00:00Yeah, it's been a long time coming.
00:07How does it feel?
00:10I think I feel a great sense of pride, both in the process and pride and relief.
00:16Like, I'm really proud of how the film has come out.
00:21I think it's a really, really great film.
00:23And we've started to kind of see audiences' responses
00:27as we've kind of slowly started showing people, particularly in the US.
00:31So we're now just kind of excited for it to enter the world.
00:43Approach it the same way you approach everything else.
00:48For me to change that now, like going into Gladiator,
00:53I think would have been a mistake.
00:55I think you pay homage to the first one by doing that.
01:01Does that make sense?
01:02You can only pay homage to it by...
01:04An audience will apply that correlation to the first film,
01:09but it's my job to kind of treat Gladiator 2 like it's my Gladiator 1,
01:14if that makes sense.
01:16How was the training?
01:21Yeah, the training was kind of...
01:24was standard, but it was consistent.
01:27It was lots of weightlifting,
01:29lots of being disciplined with food that I ate.
01:33And then the challenges were kind of no matter how much training you do,
01:37it was very hot when we were filming a lot of those fight scenes.
01:41So it was difficult, to say the least.
01:45What is the film about?
01:49Yeah, I think politically the film is very current.
01:52Like you look at what's going on around the world,
01:56in the Middle East, in the US.
01:58It's like the world...
02:00History always has a... always repeats itself.
02:03And I think the message in this film,
02:06but on a kind of microcosmic level,
02:09is one of forgiveness.
02:10It's about a son forgiving his mother.
02:14But it's also about...
02:18having the capacity to have your opinions changed,
02:21and being brave, that if you have something to stand for,
02:24you should stand fully behind it.
02:26What is the most memorable film?
02:30Yeah, I think obviously you've got the incredible industry of Bollywood,
02:34and Aurora was the same year that I was up for Oscars.
02:38So it was like...
02:40I think the thing that is important to me, more broadly,
02:44is global cinema.
02:46Like the fact that regardless of where you are in the world,
02:50it's a central part to a lot of people's lives.
02:54And also it's great to see films not just from the US and the UK
02:59and Italy and France breaking into a kind of...
03:02onto a world platform.
03:03Like the more cultures that we get to experience,
03:06the more I think we're educated as people.
03:10What do you think of the characters?
03:14It's a compliment, but also I think it's like...
03:17I think when people encounter the film,
03:19they'll obviously see the similarities,
03:22but I think, I've said this time and time again,
03:25the characters to me are very different fundamentally.
03:29They have a very different relationship to what Rome is.
03:32And yeah, but that's ultimately not for me to kind of decide.
03:37That's something for an audience to discuss.
