00:00Nightly greetings one and all, Sharmza Spina here, homegrown and happy to bring you PTV
00:08News Now.
00:09Tops on our stories this evening.
00:12If jobs, jobs, jobs is the cure-all pill to the country's economic woes, this piece of
00:17legislation may be the dash of sweetener to help the medicine go down.
00:22Earlier today, the president led the ceremonial signing of Republic Act 12063, where the Enterprise
00:28Based in Education Training Framework in Malacañang, with members of the Senate, House, and Cabinet
00:34on hand to witness the historic enactment.
00:38The EBET law seeks to re-skill, up-skill, or train Filipinos in vocational courses or
00:42professional trades to be more capable of the demands and work standards of international
00:47employers and earn better pay.
00:50This educational immersion or continuing professional development aims to get Filipino workers up
00:55to speed with new and evolving technologies, and also meet professional requirements for
01:00employment.
01:01The newly enacted law fits into the government's policy of regulating and consolidating enterprise
01:07based training under a single framework.
01:10Senate President Francis Chief Escudero said it best that the country's labor market cannot
01:15remain idle or stagnant because of a rapidly changing global labor market.
01:22At a news overseas, it was front and center and at the top of its campaign agenda, curbing
01:28illegal immigration and fixing the crises at the U.S. southern border.
01:33When President-elect Donald Trump begins his first day of office on January 20 next year,
01:38he will surely issue an executive order to put or greatly limit the entry of immigrants,
01:43legal or illegal, coming from the southern border.
01:46Trump was one of his repeated promises during the campaign trail to begin the mass deportation
01:51of illegal immigrants staying in the U.S.
01:54Then again, the logistics alone will present a huge problem, and so are the ramifications
01:59on the informal economy in which homegrown Americans cannot be relied on to fill out
02:04or bridge the gap.
02:08At this moment, let's turn to my colleague in PTV's Baguio City Studios for what's hot
02:12of late in the Cordilleras.
02:14Audrey?
02:15Good morning Philippines, the quick response team of the Department of Social Welfare and
02:20Development Cordillera is on alert to monitor and respond to the effects of the Cordillera
02:25earthquake.
02:28According to the agency, more than 186 families were affected, including 500 individuals,
02:35including 22 barangays in the province of Abra, the Payaoan Mountain Province.
02:40Many were evacuated to evacuation centers.
02:43The agency has allocated P73,000 for aid to the affected, P105 million for stockpiling,
02:51P44,000 for available food packs, P19,000 for prepositions for the LGU's region, P25,000
03:00for non-food items, and P2 million for a standby fund for the DSWD.
03:06The agency hopes that this will help the affected as much as possible.
03:12We are ready 24x7 here in the DSWD.
03:17When it comes to our stockpiles, I am sure that our stockpiles are full here in the region,
03:25in different warehouses, in six provinces and two cities.
03:30The construction of the Camp 6 Canon Road has already started, while the earthquake has
03:37already passed.
03:42The solution provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways Cordillera is to
03:45increase the landslide in the area because of the earthquake.
03:50The action was taken by Marcos Highway in 2000.
03:55The DPWH Cordillera Director, Kadhafi Tangol, said that the earthquake was caused by the
04:01work that was done in November.
04:05The Cannon Road was closed due to the earthquake.
04:08The contractor was forced to close the road because of the earthquake.
04:12The road was closed due to the earthquake.
04:19Because of the earthquake, the road was in unstable condition.
04:25The mountain slopes were damaged by the landslides, rockslides, and road slips.
04:32Many thanks, Audrey, and that's all she wrote for tonight's show.
04:43Join us again tomorrow for a recap of the stories here at home and abroad in the week
04:48that just passed.
04:49And always stay connected by catching the news right here.
