trusted defensively from the coaching staff and players perspective. There was nothing that was like we needed
00:16:03We need some stops here to put something together. Let's turn to this line up this this
00:16:09You know zone defense this man did whatever whatever your it is
00:16:12You have in your back pocket where you're like, this is this is our defensive unit
00:16:16They don't have that and they need to figure that out
00:16:18But otherwise, I mean the talents the talents very obvious there and I think they'll be they'll be fine long term
00:16:23We're gonna find out Saturday. They go right from this game. They have Arkansas on Saturday
00:16:27They do is that our I believe it's or no, that's in a it's at American Airlines. That's in Dallas, right?
00:16:33That's Dallas. Yeah, that'll be that'll be yeah, Arkansas. That'll be a good game
00:16:36So if the defense is a problem, it's gonna be it's gonna be a right full display on Saturday. Yeah. Yeah, you're right about that
00:16:43Yeah, we'll find out soon enough. That's the thing about starting off with these big games. I understand it
00:16:47I like how Baylor took this game. It's in Spokane. Like that's a tough tough opener
00:16:51You're about to be oh and two if you can't beat Arkansas. Oh, yeah, but I love it. That's that's uh,
00:16:57Yes, they got they got St. John's to coming up and then you can be a great game. Oh my god
00:17:02That's in the Bahamas, that's right. They're in the we should go boots on the ground for that one
00:17:07I can't dude just in case I can't I'm gonna be in Maui. Oh, you know, I'd love to be in the Bahamas
00:17:13Yeah, you know that I just think at some point like we need to get eyes on this defense not off the TV
00:17:19Boots on the ground. I would love to go to the Bahamas, but I'm gonna be fucking grinding my dick off in Maui
00:17:25Unfortunately, I'll work Columbus. Oh, hi
00:17:28I'm gonna be working so hard in Maui
00:17:30I can zag it has Arizona State next and then I guess San Diego Stem is looking at their schedule. No
00:17:36West Virginia is interesting
00:17:38Kentucky UConn UCLA. Yeah, they got it. They got a typical tough non-conference

00:18:24Alright, let's I put it off long enough. Let's talk about the Buckeyes
00:18:28It's time to talk about the Buckeyes
00:18:29We got our first taste it will not our first taste because we got some at the tail end of last year with Jake
00:18:34Diebler
00:18:36Diebler ball last year
00:18:37But this was the first like the program is molded in his vision the the the roster is molded in his vision
00:18:43and the style of play is molded in his vision and
00:18:47Like I said it earlier this was supposed to be the second best game of the night
00:18:50This was supposed to be honestly for most of the country
00:18:53This was probably the game of the night because they were probably like I can't I'm not gonna stay up to watch Gonzaga Bay
00:18:57But but you know, you have Ohio State, Texas
00:19:01What was it? What did it close at like two point spread? Yeah, I think I have three is three at one point
00:19:06I don't know it was it was but the point is is like, you know
00:19:08If you're a neutral observer, you're like that's gonna be a close game two brands. I know two Oh one and a half
00:19:13It was one and a half
00:19:14Yeah
00:19:14I thought it closed it like one and a half
00:19:16I'm on TNT Grant Hill's on the call with Candace Parker and you know all these in front of 300 people
00:19:22300 people in Vegas
00:19:24That was crazy. But anyway, this was this was you know, I'm not I'm not saying this is a bigger matchup than Gonzaga Baylor
00:19:31But it was it was as far as the opening night goes
00:19:33This was supposed to be one of the better games and for the Buckeyes to come out of the gate hitting everything Tate
00:19:38It wasn't that we were making every shot. That was awesome
00:19:42It was that we were taking them honestly, and I was I got so excited and jumped off my couch. I
00:19:48Don't know like probably five times in the first half because
00:19:51Ohio State just confidently stepping into shots and dudes like being okay with missing shots
00:19:57Was such a breath of fresh air and I don't mean to like overstate it
00:20:01I don't think I you know like
00:20:03some Ohio State fans will tell you that like Holtman was the worst coach we've ever had in the history of the program and like
00:20:09Guys were it there were guys that were playing confidently under under home
00:20:13And I don't mean to like say that that everybody was scared, but it was very clear from the start
00:20:18That an emphasis with Jake Diebler is going to be one guard play. I love our guards. I love our backcourt to
00:20:25Versatility guys shooting threes Bradshaw was not Aaron Bradshaw was not particularly great and I don't love
00:20:30You know long term. I don't love him, you know, just catching and shooting when he's wide open, but that's my mindset
00:20:36I do love the mindset
00:20:37I do love the Jake Diebler is telling his guys if you're on the floor you're on the you're on the floor to shoot the
00:20:41Ball and if you're open shoot the ball
00:20:42So I you know
00:20:43We can you can always reign guys in you can always take confident guys and kind of like coach them up and like pull them
00:20:49Back in it's hard to take guys that are scared shitless and have tight asses when they're out there and don't want to shoot and
00:20:54Try to get them caught. That's way harder. So I was very encouraged by that
00:20:59We are not a perfect basketball team by any stretch of the imagination
00:21:03I do not expect us to open the game hitting our first 26 threes or
00:21:08We hit everything eight zero in a blink of an eye, um, I do want I texted you this during the game
00:21:14I think it's gonna end up being Micah Parrish
00:21:15She's gonna have to be the guy that does this but I want more guys and this was
00:21:20I said this about Baylor earlier, even though they lost by 40
00:21:23One thing that stood out to me was Baylor does have guys that can get downhill and get to the rim and I Ohio State
00:21:29That was one can as the second half we're on I wasn't as concerned about it
00:21:33The first half that was a pro like I was like dude
00:21:35We're hitting threes
00:21:35But like we made one two-point field goal in the first we had 38 points in the first half and we had hit 10 threes
00:21:41That is as unsustainable as bad. It's not it's not sustainable
00:21:44No, um, so I I want to make sure we we still have dudes that can get downhill get to the rim
00:21:50you know what because
00:21:52eventually
00:21:53If the scout is out that we're just gonna work
00:21:55The only reason we're driving is to draw two to kick it out to shooters
00:21:58They're just gonna stay attached to shooters. You're gonna dare like a Michi Johnson to finish at the rim
00:22:03Thornton has a nice floater. I like Bruce's floater. I like I think I think it's a I'm panicking a little too much about that
00:22:09but when I
00:22:10I just it was really like the end of the first half
00:22:14we were hitting so many threes and then the end of the first half the offense got a little stagnant and there was no
00:22:19Texas was was
00:22:21staying attached to shooters a little bit more and
00:22:24We couldn't we couldn't like we couldn't finish at the rim for shit
00:22:27And I started to get a little panic about that
00:22:29Micah Parrish was was great in the second half and I think I think we'll be fine. Yeah, I I would say this
00:22:35I I gotta call it as I see it. I'm very happy with Ohio State's performance last night
00:22:40You can tell that's culturally how hard we play how we're playing for each other
00:22:44There's a clear shift in what's going on with Jake Diebler at the end of the day, though
00:22:49We did shoot the ball 50% from that. We were 14 for 28 from the three-point line
00:22:53Yeah, and and that's just that's not gonna happen like Junie Mobley. Okay
00:22:58I can't believe we've made it the entire show so far without mentioning his name. I
00:23:02Love him Tate. I love I love orders Jersey. I love I did I ordered two of them
00:23:07I ordered one for just in case I put on weight this season. I ordered once. Yeah, like what a break in case
00:23:12Yeah, yeah, but he comes in he plays 13 minutes
00:23:16The balls he has for her his first college career shot to be where was that from?
00:23:20Uh, I thought it was gonna be a backboard violation. He was so deep the very first time
00:23:25He was 4 for 4 from 3 or 4 for only played 13 minutes and impacted the game as much as anyone
00:23:30Yeah, but I guess I I don't know. I'm trying he's not gonna fall off
00:23:34He's never I I saw enough last night to be confident. He will never miss a shot
00:23:38That's never miss a three. He will never miss a three in his career
00:23:40He will be the greatest shooter of all time. I guess for is a freshman a true freshman 4 for 4 from 3 and
00:23:48They weren't they weren't like the toughest shots in terms of like I'm I don't
00:23:52It's just wasn't prime JJ reddit coming off a you know a pin down with you know
00:23:56Two guys hand in his face as he's fading away type shit, but they were not easy. These were not easy
00:24:01These were not easy threes. He's 4 for 4. He was awesome. I guess now
00:24:07I'm just battling like the internal debate right now on Twitter and everyone is saying like this is a top-10 team
00:24:13That's where I'm like guys. I'm the biggest Ohio State fan
00:24:16We know we don't get carried away because we we've we for all of Holdman's flaws winning in November wasn't a problem winning
00:24:22I know like winning, you know when he games in November was never his problem. It was January
00:24:28So like we do have to sort of wait and see with this team in that regard. I will just say I care less about I
00:24:35Care less about the how do I say this? I care I care less about reality and I care but more about how I feel honestly
00:24:43and I
00:24:46Differing and I and I feel good this morning. I'll just say this man
00:24:50I had more fun watching Ohio State basketball last night than I've had since I
00:24:54Honestly off the top of my head and and and I'd have to go back and actually look through the schedule because I'm sure like
00:24:59You know when we beat Purdue right when said key was stripping Zack eatie. I had probably had fun there
00:25:04but honestly as I was watching last night, I
00:25:07I thought that the last time I had this much fun was
00:25:11Probably the game in the Dean Dome when Dwayne Washington went crazy and we beat Carolina by 25
00:25:16Because it wasn't just that we won. It wasn't like like Texas is not gonna be a Final Four team
00:25:21Probably they could be I don't know that they have some talent
00:25:23We were down a guard they were down a guard tree
00:25:25My mark is might end up being their second leading scorer on the season probably will be
00:25:31but I
00:25:33It wasn't that was like oh my god
00:25:35We just beat the best team in the country and whatever else it was just pure joy to see a team
00:25:41spread the floor shoot confidently
00:25:45Had there was not a single guy that took the floor. That was like I I'm nervous
00:25:49I don't know if we belong here
00:25:50I don't know, you know
00:25:51We haven't made the tournament in a few years like boy, we're playing a ranked team to open the gate with Jake Diebler's
00:25:58You know start of his career game one, there's a lot of unknown
00:26:02I don't know how this every single guy that was out. There was like I'm here to score. I'm here to to
00:26:06To rebound
00:26:08Yeah, I thought the defense was was great and for the most part
00:26:12So I think that's what it was. I was just like so
00:26:16Pleasantly surprised and I was I was having so much fun watching them that no
00:26:21I don't think this is the biggest win and Ohio State basketball in the last few years
00:26:24I don't think this is like I don't think we should be pumping our chest as they were a top 10 team
00:26:28But I will say I had a great fucking no doubt that and that's perfectly said I guess where I'm coming from is
00:26:34Last year when Diebler took over we were damn near at rock bottom
00:26:37Yeah, and and we finished eight and three and and everyone we weren't supposed to be there. We weren't supposed to beat Purdue
00:26:43We weren't supposed to and then coming into this
00:26:44It was like we shocked the world and all of a sudden became favorites in one night
00:26:49And I don't like that like we still I honestly I honestly don't know if we should be ranked yet
00:26:54I think we're I think I think get Texas out. We're gonna get we're gonna probably be ranked
00:26:58I think we're I think I think the Buckeyes in a perfect world
00:27:02If I I think we're like the third team receiving votes next week, but we won't be we'll probably rank like be ranked like 20
00:27:09We'll be ranked and then we do have a and M. We're at a and at a next week, but yeah, they did lose
00:27:13What what what flaws did you see because everyone's high on the Buckeyes right now?
00:27:17What are some things like I they had 16 assists 15 turnovers? Yeah, that's not that's not good
00:27:22Oh, what are the things you think I think?
00:27:25Sean Stewart and Aaron Bradshaw who are highly thought of recruits that are coming from Duke and Kentucky respectively and
00:27:31You know didn't have
00:27:33Great years for their programs and and were thought of as like projects that will take and will you know?
00:27:38Maybe a new environment will get them going or all that
00:27:41They kind of looked like they yeah, they looked they kind of looked like we've
00:27:46We that the players we know them to be and I was hoping they would be a little bit better
00:27:50But they but they can be great defensively. I think I think I think those two guys can have impact
00:27:55Defensively because they're just so long and athletic and I think that's gonna be where they they make their mark
00:28:01But yeah them. Yeah, they both look raw. They both look raw
00:28:05I was excited there was as much hype
00:28:07Surrounding Bradshaw coming to Columbus as like I that was who I was most excited about bringing in when you tell me that he finished
00:28:13With one rebound last night. Yeah, two points one rebound that you texted me mid-game
00:28:19And you said maybe bringing in Devin Royal and playing small
00:28:22I want I think Devin Royal at the five and playing small ball is gonna be a lineup
00:28:28Yeah, as we as the season wears on but I
00:28:32Love kind of what we were saying about Gonzaga the versatility and the balance and all that
00:28:36I think that stood out to me is that we had to ten guys in the game
00:28:40When the first ten minutes of the game and it wasn't because of fouls or injuries or anything else
00:28:44It was Jake was and I also didn't feel and maybe maybe it was this but I also didn't feel like it was
00:28:49Jake trying to figure out lineups. I think he kind of knew what he was doing
00:28:53And maybe maybe that's me just you know carrying water for him a little bit
00:28:56But it wasn't it wasn't like an act of desperation of like fuck. I don't know who my lineups are
00:29:00It was more of like this is our identity
00:29:03We're gonna play a lot of guys now Big Ten play rolls around games start becoming more meaningful
00:29:08obviously rotations will tighten up but
00:29:10To start the season and and the messaging to the fan base is we are going to run
00:29:15We are going to shoot a lot of threes
00:29:17We're going to shoot them confidently and we're going to play a lot of guys and by playing a lot of guys
00:29:21You can now turn to the guys
00:29:23in the huddle in the locker room and say
00:29:25Bust your ass you need a breather
00:29:27We got another dude that can come out and feel comfortable having said all that Bruce Thornton did play 36 minutes
00:29:32So right, it's not like it's not like we're doing the the John Calipari 2015, Kentucky platoon system
00:29:37But but but even Austin Parks gets in there
00:29:40He only got six minutes, but he was in like Diebler's giving him confidence. He's he's coaching him up
00:29:45It showed that he is going to use his bench. Yeah
00:29:48But I I didn't think Ohio State played anywhere close to perfect and and for us to go wire to wire
00:29:54On a ranked team who has I
00:29:57Mean if Trey Johnson's not gonna be a lottery pick
00:29:59I this might be the way to be a draft of all-time because that kid can score the basketball. Holy shit
00:30:04He he was awesome 29 points this freshman class
00:30:07You may never have been more right about something than when how good this freshman class you and you've been saying it for months
00:30:12But Trey Johnson, I don't know. Did you hear the comparison at halftime where it's like Kevin? He looks like Kevin Durant, huh?
00:30:19Where did Kevin Durant go to school? Did he?
00:30:22For a year Oh, Texas, it was Texas. That's where that's where he goes. I see the comparison. Okay now I see
00:30:27You know, what's crazy is I didn't actually see it until I realized they both went to the same and then you connected the dot
00:30:32Yeah, and they're both they're both right-handed too, right and they're both
00:30:37Both right-handed you're talking. They're both the same race. Those are important. You have to get those, right?
00:30:42That's a you basically if you have those three things you can make that you can make any comparison as long
00:30:48What you can what you absolutely cannot do is cross racial comparisons, that's a big no. No, you cannot
00:30:54I really don't see that comparison. You cannot you can absolutely not do cross racial. That's that's a that's fucking crazy
00:31:00You cannot do if you have a left-handed player. You you have to compare him to a left. That's true
00:31:06That's that's a hundred percent fact. You cannot take a left-handed player and say he reminds me of this right-handed player
00:31:11That's that just breaks everyone's brain and then when in doubt
00:31:14Just go with the legend that that played at the school that the guy yeah
00:31:18I think I think one thing that would help me out just visually. I think that Johnson needs to change his number go to 35
00:31:25Yeah, have they retired? Is that a thing? I'm sure they have damn. I'm sure they have I don't know
00:31:29They did you see on the the quarter zips? They had the the KD logo. I think that was for Texas
00:31:34I like I don't remember that being there last year
00:31:35Maybe it was and I just well he's got as I used to be not to change total subjects
00:31:39But he's got so many pro teams now where he's saying hey, I'm not he said
00:31:43I'm not getting a statue because I play for too many teams. You got to go all the way back to your roots
00:31:47Yeah, yeah, that's what LeBron did with Ohio State
00:31:55Dude as an aside the quarter zip that we're wearing the coaches are wearing her out
00:32:01You see a little logo on our core logo. Oh my god
00:32:05The logo the one team has where the whole coaching staff
00:32:09Who gives a shit what a bizarre thing to point out on night one of college basketball, but I we're here now
00:32:17The the logo on the left chest the Ohio State logo was just massive. It was it was like, oh wow
00:32:23It is 150 percent too big
00:32:25Yeah, that's zoomed in. That's the biggest that's the biggest quarter zip logo. I've ever seen and then you just got a little Nike over
00:32:30Yeah, it's crazy. How about some balance over there? Yeah, what are we doing? What are we doing? Let's get uh
00:32:35This isn't an Ohio State podcast, but Ohio State
00:32:39Yeah, I mean, I I I don't want uh, I told you I've told you this when we were we were talking about like this
00:32:46He's in college basketball. I don't want this show to be you know, I you know, I have to push back on this
00:32:49I'm very I'm a very proud alum. I
00:32:52Ohio State basketball is the one sports team. I care more about than than anything else in the world
00:32:57You I think our Ohio State guy
00:33:01Look over at you were Titus first told me this when he talked about coming on the show
00:33:05He's like so your name's Ohio State. Yeah, but we don't want to make this an Ohio State podcast, right? Maybe drop the Ohio
00:33:12The Facebook. Oh, yeah
00:33:14But at the same time I want to talk about what I find relevant in college basketball
00:33:18and I think last night that was one of the stories the Buckeyes look great and and
00:33:21there were a lot of questions are picked eighth in the conference and the the
00:33:24you know, I I don't necessarily think coming out of that game that you know, that was like a
00:33:30Fuck everyone that picked us eighth. We were obviously the best team in the Big Ten
00:33:33There's a lot there's gonna be a lot of good teams in the Big Ten
00:33:36but yeah, I I'm very excited and I do think I
00:33:40Think that the people that are like we should be top ten if you know that that's crazy to me
00:33:45But we will be right we could eventually we could eventually get to that point. Maybe I don't know
00:33:49We'll see but I will say that they coming for out of last night and going into last night
00:33:54This was the expectation anyway, but now definitively coming out of last night
00:33:59I will say that this is we will make the NCAA tournament
00:34:03We must say to breaking we haven't made we haven't made the tournament a few years and that is the standard that should be the
00:34:07Stance ultimately why Holman was fired is because you're not making NCAA tournaments. Um
00:34:12so it's not like it's not I'm not trying to hang a banner over that but like we
00:34:16That this team is good enough to make the tournament this and this game by the way, I was gonna say
00:34:21This you said it last night. This game will go a long way. It will us making the tournament
00:34:26It will I think Texas is going to end up being a pretty good team
00:34:28I don't know how well coached they are. I will say that they were they were sloppy and it's it's early season college basketball
00:34:35but they were they were sloppy taking a bunch of dumb fucking shots, and I don't I don't know kaluma is like I
00:34:42Arthur kaluma is an interesting ballplayer to me. He didn't have that bad of a box score
00:34:46But like you watch him you're like, oh, that's right. That's why that's why Creighton let you go
00:34:51And that's why I said like I I don't know. He's he's he can be really really good. But boy, he's he's frustrating as fuck
00:34:57I think some of the transfers they brought in were a little lackluster last night
00:35:02But Trayvon mark didn't play and when they get him back, I'd trade Johnson's the truth
00:35:05He's gonna be he's gonna be a bucket for them all year
00:35:07But I don't know how good Texas will like I don't know if Texas is final for good
00:35:11I do think Texas by the end of the season will be a quality win, right?
00:35:15And that is important and we stack bubble one bubble time if we can stack up a couple of those
00:35:20I mean we have our non-conference. We have Texas. We have Auburn. We have Texas A&M
00:35:23We have Kentucky you win two of those four games and in March those are going to stand out if we are a bubble team
00:35:30Um, I want to say this about the freshman class because I'm talking about Trey Johnson
00:35:33The the Will Riley at Illinois had a monster game last night Derek Queen who again that is his real name
00:35:40Oh that that probably won't be the last time I say that that that's his real name
00:35:44But it just sounds every time you say it out loud. You sound funny. You keep saying that. How do you know? Oh
00:35:49That's a good point. Like maybe it's not his real name. I want to see a birth certificate. That's a good point
00:35:53Yeah, maybe it's not his real name at all. But he also to my knowledge. He doesn't have an NIL deal with Dairy Queen. So
00:36:00That's a mistake Dairy Queen. That's a good one. I like that. You got to get in the NIL game
00:36:06The yeah, the guy named Derek Queen should should have a good idea. It's very creative every time I say it out loud
00:36:12I like I have to pause and be like that is his real name. It's his real name Derek Queen
00:36:17He was a fucking monster for Maryland. The the Duke guys were great, which we could talk about the dude
00:36:22Second but um, I just want to say before we dive too much into the the freshman class and some of these
00:36:28individual performances, um, I
00:36:30I do think this freshman class. I said it all preseason. I'm saying it after one night
00:36:35I do think this freshman class is going to be fucking awesome. I think
00:36:40one from a draft perspective
00:36:41But that's always the case every time you look at it that mock drafts the freshmen are in this era of college basketball
00:36:47Even as as people become enamored with transfers freshmen will still always be the most desired prospects from an NBA standpoint
00:36:54But I think there's going to be actually
00:36:58There will be actual impact freshman all across the country
00:37:01And I think night one was proof positive to that that you are seeing a ranked Texas team and Trey Johnson in his first college game
00:37:09Scores 29 points frankly didn't really have any help offensively and is carrying Texas is carrying a ranked team
00:37:15In a marquee matchup to open open the season and Derrick Queen that is his real name, by the way, I had
00:37:22Had 20 and 20 for Maryland
00:37:24I saw a stat I saw something that that no Maryland player and and you know how these big tents that goes
00:37:29these stats go where uh
00:37:32You're not really sure what you're reading because they always throw in so many qualifiers that I don't know if this was
00:37:37The the first 2020 game or if it was the first 2020 game on a Monday night in November or first 2020 game above 60 degree
00:37:43Wearing white jerseys above 60. Yeah, I don't know all the qualifiers, but I my interpretation
00:37:48I think this was the first ever
00:37:502020 game for a Maryland player since Joe Smith in 95
00:37:52They were thinking I think this was the first one and that was one I saw they were throwing out the first 2020 games
00:37:58That's when I saw first 2020 game in college since 2022. Would that be true? There has no way
00:38:05Years surely. Yeah, that can't be right
00:38:07But the other one first freshman game first 2020 game by a freshman since Michael Beasley in
00:38:132007 really that's a real one
00:38:16The first of 20 of any by a freshman since see this is what's hard about the Big Ten schools
00:38:21Did you just need a fact-checker? Yeah, what's hard about these Big Ten stats man is you just don't know
00:38:25You don't know what all the qualifiers are
00:38:27so you come you come and
00:38:29You'll learn this soon enough that you come sit down in that chair and have that microphone your face
00:38:33You're gonna believe this step
00:38:35So the first time a guy scored 35 points ever and then you're like, that's not well
00:38:39that's just not right and you go back and you look at the graphic and it's like
00:38:43Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna retract the one that I said
00:38:46That was the first 2020 game in two years like Zach. He had a 30 and 20 game
00:38:50Yeah, but also maybe a 30 and 20 game doesn't count as it doesn't count as a 2020 game
00:38:54It's like a triple doubles not a double double. That's what it is. A rectangle is
00:39:00Always a square is not a square but a square is always a rectangle. What do you thumbs up in Cody?
00:39:06About what he said, I've thrown a million teachers said a million things and you just gave him a thumbs up and said he's right
00:39:11Thank you, Cody. What do you what is he right about?
00:39:17Love that what is it right about? What was he right?
00:39:20That was that is a real stat 2020 game since Michael Beasley in Kansas. So the first that was the first freshman
00:39:26Yeah of across the country. Yeah, have a 2020 game since Michael Beasley. All right, good stat. That's now that's a good stat
00:39:33Right here first, but I think the the I
00:39:38Think the freshman class being this good might not be an accident
00:39:43Shouldn't be quite a surprise because we did we are in an era where?
00:39:47The the transfers are becoming more desired. Like I don't I don't need that to explain that to people but that was
00:39:53You know, I'll be condescending and explain it anyway that uh, you know
00:39:57it was one and Duns and Fred and we were all like enamored with go get the
00:40:00The top freshmen go get the the best ranked recruiting class
00:40:03that's the key to
00:40:05success and then if you can keep if one of them if one of your five stars can have like a
00:40:09Mediocre season you can bring it back next year and then you can bring in more five stars. Holy shit
00:40:12You're gonna be really rolling
00:40:14And that was kind of the formula and then somewhere along the line as the transfer portal
00:40:18Became more of a thing and also restrictions on transferring went away and and guys can just pop around and play immediately and all that
00:40:25Coaches were like fuck recruiting 16 year olds. Why don't we just get the guys who are proven?
00:40:29I don't want to say they're gonna go away from transfers Tate, but I think the the pivot to transfers was
00:40:38It was more pronounced because I really as I was sitting on it last night
00:40:42I was like did Kovac play a part in this and what I mean by that is
00:40:46was last year's freshman class the last freshman class that the development was not what we quite expected because
00:40:54This was a freshman class that as they were coming up in grassroots basketball had a couple years where
00:40:59You're fucking playing in masks and tournaments are getting canceled and like I don't know
00:41:04Yeah
00:41:04I'm trying to do the math because so this this class is the class of
00:41:082024 this class because not only is this class awesome the class after it's awesome and as far as far as I can tell like
00:41:13Every class moving forward is going to be awesome
00:41:15but we had a few classes there where it's like this is a little weird and I
00:41:18The only thing I can think is that the the and
00:41:21It makes sense in my brain that like these these dudes as they're coming up in eighth ninth tenth grade
00:41:26However, old they were um, and those summers when they're supposed to be
00:41:31Now they still Kovac was so long ago that now they did, you know, if say you lost your ninth grade
00:41:37Yeah, they're of development
00:41:39You still had like the rest of high school
00:41:40but what if it is just as simple as that is like they were like pushed back a year in terms of like
00:41:46having
00:41:47high quality reps against each other and high and and and and going to camps and going to
00:41:53Because that is that is what development has become and recruiting is like you're just constantly all summer
00:41:57You're a five-star you're going here
00:41:59You're playing against other five stars and then like these these five these fucking academies across the country
00:42:05they're playing each other but then there were a few years with Kovac where they weren't and I wonder if like that whole era of
00:42:11like
00:42:11The weird development we're finally done with that and now we can move forward
00:42:15We're like every freshman class is back to like we got a five-star, you know, he's gonna be good. Uh-huh. I don't know
00:42:20Yeah, no, it makes sense. I'm doing my timeline from just when I coached high school basketball
00:42:24This is the first class that has had four straight a you summers like the earth
00:42:28Yeah, this this class could have had an impacted freshman season
00:42:32But by that summer they were playing they were back to going full-on camps. They were going full-on a you schedules training schedule
00:42:39So it may be and I'm not I'm not saying that like, you know, Isaiah Collier
00:42:44What didn't have an awesome year at USC like we thought last year because there were two months where he had to play basketball
00:42:50With a mask when he was in eighth grade, you know, and that's that's really the reason right?
00:42:54But I do think that that's I mean if you think back to that time there were a lot of coaches
00:43:00Making that observation like this is this is hampering development and we're like unsure about I don't know
00:43:06I think at the time that was that was a common thing and then we kind of like move we as a society just kind
00:43:11Of move past Cove and like we're like, all right, everything's fine
00:43:13let's move forward, but I think we were seeing like a residual effect maybe with the with the the talent and
00:43:18maybe not even just the talent because there were good freshman last year more than more the evaluation or more the just kind of
00:43:25Yeah, there was a time especially last year where if if I told you your school got five-star recruits, you're like, all right
00:43:32Well, I need to know more and it does feel like this freshman class
00:43:35Holy shit across the board with the exception of maybe like the North Carolina guys who are a little slow out of the gate
00:43:41Yeah, I don't know that they're they're fucking stacked dude. Yeah, I mean the evidence there
00:43:45We do on this list there is it is freshman after freshman after freshman that shined in their debut last. Yeah. Yeah
00:43:52and
00:43:53The the freshman we're gonna talk about most both on this show
00:43:56Today and throughout the country of throughout the rest of the season I should say
00:44:01Are the Duke guys and you were watching I was more locked in on Purdue than the Duke game because Purdue
00:44:07Against Corpus Christi. They were letting them hang around a little bit in the second half and I was just like I need to keep
00:44:12An eye on this one. I'll flip over to Duke when I when I feel good about Purdue
00:44:16winning
00:44:17so I missed the
00:44:20Initial can I threw the first can apple and then you like the next three?
00:44:25But then I flipped it over and holy shit, dude. They're there. They're going to be so fun. Am I am I off base?
00:44:30No, you're off. You know my excitement for this Duke team. No, you're you're a hundred though the two freshmen
00:44:35So they started three of them
00:44:36But can nipple and flag led the team in minutes last night and you were I mean spot-on in the way where?
00:44:42Cooper flag in my opinion impacts the game in a way that can nipple doesn't like he he had he finished with 18 points
00:44:49But there was a time where he had rebounds assists wasn't really looking to score. Yeah, it wasn't I mean he had a putback
00:44:55He had a couple free throws here and there
00:44:58He is a great basketball player
00:45:00Knipple is a bucket. He's a bucket. There was a time. I had to go all-caps last night
00:45:07The sign of a bucket to me is if you are in transition you get a steal in transition and you don't go pass pass
00:45:14Layup, if you get a steal and it's like hey, I'm shooting this shit
00:45:18Yeah, and he did that and he hit it and have like a personal 10-0 run
00:45:22He might be his game is my favorite person. I do have one problem though Titus. What's that?
00:45:27I think he has a punchable face
00:45:30yeah, I I I was trying to monitor the reactions to
00:45:36Conca-nipple last night from from college basketball fans, and it does feel like the initial
00:45:41Read on him is that he's going to be hated. Yeah, it feels like he's got the
00:45:46He cuz he's he's a white guy with swagger. I say you see he is white. Did you see that? Yeah, he is a white man
00:45:53cuz I'm
00:45:55But a flag like we talked about this I think Cooper flag is gonna be beloved he is awesome
00:46:01I think so
00:46:02I think people are gonna be but why can't can it will be why why?
00:46:06Can it was gonna be he's not like a I think one of the one of the problems people have with Duke white guys
00:46:11Through the years is that they're not actually good. They're just like shitheads
00:46:14uh-huh is this is like a perception is like you're not actually like a
00:46:18You're not that talented. You're like it like you're Greg Paul is type or you're just like racing Allen was it? Yeah
00:46:22Yeah, who Grayson's like, you know, he's carved out an NBA career for himself
00:46:26But yeah to that point like Grayson Allen was never like the best player
00:46:29But and he was like dickhead first basketball player. Yeah
00:46:33But can nipples not that he's gonna be a top-ten pick. Yeah a bucket
00:46:36He's he's there's no way you can watch him and be like this guy is not really that good
00:46:41He's just a shithead who's like sliding over late to take charges and like playing a little dirty and like he's just a fucking bucket
00:46:48Dude, but there's something about his I'll tell you what it is. It's
00:46:52You have to know when you are a white dude from Wisconsin going to Duke
00:46:57What your label is gonna be like if conca nipple was at Indiana right now
00:47:01I think he would be taking the world by storm
00:47:03They'd be build a statue already if you're a white dude going to Duke like you're about to be told that you are the villain
00:47:08Also, maybe everybody has decided you just can't hate Cooper flag. So we have to find you my buddy
00:47:14I don't know. I'm not gonna hate concave. I like this Duke team a lot. I I'm not bashful about that whatsoever. I
00:47:22Cannibal has I'm getting don't connect vibes and maybe it's the maybe that's a new that's a new
00:47:28Comparison is if your name is just
00:47:32Yeah, if you pronounce the K with the K in and it's not silent then I'll fall in love with you
00:47:37But um, is he six seven? That's what they're. Mm-hmm
00:47:41Like you were catching shoe guy. He can he's not just a shooter. By the way, he can he go
00:47:44He can well, that's what I was gonna say or watching
00:47:47You're talking about the freshman class is more developed more polished
00:47:50That's a perfect example because that dude's a catch-and-shoot scorer going off two feet ball fake school up and under that dudes a hooper
00:47:58jab series, uh, he uh
00:48:01Yeah, I I'm not I'm not here to say he's gonna have a year like don't connect have but for me
00:48:05Going back to what I said earlier about like I care more about how I feel when I watch basketball
00:48:10He's been a just a pleasant surprise. I remember vividly
00:48:15It's crazy what I remember I can't remember like my fucking zip code as I'm filling out forms, but I remember I remember
00:48:22vividly
00:48:23By current zip code, by the way, I fill out shit. I'm like, where am I living in?
00:48:26Um, but I remember vividly watching Tennessee at Michigan State exhibition game a little over a year ago
00:48:34and I like in pausing my TV who the fuck is this guy Dalton connect and just you know,
00:48:41Looking around an empty room like
00:48:44You guys seeing this and there's no one else in the room. I'm like you seeing this shit. Holy shit
00:48:47Um, and I kind of have a similar feeling with knipples. Like I didn't know I knew Duke was going to be good
00:48:53I knew they have a good recruiting class, but honestly
00:48:55If if you if you stop the world
00:48:59When you hear that Duke has a great recruiting class, the world will never be turning like it's just like it's every fucking year
00:49:04So it's like I'm not gonna stop what I'm doing and fawn over a great recruiting class at Duke
00:49:08I knew Cooper flag was gonna be good. I didn't know a ton about the other guys
00:49:12And when I actually started paying attention and I saw not just how skilled canipal is but his his the way he approaches the game
00:49:20It reminded me of Dalton connect. He's a cold-ass white boy
00:49:22That is a bucket getter and he's not just a shooter and he's got size and he can score at all three levels
00:49:27And I think he's gonna be their leading scorer. I mean he was last night. It's easy to say coming after one game
00:49:33And or maybe it's an overreaction. I don't know
00:49:35I don't know how I don't know how Duke's locker room anticipates this season going
00:49:38I I think a nipple because what you said, he's a bucket. He's out there to get buckets. That's that's what he's
00:49:44meant to do Cooper flags a ballplayer and he's gonna have his fingers on everything and
00:49:49He's gonna be trying to impact the game in every type of way
00:49:53Khan canipal is out there to score and I wouldn't be surprised if he's allegiance
00:49:57I wouldn't be surprised if he averages like 21 a game or something and and Cooper's like 19. Yeah
00:50:021775 yeah something like that has there
00:50:05These two freshmen that is going to they are going to lead Duke
00:50:09are they good enough to lead them to a national champion, I don't know I
00:50:13What I I still think what I said earlier or I said last show about Duke is going to be true
00:50:18Which is I think Tyrese Proctor who played well, he played he played he played fine
00:50:23last night three four five from three and
00:50:27You know one turnover and you know, he was he was he was already they don't really need a ton from him right now
00:50:32but um, I think he's he's going him and Caleb Foster, especially but but I think it's Tyrese Proctor are the two guys that are gonna
00:50:40Be the difference for them because I do think they're gonna be games where they need to lean on the veterans. They need
00:50:45They need almost like steel wins, you know, like they're they just need like
00:50:51Shots aren't falling foul trouble just just crazy shit's going on and you need guys that can
00:50:57just
00:50:58Calm everything down and and I don't know if those two guys can be it because they have been up and down throughout their career
00:51:04So hopefully this year has there been a team like
00:51:07What freshmen have led like group of freshmen have lead led their team to NCAA championships?
00:51:13Like I know you played on Ohio State team two great freshmen. These aren't uh, uh
00:51:20Kentucky okay, Anthony Davis was the one
00:51:23Um
00:51:25Was I really the only one I'm just trying to like close my eyes and think in March
00:51:29Are we gonna be talking about yeah, two white freshmen have led
00:51:34Their team to the national. Yeah, I mean it was it was Kentucky
00:51:38That was that's the team Kentucky in 2012 Anthony Davis. Are these boys on Anthony Davis watch?
00:51:44The hype for Cooper flag. That's true. Any Davis level I will say and I'll say this. I think conca nipples better than
00:51:50Kid Gilchrist and Marcus Teague and
00:51:54Conca nipples is a better basketball player than anybody. He's Anthony Davis at as a psychic
00:51:59I feel like Anthony Davis Anthony Davis is your Kentucky was that was that's that's that might be the that is
00:52:06It's like the best one and done season of all time and that's gonna be hard to top and he didn't score a ton
00:52:10But like holy shit the impact he had defensively was was crazy. I think
00:52:15Yeah, I think Duke's gonna Duke is gonna have the talent in the end
00:52:18But um, they can't it can't just be those two guys
00:52:21It's gonna have to be Procter and Foster and the rest of the bench by the way
00:52:23My guy Mason Gillis that I said with 50%
00:52:26Two for four from three. I'm telling you and there will be a game where he hits eight of four. I'm telling you
00:52:32Eight might be a stretch really eight of fourteen from three. You don't think
00:52:36Might be a stretch. I think there will be a game where he will I I said he's gonna hit five
00:52:42threes
00:52:44He's gonna have a 5-3 game
00:52:46Yeah, he hit nine last year he did not he did hit nine last year
00:52:50I think I think he will hit I put me down for five
00:52:53And there will only there will be one to three games that he hits five threes
00:52:56I went to three we don't need to go back and forth one on this
00:53:00I will take the over five as his season high
00:53:04Shooter shoot, dude. I think oh, yeah, he might have I'm yeah. Yeah, I think we're saying the same thing
00:53:10We're both complimenting Mason Gillis. We're just trying to figure out a way to to package that kind
00:53:14I may have been overreacting with eight. I
00:53:17Retract to six. I don't think he's gonna get eight off
00:53:19I don't think there's gonna be a game where I guess my thing is you're saying at some point in the season the two freshmen
00:53:24Aren't going to have like they're going to need
00:53:27Something right their supporting cast having a career 41% three-point shooter is one of those is a pretty good that need to step up
00:53:33Yeah
00:53:35Speaking of Mason Gillis. I want to talk about the team that he he played on last year
00:53:39You were locked in I was locked in on Purdue
00:53:41They were they were interested the first half Purdue was so fun
00:53:46They were Myles Colvin was was hitting everything. He is he's a guy. I'm really excited to see
00:53:52Take the next step and I feel like this is this is obviously the year for him to do that
00:53:56But also he's coming off the bench, which I didn't I wasn't paying enough attention to Purdue in the preseason
00:54:00Apparently, I just assumed Myles Colvin was gonna start. He only played 17 minutes. I don't know. Does Matt Painter hate him?
00:54:06I don't know what's going on. He was four for seven from three. He is
00:54:09If
00:54:11If it's not him, it might be cam. Heidi. I he's probably the best athlete on the team
00:54:16He's a freak athlete. He was was hitting all the shots. I don't fully understand
00:54:22Why Myles Colvin didn't play more for Purdue, but that first half they were hitting everything
00:54:27Braden Smith with turnovers were a problem turnovers are that's gonna be the thing with Purdue all season and it's been a thing
00:54:33honestly, really since since Braden Smith and Fletcher lawyer got there is
00:54:37This idea that that long athletic guards can swallow them up we saw it happen the national championship
00:54:43Now there produce not gonna have to play very many teams if any team this year
00:54:48That's gonna have the the the guard play that UConn had last year
00:54:51So it's you don't really need to worry that much about it. But at the same time over the course of their career
00:54:55it's not a
00:54:57Consistent pattern but it is a little bit of a pattern that that that when these guys
00:55:02And I'm not just stereotyping because they're they're not the tallest strongest guys and they're white dudes from Indiana like this
00:55:08it is a serious concern when
00:55:11They get athleticism and they get pressured a little bit
00:55:14They can't throw the ball all over the gym a little bit and you start to worry now in the past
00:55:19Zack Edie's been a hell of a release valve that when when you're you're running around shitting your pants
00:55:25You can just throw it into him and have him dunk it and teams have to always be wary of that
00:55:29Like you can't pressure too much because you got Edie down by the basket just waiting there
00:55:33So we got to kind of pull back to guard him, but you know, there's always that balance. Um, so I'm curious this year how much
00:55:41I'm just curious what that's gonna look like and how and how defenses approach Purdue, but having said that
00:55:47Purdue went ice-cold in the second half shooting threes, and I think that was more the story
00:55:50They were hitting everything in the first half. They go ice-cold. They ended up winning by 17. So it wasn't like
00:55:56You know
00:55:57But it wasn't like they almost got upset last night
00:56:00But you know anybody that was watching that game and five minutes of play
00:56:03It was a little dicey the three-point game was 643 to play. Yeah, and I I'm slightly concerned about defense
00:56:09I'm slightly concerned like Braden Smith's gonna lead the country and assist. I have no doubt about what a stat line
00:56:13They're gonna they're gonna surround him with shooters
00:56:15He is going to just have the ball in his hands and just play like, you know
00:56:19He doesn't have Edie there anymore
00:56:21But they have like three fucking seven footers that they they cycle around
00:56:25he's going to get a bunch of high ball screens and dictate the offense and he's gonna he's
00:56:29He's one of the best passers in the country, but turnovers are a problem and I'm worried about I'm worried about Purdue
00:56:35Going up against size and athleticism and Corpus Christi had that and they wanted to try to swallow those guys up
00:56:41and they're not even
00:56:44They're not even you know, one of the better teams at Purdue's gonna play
00:56:47I think that was the the concern if we're overreacting. How would you say so obviously?
00:56:53Literally and figuratively, you know, they've got big shoes to fill with Zack Edie being gone. They do have the 7-4 freshman
00:56:58He had 13 and 7 last night. How did he fill in? How is the guy?
00:57:03I for that well impressed he's still going to so the thing with Braden Smith was
00:57:08The the critics I would say Braden Smith was a Zack Edie merchant the whole reason that he was he had a good season
00:57:13Last year's because he uses ball screens
00:57:16The big it was Edie's roll into the basket like this is the the stereotypical play for produce a is
00:57:23Braden Smith comes off a ball screen Edie rolls
00:57:25He the gravity from Zack Edie roll into the basket brings everybody in Braden Smith's like I'm gonna get to my spot
00:57:31I hit the Chris Paul elbow jump shot where you're kind of fading away a little bit
00:57:34And that's just like what his shot was and he was very very good at them and you know
00:57:39There were there was concern
00:57:41I guess that maybe without Edie there is he gonna be able to get these shots off as you'd be able to run the
00:57:45Offense, I will say having seven footers
00:57:48multiple
00:57:50Setting high ball screens and rolling even though they're not as skilled as Edie even though they're not as dominant as Edie
00:57:54It does sort of have the same impact at least from one night now
00:57:58we'll see when big tens schedules roll around and you have guys that uh, you know match up better against
00:58:04The Purdue big men and all that and they don't maybe need to worry so much about a seven foot four guy rolling the basket
00:58:11But yeah last night. I was like, yeah, they're gonna be he's gonna be fine in that regard
00:58:14like the ball screen as it turns out, uh
00:58:18Zack Edie is was good at setting ball screens, but
00:58:22Also, if you're seven foot four and fucking massive and take up a bunch of space
00:58:25You're probably gonna be pretty good at setting ball screens as well
00:58:28And creating some open opportunities for Braden Smith. So I think I think he's gonna
00:58:34That's what they're gonna expect out of produce big men is that they're not gonna be dumping the ball into them and expecting post moves
00:58:39They're gonna expect rebounds. They're gonna expect set screens for Braden at the top of the key
00:58:43And and I think they're gonna be fine in that regard
00:58:47But I I think like losing Lance Jones is gonna be a problem for them
00:58:50I think I don't know that they're gonna be a very interesting team and I feel like being ranked 14th
00:58:55Makes a lot of sense because I think if you if you squint one way you can see a very very good Purdue team that
00:59:01Can that can space the floor shoot a lot of threes and they have a cohesive group of guys that have played a lot of
00:59:06basketball together
00:59:07In great culture, you kind of look at the the warts and you're like, ah, you know
00:59:12I could see this going poorly in some aspects as well. Yeah
00:59:16I think Cody last week had us submit our top 10 teams
00:59:19You didn't have Purdue in your top 10, but when we talk about the big 10
00:59:24They're always the first name off your list. Yeah. Yeah, there's two did your stock rise fall?
00:59:29Is it exactly the same after I I it's exactly the same. I think Purdue is gonna be a b-plus team all season
00:59:35I think that's what we're gonna they're never gonna be that bad
00:59:38But I I would be surprised if there are moments where you're like, oh this team can go back to the final four
00:59:45I don't think we'll ever really see I don't think they're sealing. I think they're a high floor low ceiling team
00:59:49Okay, like I just think that they'll be I feel like what's like a big time. That's what you've been saying
00:59:55They'll be ranked between like 10th and 25th all season
00:59:58And they'll have a respectable year and probably make the sweet 16 and lose and that'll be it and you know
01:00:04And you'll be like, yeah, it was a fine season. It was a fine season. But um, yeah, I
01:00:09You know if they could space the floor and play all the shooters
01:00:14III gotta figure out what's going on miles Colvin. I gotta make some phone calls
01:00:17I don't understand how he played 17 minutes. Yeah, that's that's interesting to me because he
01:00:22He was their best player in the first half. Well, Braden was probably the best player, but he was he was hitting everything and
01:00:28Yeah, I don't know what exactly happened because when I was watching it wasn't like he was
01:00:31It wasn't like he was turning the ball over making dumb mistakes, it wasn't like
01:00:36You know as far as I know, he's not a he's not a bozo off the court
01:00:40Maybe he is I don't know. Are you are you impacted at all? Because he's from Indianapolis. Is this is this?
01:00:45I love my indie kids
01:00:46Yeah, this might be but then again you look at his stat line it tells me he should be playing more basketball than what?
01:00:51He did. Yeah. No, he's a freak athlete. So he's uh, they have I can't believe I can't believe these fuckers have oh
01:00:59The the Burgess kid the freshman is they list him at 611
01:01:04But Berg is is 7 2 I think and Jacobson 7 4
01:01:09Yeah, so they're just gonna be a rotating cast of
01:01:147 footers, but but I why do they have so many? Why do I don't know should everyone else recruit some 7 footers. I
01:01:21Don't yeah, why not? Why why?
01:01:24But I I I I also think that they're out there just to sort of
01:01:30Take up space and sets great. I don't know. I did the Edie was an anomaly
01:01:33he was actually skilled and right and
01:01:36You could you could lean on him heavily. I don't think they're gonna do that with these guys, but
01:01:40Yeah, produce gonna be fascinating produce gonna be a fascinating team, but I brain Smith 15 assists and six turnovers
01:01:47Again, you want to look at the assists? You're like, yeah, that's the best passer in college basketball
01:01:51You want to look at the turnovers? You're like yikes that guy cannot handle
01:01:55Athleticism and you know being pressured a little bit and I think both are probably true
01:02:00I think both are gonna end up being true and that's what's gonna make them fascinating all your

01:03:33What else uh?
01:03:35North Carolina had an interesting game close. It was so they were losing
01:03:417169 with six minutes and 48 seconds left to Elon
01:03:45Now they finished the game 21 to 5 run. So they did I my my concern about
01:03:51Carolina is the freshman did not look great when I watched him against Memphis in the exhibition
01:03:57The freshman did not look great last night against Elon
01:04:00Drake Powell had a stretch
01:04:02where he
01:04:04That he had one stretch in the first half where he looked pretty good
01:04:08Did he did he did he hit a three and then get a steal and in a bucket?
01:04:11I think like all five all right. There's like all right in the right in the moment right in one little stretch
01:04:17but they need they're gonna need these freshmen to step up because I
01:04:20The the fact that this was it was a 14 point game
01:04:23Like you said they pulled away late, but it was close
01:04:26it was close throughout the game to where it felt like a
01:04:31You know like you kind of felt like you saw where Hubert Davis's head was at with with rotations and whatnot and
01:04:37I
01:04:38I'm worried that that Hubert's gonna go back to his iron 5 bullshit
01:04:42and he's just gonna like tighten the rotations and
01:04:44The the five guys that started are gonna be the five guys we see from Carolina who I think are good players
01:04:49but like I don't I
01:04:51They need the freshman it like the Carolina season is gonna hinge on the freshman RJ Davis had 24
01:04:55He was 3 for 11 didn't didn't shoot 3 as well, but he still gets his points
01:04:59That's a classic RJ Davis game is like kind of chucking a little bit
01:05:03But also you look around the rest of the roster and he's like that's kind of what I need to do for us to win
01:05:09Not that not that they're bad and they don't have scores
01:05:11But that's just like how that's that's what RJ Davis is he scores 24 points, but he goes 3 for 11
01:05:16He also has 7 assists. He's it's a good game, but it's also like yeah, not the most efficient game in the world. Um, I
01:05:23I think they need the freshman dude. That's just where I keep coming back to is is I
01:05:27I I don't Jalen Withers hit a couple threes. That was that was pretty shocking to be honest
01:05:32He had four threes all last season. He had two last night
01:05:36Washington is is a project still I really like he's an indie kid by the way or not in Indianapolis. He's an Indiana kid
01:05:42Um, I really like his potential but he still feels like a little bit of a project and I just I'm just worried that like
01:05:49if the freshmen don't develop like they want him to and and if Tyson who's
01:05:53Supposed to be the knockdown shooter for them and he goes over three from three
01:05:58Like I'm worried Hubert's gonna have a short lease with these guys and we're just gonna see 35 minutes a game from like the iron
01:06:03five again, which you know led them to a national championship, but it also I
01:06:08Was I was excited about this Carolina team coming out of the the Memphis exhibition is RJ Davis didn't play in that and then now
01:06:14all of a sudden I'm like fuck did I just
01:06:16Lose all that goodwill. Yeah, they're the Carolina lose all the goodwill
01:06:19They're the only top 10 team yesterday and let's Cody remember this for next year. Please remind us
01:06:25Hammer the top 10 teams in their opener the top 10 last night just dominated the games that they were supposed to dominate
01:06:32Except for UNC UNC. Yeah one who played a close game
01:06:35And Elon not a great team. They were under 500 last year. So it just yeah, I don't know
01:06:41That's the one team that there are a lot of question marks surrounding in the top 10. Yeah, I
01:06:47I don't overreact to one game, but that's that's gonna be that like the they have they have two five-star freshmen and
01:06:54They got 29 combined minutes out of them and 10 combined points out of them and it's their first game ever and I entered you
01:07:00Know you got to be patient. Yeah, but everyone else's first game ever. That's the problem is this freshman class is so good
01:07:05You're looking around the rest of the country and you're like I I might need more from these guys
01:07:08I might need more from these guys and especially I'll say this to like Carolina recruiting has been interesting the last
01:07:15I
01:07:16Don't know how many years but Carolina recruiting has kind of fallen off like they they've just had like weird vibes around the recruiting
01:07:24To where they they finally get some some talented guys
01:07:29That I don't know
01:07:31to top 15 players in the class in this class that is and they need to hit on these guys because they're
01:07:37yeah, the last few years care like the Carolina recruiting pipeline is
01:07:42Not as strong as you would expect it to be for a program of that stature and I'm not really sure why yeah
01:07:47I was gonna say, what do you think? I don't know. This is Carolina when I didn't really think about it. I was cool
01:07:51Yeah, I didn't really but but like Duke's getting all the five stars in the
01:07:56Yeah, I don't know what's going on. I don't know. I don't I to be honest
01:08:01I didn't really recognize it until I just now was talking about these two freshmen. I was like it's been
01:08:06It's been kind of a consistent. I'm trying to I'm trying to think of the last time Carolina had like
01:08:11You know the the blue chip guy leading the way for him. I don't know. Uh
01:08:18What else um, I would say this broad broad observation around the country a lot of a lot of scoring a lot of high-scoring
01:08:24Games a lot of shots being made you were knocking on it in the offseason
01:08:28You were saying everyone's talking about how they're playing fast
01:08:30Everyone's Titus a lot of they're playing fast a lot of fast a lot of
01:08:35Excuse me. A lot of teams playing fast a lot of teams in shots
01:08:38There were I think 40 teams that scored 100 points. That's yesterday. I think around 40 team 39
01:08:43Maybe scored a hundred point. That's crazy
01:08:44No, some of them were playing like, you know, the little sisters of the poor or whatever wouldn't Gordon
01:08:49Do you remember when he said that a little sister? Yeah, he was you know trouble for that. I know I did. Yeah
01:08:54Was that when you were in school might have been a lot of some of these schools are there are playing like, you know
01:09:00Any any time you pull up your score app and it doesn't have a logo
01:09:03Yeah, that's pretty interesting but uh, you know, there's a lot of high-scoring games a lot of fun offenses one team that I haven't talked about yet
01:09:10that I want to talk about speaking of high-scoring offenses and
01:09:14Teams, I'm very very high on
01:09:17the Kentucky Wildcats
01:09:20I'm very high on and I'm high on them because I'm very high on Mark Pope as a coach and
01:09:24They play a ton of guys. They had I think six guys in double figures and a seventh scored eight points
01:09:31They had how many assisted they have that already think they had 30 assists to seven turnovers
01:09:3730 assists seven turnovers. They hit 11 threes shot 46% from the field rights that they beat Wright State by 41
01:09:44I think they were favored by like 20
01:09:46So again, you you have to apply context and say like, you know, they blew out a team
01:09:51They were supposed to blow out but at the same time there they they won by 40 right it won by 40 scored
01:09:55103 points and they're sharing the ball
01:09:58And they're sharing the ball they're pushing tempo, they're they're very very deep
01:10:04Kobe Bray might be the best shooter in the country if not for Juni, you know
01:10:09But yeah, they got dudes and I I am fascinated or drawn to I should say that's a better way to put it
01:10:14I'm drawn to teams that have the depth that have the pace that have the shooting which is why
01:10:20Alabama is like, you know the team that you keep coming back to is the best team in the country
01:10:24So and and that's why I like in zag it's like they're bringing dudes off the bench that that can contribute and can can
01:10:30Provide flexibility with lineups and all that sort of thing
01:10:34Those those teams are the ones that stand out to me and that's why that's why I love this Kentucky
01:10:38I don't know their top-end talent. Like I don't know
01:10:44Yeah, I
01:10:46Don't know like do do they have how many how many future NBA players they have on this roster?
01:10:51Do they have how many how many future NBA players they have on this roster and that might ultimately be their problem?
01:10:56But I will say that that the way they play is very very fun
01:11:00and I think there's some serious juice to the Kentucky program with
01:11:04With Mark Pope and and and that's fascinating to me because again the high-profile coach that was there leaves
01:11:12And you hire a guy that you know nationally isn't super well known to one of the best programs in the country
01:11:17And I think his start went as well as anyone could have expected
01:11:20So, how do you think that plays out in the future?
01:11:22Because it's it's a huge contrast of what Kentucky has been to what they are now like right now
01:11:27They're not top-end talent, but they move the ball really well
01:11:30Yeah, and they're really well coached. Is he gonna start getting top-end talent because he's Kentucky and because he's a good coach. I
01:11:37I hope he I hope he doesn't just
01:11:41Blindly take the five stars or the mock draft guys
01:11:45And I'd like to think he's smart enough to like identify his guys that fit his style of play because I think
01:11:52That is way more important than than people think it is is like to find
01:11:57Like if every coach if you are if a five-star calls you a top five recruit calls you and is like I want to play
01:12:02For you every coach is gonna say sure right not every coach is going to be
01:12:06Super fucking excited about it like there are there every coach is gonna be like we have to take this guy
01:12:10But I don't know how many coaches
01:12:12There are going to be some coaches that once he gets on campus once he's in the program. They're like
01:12:17Gotta be honest. I would have rather had like you know
01:12:21Two or three four stars that'll grind their dicks off and move the ball and all that sort of thing
01:12:25And that's not that's not to say every five stars that way
01:12:27But I I think that you have to be careful with who you bring in and not just get enamored by recruiting rankings
01:12:33So I'm hoping he's still
01:12:35He still uses some
01:12:37discretion with that
01:12:39But to answer your question more broadly yes, I do think that the talent will come
01:12:44I think that like the the proof of concept will be there and then the Kentucky big blue machine behind them
01:12:50Will get the he's never gonna recruit on the level cow was right
01:12:54I mean he does have he has a top 15 point guard top 15 player in next year's class. That's his top
01:13:00Yeah, yeah, I was getting
01:13:02Multiple yeah, like for top 50 players, but but I don't think he needs that though
01:13:07I think I think if you if you create a culture offensively
01:13:11Where yeah, you're you're you're running and gunning and shooting with confidence and making play like it was it was crazy to see I
01:13:18was watching a little bit of the game and
01:13:20Just the way they're pushing tempo and the way they spread the floor and the run the floor, right?
01:13:25It's not just that they run the floor
01:13:27it's how they run the floor and everyone's running with spacing in mind and
01:13:30It's beautiful to watch and I really like Mark Pope, and I think he's an awesome dude, too
01:13:34So I'm excited about can Titus a week from tonight a week from tonight
01:13:38Kentucky Duke
01:13:40It's gonna be good I'd have to be we play Buckeyes play Kentucky by the way in December in New York Madison Square Garden
01:13:49Think about um anything else I missed I need to talk UCF upset Texas A&M
01:13:54Storm the court you had a problem that
01:13:56You I don't have a problem with storm the court. You had the perfect response
01:14:00I do have a problem with storm the court because oh, no. No, I'm I love no Titus
01:14:05Don't paint me to be this this curmudgeon. I'm a big storm the court guy
01:14:11When it is time to storm the court, they were five point
01:14:16Underdogs yesterday against a team. That's okay, Texas A&M is okay
01:14:23They're ranked 13th their season. Yeah, I would storm the court every game. I would I couldn't argue that so fun, dude
01:14:29I said Titus you stormed the court. Did you storm the court in college?
01:14:33Did they storm the court on your senior night? They did. Yeah, I stormed the court. Well, you're there. Hell, yeah, dude
01:14:38Come on
01:14:40Respected I stormed the field. I'm a feel I'm a feel I'm a storm the capital
01:14:44I know but I was think so. I've stormed the field the capital. No, um, I
01:14:49I really enjoy it. But I think when you do it too much, I think it waters it down
01:14:55Yeah, but I don't think they're doing it too much
01:14:59I like I if if we look up and UCF has won six games at home and they've stormed the court five times
01:15:05I think you might have a conversation about doing it too much. I just I
01:15:09Doubt that's gonna happen though five. I think I think it's I don't know you think about it
01:15:12I think that's the joy the the court storm is you don't even think about it. You're just like holy fuck. This was awesome
01:15:17Let's go celebrate. Yeah, that's fair. I guess my thing UCF. Here's my message to you
01:15:23Storm the court on Friday against Fort Wayne and then like if you're gonna storm you want them to storm every time
01:15:28I want you to storm until they say I can't storm anymore
01:15:32Just keep storming. Um
01:15:34There are the Cavs the best team in the NBA by the way. I've
01:15:37Tried to tell you this save it. We're gonna I need you to do mostly sports brain is not gonna be okay
01:15:41We'll talk about our most important. Let's say the Cavs for mostly for I want to
01:15:45He's silencing me again to our listeners. Um
01:15:48All right. I think that's it
01:15:50No games tonight election
01:15:54Wednesday I think a handful of teams
01:15:56play Rutgers
01:15:58Rutgers basketball Rutgers
01:16:01Khan opens up Arkansas. I think Indiana we get our first look at, Indiana
01:16:06and
01:16:07Then Friday's a big one Carolina, Kansas Carolina at Kansas and a lot of good ones this weekend. So we'll be back
01:16:14Friday are we doing Friday Friday morning Friday morning. We'll be back Friday morning
01:16:18Talk more ball, dude
01:16:20That's what I'm excited to have basketball back in my life and I'm excited to have Juney mobile in my life
01:16:25I'm excited to have the Buckeyes back
01:16:27we might if we
01:16:28I'm gonna say this and I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna leave our
01:16:32Listeners and our viewers with this. I I will do all I can to not make this an Ohio State show, but um, I
01:16:39I
01:16:41Had I can't hide when I'm excited about certain things and last night. I got very excited. So I
01:16:46Moving forward I will not break. I promised you we will not be breaking down every Ohio State basketball game to that degree
01:16:53But if the Buckeyes continue to play like they have been playing and by have I have been playing
01:16:59I mean one game into the season
01:17:02I'm gonna be putting a tough spot because all my instincts are gonna be like I just want to I
01:17:07Just I'm going I'm so so delighted watching the play
01:17:10So delighted watching the play ultimately situs it comes down to if you don't want the other team to celebrate
01:17:16Don't let them if you don't want us to talk Ohio State basketball
01:17:20Someone's got someone's got to beat us. We have we play at A&M and then the schedule gets a little easier Evansville Campbell Green Bay
01:17:27Oh, we got Green Bay at home channel. Golly. Golly stuck around a little bit sweaty. Got well sweaty, dude, but he was uh,
