00:00The Department of Agriculture, or DA, announced that starting next week,
00:04Metro Manila consumers can buy well-milled and regular rice for 43 pesos per kilogram.
00:10Rice sellers in Metro Manila have agreed to lower prices.
00:14This follows a meeting with Agriculture Secretary Francisco Lorel Jr.
00:18to address high retail prices despite lower import tax.
00:23Importers have reduced prices to about 38 pesos per kilo,
00:27but retailers were adding markups.
00:30Undersecretary Roger Navarro said retailers will sell well-milled rice
00:35for around 42 pesos per kilo, helping make rice more affordable, especially for poor families.
00:42DA Assistant Secretary Arnel De Mesa also said they will increase monitoring
00:47of 30 markets from Monday to Saturday to ensure cheaper rice remains available.
