00:00In Haiti, members of the Living Together criminal group attacked the Bernard Mapes Hospital
00:17in the capital of the country.
00:22Human rights organization known as Euromed Human Rights Monitor denounced that Israel
00:26is committing urban massacres in Gaza.
00:32Russian Federal Security Service confirmed the arrest of the perpetrator of the terrorist
00:36attack that assassinated General Igor Kirillov and his assistant.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Televisual Studios
00:49in Havana, Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
00:52In Haiti, members of the Living Together criminal group attacked the Bernard Mapes Hospital
00:56in the capital of the country.
00:57The hospital suffered major damage caused by molotov cocktails which hit the facilities.
01:03Authorities reported that the criminal group destroyed rooms, installations and equipment.
01:07In this context, national and local authorities strongly condemned the attack.
01:11In addition, they designated the Haitian National Police to be there.
01:15The latter has been provided with resources to operate on a permanent basis to reinforce
01:20the hospital's security.
01:22Authorities assured that they will put the criminal groups out of action as the people
01:25have been criticizing the government for not having taken measures to prevent the
01:28attack on time.
01:36In Venezuela, representatives of the Comandante Eterno Hugo Chavez Foundation inaugurate a
01:41hall in homage to the first meeting between Hugo Chavez III and the leader of the Cuban
01:45Revolution Fidel Castro Cruz.
01:47The ceremony took place within the framework of the celebration of the 30th anniversary
01:50of this historic moment.
01:52On the same occasion, the newspaper La Esperanza Está en la Calle was presented, which gathers
01:57hundreds of local and national press clippings from 1994 on Comandante Hugo Chavez.
02:03This election is the result of an extensive research carried out by historian Lucas Korner,
02:07who highlighted the love of the Venezuelan people for Comandante Chavez and underlined
02:10the importance of keeping his memory alive to strengthen and expand the Bolivarian Revolution
02:16The commemoration of the death of the liberator brings us together first, and in the framework
02:28of this date, we remember that it was precisely 30 years ago, and for that very reason that
02:34Commander Chavez traveled to Havana for the first time and that first meeting took place.
02:38That first embrace between Commander Chavez and Commander Fidel Castro, and to pay tribute
02:44to a moment that was decisive for what was to be later the course of the history of our
02:48America today, we open the doors of a small but emotional room called the First Embrace
02:52and is dedicated to the love relationship between Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro that
02:57begins with that embrace.
03:00Well, Hope in the Street is a slogan of the commander which came out.
03:09Even when he returned to the street, that was the slogan that went out everywhere.
03:14People started to paint Hope is in the Street, because Chavez at that time said that the
03:18salvation of the people was not in Rafael Caldera, it was not in Miraflores.
03:23He said, I am not going to Miraflores, I'm going to the catacombs of the people.
03:28I'm going to build a revolution together with the people.
03:33In Colombia, the Quinta de Bolivar Museum commemorated the 194th anniversary of the passing to immortality
03:39of the liberator SimĂłn BolĂvar in the city of Bogotá.
03:42The commemorative act was attended by the diplomatic representation of Venezuela created
03:45in Colombia, members of the Advisory Commission of Foreign Relations and of the National Congress.
03:50Likewise, authorities commemorate the legacy of the liberator with a floral tribute, remembering
03:56also his influence in the unity and integration of Latin America, which brought justice, emancipation
04:01and self-determination to the peoples.
04:03In this sense, participants highlight the important role played by Venezuela in the
04:07peace of the Colombian country and made a call to abandon the polarization that separates
04:11the sister nations.
04:18Venezuela has played a very important role historically.
04:22This is not of today.
04:24Venezuela has accompanied many attempts at peace since practically the 90s and has always
04:27been very firm.
04:28It has played a fundamental role today as guarantor at the dialogue table in good times
04:33and in bad, in crises, and when things are going well.
04:37So all our gratitude to this place, to this commitment and to this vocation for peace.
04:47That is why I call on us to leave ideological polarization aside, to understand that the
04:52relationship between countries is not managed by governments, but by states.
04:57That is why they are permanent.
04:58That is why in some way they have no ideological sign or political color, nor do they obey
05:06any tribe.
05:07So that the invitation we make from here in the Quinta de BolĂvar, as we call it in Bogotá,
05:13to look for the things that unite us and work on a special relationship between Colombia
05:18and Venezuela.
05:22Also in Bolivia, the Chamber of Deputies commemorated the 194th anniversary of the passing into
05:27immortality of the liberator SimĂłn BolĂvar.
05:30Through the legislature, Gloria Calleja, Secretary of the Committee of Ordinary Jurisdiction,
05:35the country paid homage with floral offerings or highlighted the legacy of unity and struggle
05:39for independence left by the liberator BolĂvar in Latin American peoples.
05:43The organization of the event was carried out by the Embassy of Venezuela in the country
05:47with the presence of military and police authorities, as well as diplomatic representatives and
05:51other authorities.
05:58And we have now a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
06:02Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook English, where you'll find news in different
06:04formats, news updates, and much more.
06:06We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:27Welcome back.
06:28In Panama, the Manuel L. Amador Art Gallery presents, as it does every year, the annual
06:33exhibition in homage to the victims of the United States' invasion of the country on
06:36December 20th, 1989.
06:39The Art Gallery annually holds between 14 and 16 exhibitions dedicated to commemorating
06:44the U.S. invasion, in addition to paying tribute to the victims of this aggression.
06:48This year's exhibition includes, for the first time, images presented by the December 20th
06:52Commission on the exhumation carried out in 2020 and 2021 to try to find the bodies of
06:58the disappeared, who are presumed to have been buried in mass graves of the invading
07:02army.
07:03The gallery celebrates 30 years of management making these exhibitions in tribute to the
07:07fallen at the hands of the U.S. government.
07:15And the 22nd edition of the series of conversations Cuba and U.S. foreign policy was held in Havana.
07:21With the participation of the Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossio,
07:26the forum for dialogue on relations between Havana and Washington was inaugurated.
07:30In this context, the minister stated that Cuba is willing to negotiate with the United
07:33States in search of a relationship based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference
07:38in internal affairs.
07:39He also added that despite the pressures from the U.S. government, they would not be able
07:43to bend the will of the Cuban people.
07:46The U.S. government has caused much harm to the people of Cuba and continues to do so
08:00and may cause even greater harm in the years to come.
08:10The goal of mercilessly harming the people of Cuba can be achieved.
08:15Since the U.S. government is a powerful government and has the destructive capacity to cause
08:20such harm.
08:21What it will not be able to do is to achieve the objective of bending the will of the Cubans.
08:27Our will.
08:28It has not been able to do so until now.
08:30And it will not be able to do so.
08:37And in the rural area of La Huaca, Mexico City, most of an edible herb known as romerito
08:42is produced and forms part of a representative dish of the Christmas dinner.
08:46This year, a series of floods put part of the crop at risk.
08:50Let's see more details.
08:54Don Gustavo has been a fruit and vegetable merchant for 45 years.
08:59He knows that during the Christmas season, his customers are looking for fresh romerito
09:03to prepare it with mole for Christmas dinner.
09:05Mr. Gustavo explains that the romerito has not become more expensive for this season
09:10because the supply of this product is abundant.
09:18The price of romerito is currently good.
09:20It is difficult for it to go up or down two or three days before it even goes down when
09:26there is a lot.
09:27But there are times when it is scarce and then the price of the product is even doubled
09:31two or three days before.
09:34It is the law of supply and demand.
09:36This time it will not be like that because there is a lot in the central supply center.
09:41You can see trucks with a lot of romerito.
09:47Don Gustavo recognizes that romerito, a classic dish on the capitol's tables during Christmas
09:53dinner, remains but is losing ground to other options.
10:00Is romerito still a tradition in the Mexican tables?
10:03Yes, it is still quite a lot.
10:06Not like before, it used to be sold in huge quantities by the bundle.
10:11Now we are bringing 20, 30 kilograms but before we used to sell two or three bundles of 60
10:17kilograms.
10:18Ten to 15 years ago, we used to sell a lot of romerito.
10:26For some people in the capitol, romeritos are a must on their Christmas table and they
10:30are buying them in advance.
10:33The price is maintained, always fresh above all, always with good quality.
10:39At home with my grandparents, we always used to eat romeritos.
10:42Then with my parents and now here at home.
10:49In early October, unusual rains flooded 22 hectares of romeritos in Mexico City.
10:55Putting the crop at risk, the local government supported the producers.
11:01We are fulfilling the commitment of the head of government and on her behalf we are delivering
11:05seed so that this productive agricultural cycle is not lost and that in December we
11:11will have romeritos.
11:13We know the importance of romeritos for the area.
11:16Mexico City is the number one producer of romeritos at the national level.
11:25By 2024, production is expected to exceed 130 tons, thus guaranteeing supply.
11:34The joint effort between the local government and the producers of the rural area of the
11:38Tlahuac municipality made it possible to rescue dozens of hectares that were affected by atypical
11:44rains during October, thus avoiding a shortage of romerito during the Christmas season.
11:50We now have a second short break coming up, but before we invite you to visit our YouTube

12:06Found your break?
12:07Don't go away!
12:19Welcome back.
12:29In the United States, in a letter sent Tuesday to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, 20 Democratic
12:33lawmakers urged the administration of President Joe Biden to halt the transfer of offensive
12:37weapons to Israel.
12:38The congressman called on Washington to respect its own laws restricting military aid to countries
12:43that commit war crimes and blocking U.S.-backed humanitarian aid, as the Israeli government
12:48has not complied with U.S. requests for more aid to enter Gaza.
12:51Furthermore, continuing to transfer offensive weapons to the Israeli government prolongs
12:55the suffering of the Palestinian people.
12:57The pressure is unlikely to change.
12:59The discourse of Biden and Blinken, who are fierce supporters of Israel, underscores the
13:05persistent progressive pressure on the U.S. administration regarding its Middle East policies.
13:14And the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, returned to threaten undocumented
13:17immigrants this time in his most recent statements, where he affirmed that he will eliminate birthright
13:22citizenship.
13:23For New York, our correspondent, Henry Camelo, with details.
13:30Restricting immigration at any cost, even through fear, is what experts believe the
13:34most recent statements made by Donald Trump in his first interview after being elected
13:39president to the NBC channel, where he ratified his promise to eliminate birthright citizenship.
13:46You promised to end birthright citizenship on day one.
13:49Is that still your plan?
13:51Yeah, absolutely.
13:53The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution automatically grants citizenship to anyone
13:59born in the country, even if their parents are not citizens.
14:03For legal scholars, the path to eliminating birthright citizenship will be difficult,
14:07but not impossible.
14:13He would have to get a supermajority in both chambers.
14:20He would need at least 38 of the 50 states in the nation to approve that change.
14:24And that is very difficult.
14:26It is not impossible, but it is very difficult.
14:34Something that worries undocumented mothers of children born in the country.
14:40Well, that's not right, because his family, where he comes from, was also an immigrant.
14:45What is he talking about?
14:46I don't think it's right.
14:51I don't want to be breaking up families.
14:53So the only way not to break up the family is to keep them together.
14:57And you have to send them all back.
15:03Donald Trump is a racist.
15:08The policies he made in his first term as president and also the proposals he made during
15:12his campaign are racist proposals, based on an exclusion and an idea of who really belongs
15:22and deserves to be here and who does not.
15:29According to legal experts, fear seems to be Trump's strategy to get immigrants to return
15:34to their countries voluntarily.
15:39His main weapon is not really what happens, but the feeling it creates.
15:46The feeling of fear, the feeling of panic.
15:53He knows the fragility, the emotional delicacy of immigrants.
15:59Therefore, the call is to remain calm and united.
16:06It is not very likely that he will achieve that.
16:09But what he does achieve is to damage the relationship between immigrants and the people
16:14who live here.
16:20Trump will once again be up against the ropes, since eliminating birthright citizenship, according
16:25to jurists, is something very difficult to do.
16:29So we will see what will be his trick up his sleeve as of January 20th.
16:56A human rights organization known as Euromaid Human Rights Monitor denounced that Israel
17:01is committing urban massacres in Gaza.
17:04The organization denounces that the tactics employed in Gaza by Israeli troops, ranging
17:09from aerial bombardments, robot explosives and bulldozers demolishing residences, have
17:15reduced entire towns in the Palestinian enclave to rubble.
17:18Jabalia, Beit Lahaya and Beit Hanon, in the north of the strip, have been completely razed
17:23to the ground.
17:24The agency asserts that what Israel is trying to do is to raise the Palestinian material
17:28and cultural presence, thus registering a clear violation of international law.
17:38And Norway has formally requested that FIFA investigate Israel's allegations of human
17:43rights violations related to its military actions in Gaza.
17:46The Norwegian Football Association is urging FIFA to hold Israel accountable for its treatment
17:50of Palestinian athletes and the broader impact of the ongoing conflict on sports.
17:55This request follows Norway's recognition of the Palestinian state and reflects growing
17:59international concern regarding Israel's actions.
18:02In response, FIFA is considering the formation of an independent panel to assess these claims.
18:06The outcome of this investigation will have significant implications for both Israeli
18:10and Palestinian participation in global sporting events.
18:19The UN Security Council called for an inclusive political process in Syria and respect for
18:24the country's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.
18:27The organization advocates that Syrians themselves should control the process.
18:31UN Special Envoy Gerd Pedersen urged action against terrorism, a striking issue considering
18:36that several member countries are in talks with a self-proclaimed leader registered as
18:41a global terrorist.
18:42China, Russia and Iran reiterated the importance of abiding by all Council resolutions, the
18:481974 agreements and support for the UN, forced to observe the disengagement and the implementation
18:54of its mandate in the Syrian Gulf.
19:01The Russian government warns about the criminal nature of the Ukraine government, which recently
19:05murdered Lieutenant General Igor Krylov, murder which, according to Russian authorities, would
19:09not go unpunished.
19:11This was stated by the President of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, who promised
19:15to inflict a deserved punishment on those responsible for the murder of a Russian general.
19:20Volodin warned about the criminality of Ukraine, which he described as a terrorist state led
19:24by Nazis.
19:25The general's death came after a device hidden on a motorcycle exploded as he and his assistants
19:31were leaving a block of apartments on Tuesday morning, shortly after the event.
19:36The Ukrainian government claimed responsibility for the assassination, calling it an intelligence
19:40operation.
19:46Meanwhile, the Russian Federal Security Service has captured the author of the terrorist attack
19:54that assassinated General Igor Krylov.
19:55The perpetrator is a citizen of Uzbekistan who was arrested in the Kurne town in the
20:00outskirts of the capital.
20:01The terrorist confessed that the Ukrainian intelligence offered him $100,000 and legal
20:06residence in a country of the European Union.
20:08The hitman further detailed he had received the device in Moscow and that he was transmitting
20:12his actions directly to Kiev with a Wi-Fi camera.
