00:56Hello and welcome from the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Television Studios
01:00in Havana, Cuba.
01:02We begin with the news.
01:03In Peru, workers launched a 72-hour national strike against Lina Boluarte's government
01:07due to high levels of criminalities that affect the country's social stability.
01:11Starting this Wednesday, workers of the transportation sector, merchants and union groups joined the
01:16strike to demand measures against crime, which affects entrepreneurs of all sectors.
01:21Those mobilized reject the crime law promoted by Boluarte's administration, which favors
01:25delinquency and the urban terrorism law.
01:28In the last year, 17,000 complaints of extortion and 2,000 cases of homicide were registered
01:34at national level without receiving any attention from the authorities.
01:44In Argentina, the third federal educational march was held this November 12th.
01:48Students, teachers and other members of the educational community marched in several points
01:52of the country to defend the public university and demand an increase in the educational
01:56budget.
01:57The mobilization sought to make visible the critical salary and budgetary situation that
02:01public education is going through, in view of the lack of funding caused by the government
02:06of Javier Millet, who vetoed the university financing law.
02:09In Buenos Aires, several sectors such as health and aeronautics supported the measure.
02:14In the vicinity of the Ovalisco, the demonstrators were intimidated by a huge and disproportionate
02:20presence of police.
02:29The university is coming from a very hard year.
02:31The government has been attacking and destroying education at all levels.
02:35Not only in the university, but it is something generalized.
02:39Even we who have an artistic background, we see an attack that is also widespread in education,
02:44in culture and even in health, as well as in all areas.
02:47It is a government that is coming for everything, and we are coming from a year in which we
02:51have organized ourselves with different measures of all kinds, such as this flash move.
02:57In El Salvador, family members demand proof of life of prisoners under the emergency regime
03:01established on March 22, 2022, by the government of Nayib Bukele.
03:06Through the Proof of Life campaign, hundreds of Salvadoran families are demanding authorities
03:09to inform about the status of many people detained without clear evidence or valid charges.
03:15The lack of access to prisoners and prohibition of visits has contributed to their uncertainty,
03:20since they do not know where their family members are, or even if they are alive.
03:24According to reports from different human rights organizations, approximately 30,000
03:28of the 83,000 detainees are innocent.
03:38The United Nations temporarily suspended the delivery of humanitarian aid in Haiti due
03:43to the deteriorating security situation in the country.
03:46Humanitarian flights had to be suspended after the Haitian government decreed the closure
03:49of the Toussaint Louverture Airport.
03:51The decision came after criminal groups opened fire at an aircraft.
03:56The plane, with 48 people on board, had to be rerouted to the Dominican city of Santiago,
04:01and subsequently JetBlue reported another attack against one of its aircraft.
04:04As a result, the UN had to delay the movement of 20 truckloads of critical medicines and
04:10supplies, and is now contemplating moving its air operations to an airport in the north
04:14of the country.
04:22A new wave of violence generated by armed criminal groups spread through Haiti on Monday
04:27amid great political instability, culminating in the replacement of Prime Minister Gary
04:32the details in the following report by our colleague Charlotte Lafour.
04:40Empty streets, silent schools, closed stores, Port-au-Prince residents woke up on Monday
04:45with the warning to stay at home, as gunfire began to reverberate in several neighborhoods
04:50of the city.
04:52In the afternoon, a Spirit Airlines commercial flight was hit by gunfire and had to divert
04:56its route, which led to the suspension of air traffic over the capital.
05:01This explosion of violence occurred on the day of the nomination of the new Prime Minister,
05:06Alex Didier Fils-Aime.
05:08In his first speech, Fils-Aime stressed the urgency of resolving the problems of insecurity
05:13and freedom of movement in the country.
05:23The first essential task that will determine the success of the transition is to reestablish
05:31the security of people, property and infrastructure, food security, and freedom of movement throughout
05:40the country.
05:43The United Nations, for their part, called on the country's political forces to overcome
05:47their differences and move towards the restoration of order.
05:50They also called on member states to collaborate with security operations on the island.
05:53The first remains a critical to that end.
05:57The Secretary General appeals to all member states to sustain and increase their security
06:02support for Haiti, including through multi-national security support mission, ensuring that it
06:07receives the financial support it needs to successfully implement its mandate and expand
06:13deployment and operations.
06:15In the latest political developments, the Secretary General urges all Haitian stakeholders
06:20to work constructively together to advance the political transition, as agreed upon on
06:25March 11 in Jamaica.
06:27A third and a half of armed gang members are children under the age of 18.
06:37According to the UN, armed gangs now control up to 85% of the capital, imposing a climate
06:42of terror on the population and making the country's democratic transition impossible.
06:46In other news, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump arrived in Washington, D.C. to meet
06:52outgoing President Joe Biden in the White House Oval Office.
06:55Trump's meeting with Biden comes as he moves swiftly to name his top team, including Tesla
07:00and ex-owner Elon Musk as head of a new group aimed at cutting government expenditure.
07:04Biden invited his sworn rival to meet in the Oval Office, despite the fact that Trump,
07:09who has consistently refused to admit his 2020 election loss, never afforded Biden the
07:14same courtesy.
07:15U.S. National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan said Biden will go over top foreign policy
07:20issues when he meets Trump, including U.S. support for Ukraine, which Trump has criticized.
07:25The outgoing president pledged to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power.
07:35And now we have a short break coming up, but first, remember you can join us on TikTok
07:39at TELUS for English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much
07:43more.
07:45Stay with us.
08:09Welcome back.
08:22In Palestine, the Israeli regime killed at least 47 Palestinians and injured more than
08:26180 in its latest attacks on Gaza.
08:28A Palestinian health minister reported 43,712 people killed since the beginning of the Israeli
08:33genocide, with approximately 103,000 wounded.
08:37Florida is pointing out that Israeli forces committed seven massacres against several
08:40families in residential areas, causing hundreds of wounded.
08:44In a report, the United Nations Palestine denounced that at least 70% of civilians killed
08:51by the Israeli attacks are women and children.
08:54Florida is also affirmed the health crisis is worsening with the lack of medical supplies.
09:06On Tuesday, local Palestinian authorities declared that Israeli occupation forces killed
09:10and wounded several Palestinian citizens in the cities of Gaza and Hanjounis.

09:28occupation forces, which left several civilians dead and wounded.
09:35The total burning of the Madya al-Shawa school, where displaced Palestinians were being housed
09:39in Bani Hanoun, north of Gaza.
09:49In Lebanon, authorities registered a new Israeli airstrike in Beirut.
09:53Occupation forces shot down a building and attacked civilian targets in the capital's
09:57Dahiya district.
09:58Before attacking, Israeli troops issued evacuation orders for neighborhoods of Koubeiri and Hared
10:03south of Beirut, or allegedly being Hezbollah resistance movement locations.
10:08The Lebanese authorities have not reported or commented on any casualties.
10:11Only images of the impact of the attack have been broadcast in local media, while Israel
10:16stated that in this second phase of its ground operation, it would destroy Hezbollah's rocket
10:21launching capability.
10:24In Pakistan, a bus veered off the road on Tuesday and it fell into the Indus River at
10:34the Tulsu Bridge, bringing about 14 deaths and 13 missing in Punjab province.
10:39In the Gilgit-Baltistan region, authorities reported that the driver lost control of the
10:44bus due to reaching high speed.
10:47He was taking a bride, a groom and their guests to celebrate a wedding at Jackwell City in
10:52Punjab province.
10:53In addition, reports confirmed 14 deaths, including that of the bride who died at a
10:59nearby hospital from her serious injuries.
11:02Currently, rescue teams are still looking for 12 missing persons, however experts described
11:07as unlikely the chance of any survivors grounded in freezing weather conditions.
11:19In Mozambique, the opposition leader and presidential candidate Venancio Montellain
11:23called for new protests against the alleged fraud committed in the elections of last October
11:289th.
11:29In this sense, he urged his followers to demonstrate in ports, border posts and big cities starting
11:34this Wednesday.
11:35Since October 21st, the presidential aspirant has called for general strike days and mobilizations
11:41against the alleged atrocities in the elections.
11:44Although the election day was calm, the observation mission of the European Union found irregularities
11:51in the counting of votes.
11:52Montellain assures that the objective is not to carry out a coup d'etat but to put pressure
11:57on the institutions of justice so that the electoral truth is restored.
12:09Somaliland, the self-proclaimed independent region of Somalia, kicked off presidential
12:13elections on Wednesday amid regional tensions.
12:16More than one million people will vote in this election process.
12:19Three candidates are running for the presidency, including the country's current president
12:23Moussa Bihi Abdi, who has been in power since 2017 and whose mandate was extended for two
12:29years in 2022 due to alleged technical and financial obstacles.
12:34The elections take place during a diplomatic crisis with Somalia following the agreement
12:39signed last January where the Somaliland government granted Ethiopia access to the
12:43Red Sea.
12:50The World Food Programme, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization and the United
12:54Nations Children's Fund, warned that 33 million Nigerians could face food insecurity by 2025.
13:01The UN entities reported that Nigeria has been hit by record inflation due to climate
13:05crisis and armed conflicts so that other 8 million people would need assistance by
13:112025 compared to the current 25 million people in need.
13:16Likewise, the WFP spokesperson for Nigeria, Sheila Held, assured that 5.4 million children
13:22and 800,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women may suffer from acute malnutrition or wasting.

14:22Welcome back.
14:23In Italy, a report finds that more than 1.2 million children live in poverty and social
14:27exclusion.
14:28According to a report prepared by the Catholic Church's pastoral agency Caritas, in the last
14:3310 years, the percentage of Italian families suffering from poverty and social exclusion
14:37has increased.
14:38In 2014, it went from 6.9% to 9.7%, while in 2023 the figure reached 97.2% only in the
14:46northern industrialized and wealthy areas of the country.
14:50The document proposes the establishment of a universal and continuous support system
14:54to avoid the exclusion of so many people living in absolute poverty in Italy.
15:07In Portugal, Web Summit 2024 has been underway since Monday, November 11th until Thursday,
15:11November 14th in Parque das Nações.
15:15The Lisbon project is a meeting for immigrant entrepreneurs and sets a record of 71,528
15:22participants from 153 countries.
15:24It is worth noticing that women have founded over 44% of the startups.
15:29Furthermore, this is a flagship event which has been taking place every November in the
15:33Portugal capital for over 12 years.
15:36In 2024, Web Summit will host the following encounters.
15:40Web Summit Rio in South America.
15:42Web Summit Qatar in the Middle East.
15:44Coalition and Web Summit Vancouver in North America.
15:48And RISE in Asia.
15:52I'm the founder of the startup Travador.
16:01We use robots to reforest hard-to-reach areas and this is my first time at Web Summit.
16:06And so far, it's been a good experience.
16:09We've spoken to a lot of people who want to form partnerships with us.
16:13Whether they're investors or customers who want to put our machines in the field, it's
16:17all been very productive.
16:22In Indonesia, the Levotovi-Lake Laki volcano spewed more plumes of hot ash into the air
16:39Wednesday following a major eruption that killed at least nine people on November 4th.
16:44During the day, smoke was seen rising from the crater and villages were completely covered
16:48with ash, forcing residents to move to temporary shelters.
16:52Several international airlines suspended flights to and from the island of Bali, keeping thousands
16:57of passengers stranded at the airport.
16:58The volcano, of more than 1,500 meters approximately, is located on the remote island of Flores in
17:04the province of East Nusa Tenggara.
17:08And on Wednesday, India's capital New Delhi, donned cover by a grayish blanket of environmental
17:18pollution that partially prevented visibility, thus becoming the most polluted city in the
17:23world.
17:24According to measurements by the Swiss platform IQ Air, the level of air quality in the Indian
17:29capital is hazardous to health.
17:31A combination of factors such as the burning of agricultural waste, industrial emissions
17:35and adverse weather conditions generate a dense layer of smoke that envelops the city.
17:40Before New Delhi, the Pakistani city of Lahore had topped the ranking of the world's most
17:45polluted cities in recent weeks.
17:53And in Chile, authorities declared a red alert this November 12th due to several simultaneous
17:57outbreaks of forest fires in 51 communes, mainly in the regions of ValparaĂso, Metropitana,
18:03O'Higgins and Maule.
18:05The declaration of a red alert allows the identification of areas that could have a
18:08higher risk of combustion and spread of forest fires.
18:12National Forestry Corporation indicated that so far, the fires have consumed 160 hectares
18:18in the areas of Los Molles, Quilpue and ValparaĂso.
18:22In view of the spread of the forest fires, the evacuation of residents in communes such
18:26as Los Molles, Quilpue and Villa Alemana is being evaluated.
18:37And in Cuba, until Tuesday afternoon, 1,966 aftershocks were registered after the earthquake
18:42that occurred on Sunday in Pilon, Granma province.
18:45According to the Doctor of Science Enrique Arango, head of the National Seismological
18:50Service, 71 replicas were presumably perceptible and the investigators will be able to determine
18:56soon the intensity of the earthquake of magnitude 6.7 on the Richter scale that shook the east
19:01of Cuba more than 48 hours ago.
19:04Cuban Civil Defense Party and government officials toured the provinces affected by
19:08the earthquake.
19:13Cuban authorities reported 10 people injured following the strong earthquakes that hit
19:17the eastern region last Sunday.
19:19Cuba's National Defense Council, led by the country's President Miguel DĂaz-Canel,
19:23held on Tuesday a new session to follow up on the progress made in the recovery after
19:27the seismic event.
19:29During the meeting, a detailed review was made with the authorities of Santiago de Cuba,
19:34Granma, Artemisa, Mayaveque and La Habana on the actions taken in response to damages
19:41caused by the tremors and their aftershocks.
19:44In Granma, 10 people were reported injured and a total of 3,519 infrastructure damage,
19:51of which 54 were total collapses.
20:01And keeping up with the environmental situation in the Caribbean region, the Cuban Meteorological
20:05Service reports the formation of a white sun of low pressures forecasting the formation
20:09of a tropical storm that could become a hurricane.
20:12Sea season will move slowly over the next few days, with a course close to the west
20:17over the Western Caribbean Sea.
20:19There we will find favorable conditions, both atmospheric and at sea, for a better
20:23organization and development, with the high probability of becoming a tropical cyclone
20:28within two or three days.
20:30Since a cyclonic organism has not yet formed, and given the changeable nature of the atmosphere,
20:34neither the trajectory nor the intensity can be predicted with certainty.
20:49For TESTV English, I'm Luis Alberto Matos, thanks for watching.
