Ever wonder why some days when you're not feeling or looking your best, you surprisingly have a great encounter with a tall drink of water while lining up to pay for groceries? You go back home feeling amazing but a little baffled. Was it the boredom of waiting in line or was it something you did that made him attracted to you? You are not imagining things. You don't have to look like a cover model to be attractive to men. Not all men are superficial and they can be attracted to you no matter what you're wearing. It's not all about perfection -- here are things that surprisingly make women more attractive to men.

00:00Science has discovered that a select few items women regularly use have the power to attract
00:06the opposite sex.
00:08And as it happens, you probably already own a majority of them.
00:11Curious to know which of your everyday objects possess the power of attraction?
00:16Let's find out.
00:17In 2014, the American Podiatric Medical Association revealed that high heels are the devil.
00:23Well, they might not have used those exact words, but they did say that heels are the
00:28leading cause of foot pain in women.
00:30This isn't too surprising, given that pretty much anyone who has ever worn heels knows
00:35of their discomfort.
00:36Through a survey conducted by the association, it was discovered that of the 49 percent of
00:41women who reported wearing heeled shoes, a vast majority complained about the pain.
00:46Nevertheless, a study from the year prior discovered what was called a,
00:50"...strong contemporary association between high heels and female sexuality."
00:55Wearing heels was found to alter a person's gait in a way that reduced the length between
01:00steps and upped the swivel of the hips to create a unique swagger that apparently causes
01:04men to find women more attractive.
01:07After viewing videos of women walking in both heels and flat shoes, the participants in
01:11the study rated the heel-wearing women as significantly more attractive.
01:15Only you can decide if it's worth the pain.
01:18There are plenty of reasons to read.
01:20Most people may not crack open a book solely to keep an open mind or live longer than those
01:25who don't read, but both are side effects of reading.
01:29Surprisingly, books can even influence attractiveness.
01:32A study by Elite Singles found that 85 percent of single people considered others who are
01:37well-read to be more desirable than non-readers.
01:40As part of another survey conducted by Elite Singles, 26 percent of men and women named
01:45a well-stocked bookshelf as the most attractive item to come across in a date's home.
01:50When it comes to genres, many men found erotica readers attractive, but Harper Lee's To Kill
01:56a Mockingbird was also listed as one of the top five most attractive books to own.
02:01Go figure.
02:02But why is reading so attractive?
02:05Books lead to discussions, psychologist Salama Marine told the site.
02:09She said,
02:10"...your taste in books can highlight aspects of your personality.
02:13Are you curious, romantic, dreamy?
02:15By sharing your tastes, you can show and share your inner world."
02:20It's no secret that many women love sundresses.
02:22It's not just for reasons of comfort, either.
02:25Colleen Sherin, fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue, told the New York Times,
02:29"...sundresses always make you look pulled together.
02:32That's what makes them such a success."
02:34It's not just women and designers who love the look, though, and many men are drawn to
02:38women wearing sundresses.
02:41Glamour surveyed a few men who are on board with the trend to figure out just what it
02:45is about these dresses that make the women wearing them so attractive.
02:49Men cited include the cultivation of a girl-next-door vibe and being pretty much the ultimate when
02:55it comes to capturing a look that's both classy and feminine.
02:58Yeah, sundresses are pretty great, no matter who you are.
03:02There's another reason men find sundresses and pretty much anything without sleeves so
03:06attractive, and it has nothing to do with being classy.
03:10According to Science, men are all about arms.
03:14For real
03:15You've heard of guys who are so-called leg men, but it turns out a lot of dudes are secretly
03:19arm men instead.
03:21In one comprehensive study conducted in 2010, tall women with long arms were rated as highly
03:26attractive and anyone with slender arms was considered very, very attractive.
03:31A later study conducted by the University of Missouri at Kansas City found that women
03:36who were described as toned and thin women were considered more attractive than thin-only
03:41women.
03:42When speaking to The Independent, the study's lead author, Frances Bozzik, explained,
03:47There is a shift in the thin, ideal female figure to one that now includes the appearance
03:52of physical fitness via muscularity.
03:55There is more to attractiveness than meets the eye, and it's also in the ear and nose.
04:00It may sound a little out there, but researchers have found that our sense of smell seems to
04:04have a lot to do with how attractive we find someone.
04:08Scientists have found that human noses have the ability to assess things like fertility,
04:12health, diet, age, and personality, and our noses can even recognize family members through
04:17their body odor, which researchers speculated may be important in mate choice in order to
04:23avoid inbreeding.
04:24Okay, that took a turn, but still, our noses are pretty amazing.
04:29Although you might think all of this research means you should rely on your natural scent,
04:33that's not necessarily the case.
04:35Perhaps one of the best attractiveness hacks is perfume.
04:38Well, one kind of perfume.
04:40Avery Gilbert, a sensory psychologist, told Women's Health that fruity smells were found
04:45particularly attractive, while Dr. Alan Hirsch of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research
04:50Foundation added,
04:51"...edible odors tend to increase male arousal."
04:55Well, there you have it.
04:57Despite what is often said, seeing red is actually a good thing.
05:01Not only do women fancy men in red clothing, but men, too, are more attracted to women
05:05who wear the bold color.
05:07Well, young women who wear red, that is.
05:10A study conducted by researchers in Germany found that young women were perceived as more
05:14attractive when seated against a red background than one that was white.
05:19However, the background color didn't influence attractiveness one way or the other for older
05:23women.
05:24Interestingly, the study pointed out that men weren't able to consciously pinpoint
05:28why red was such a big deal, and it seems to be completely subconscious.
05:32The reasoning behind this phenomenon is not yet known.
05:36Sarah E. Johns, an evolutionary anthropology professor at the School of Anthropology and
05:41Conservation at the University of Kent in the UK, conducted another study on the color
05:45red, but could still only give her best guess.
05:48She told Shape,
05:49"...maybe it makes men feel competitive.
05:52Other studies have shown this, so maybe men are more competitive about women in red and
05:55therefore desire them more."
05:58If you're thinking that it's pretty obvious men like makeup, it's not quite that clear
06:02cut.
06:03In the course of a study conducted by psychologists at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston,
06:08participants were asked to view and rate female faces with three styles of makeup — minimal,
06:13moderate, and dramatic.
06:15The researchers found that each type had positive impacts on attractiveness, as well as likability,
06:20competence, and trustworthiness.
06:22However, when those same participants looked at the images for a longer amount of time,
06:26the faces remained both attractive and competent, but started to waffle in likability and trustworthiness.
06:33Why exactly that happens is unknown, as it hasn't been studied too much.
06:37In another study published in the Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, both men
06:42and women had reported finding women who were wearing minimal makeup more attractive.
06:46It seems men are not all about contouring.
06:49Oh well.
06:50A 2009 study revealed that men found a women's hip-to-waist ratio as more alluring than even
06:56the size of her breasts.
06:58Although we'd all certainly love to see more inclusivity in men's preferences, the study
07:02revealed that men rated women with,
07:05"...an hourglass shape and a slim waist as most attractive, irrespective of breast size."
07:10Oh, remember when we said most men don't like contouring?
07:13Well, it turns out, they do.
07:15Just not on the face.
07:16Although there have been calls to retire bodycon dresses, the trend has remained alive and
07:21well.
07:22Since the bodycon dress quite literally contours to your body and shows off your hip-to-waist
07:27ratio, it's practically the outfit to wear if you're looking to attract some male attention.
07:31And while some dudes may prefer a slim waist, any woman of any size can rock a bodycon while
07:36looking downright fabulous.
07:39Chewing gum has long been thought of as a no-no while interviewing for a job or working
07:43in a professional setting.
07:45In fact, Business Insider rounded up a list of small mistakes that could lead to you losing
07:50out on a job, and you guessed it, chewing gum made the cut.
07:53Despite it not being well-received in the workforce, gum can actually make both men
07:58and women appear more attractive.
08:00Well, except on a job interview, that is.
08:02Although they may have been out to prove a point and promote a product, the chewing gum
08:07company Beldent set up a live art exhibition at the Buenos Aires Museum of Contemporary
08:12Art.
08:13The installation featured a pair of identical male twins and identical female twins.
08:17Nearly 500 museum patrons were asked a series of questions about the twins.
08:22During the questioning, one sibling chewed a piece of gum while the other held a neutral
08:27And a whopping 73 percent responded positively to the gum-chewers.
08:32So while your favorite gum might not help you score a job, it might just help you score.
08:36I don't know if we should kiss, I mean, you're a zombie.
08:41But I'm kinda hot.
08:45When the Express Tribune polled men about their favorite women's fashion staples, it
08:49turned out that men weren't solely fans of bodycon dresses.
08:53Another great choice as far as men are concerned is a little black number.
08:57The U.K. company Buy T-Shirts Online further surveyed 1,000 people and discovered how they
09:02perceived different colors.
09:04The color black might seem a little grim, but there's a reason it's been a mainstay
09:08for everything from interviews to first dates.
09:11Over half of those who participated in the survey found black to be the color that exuded
09:16confidence.
09:17A 2010 study conducted by researchers at the University of Liverpool in the U.K. and Charles
09:22University in the Czech Republic also found that when men assessed women's attractiveness,
09:27two colors, red and black, made the biggest impressions.
09:31You may love your sunglasses, but it turns out your partner might love them even more.
09:36Vanessa Brown, a professor of art and design at Nottingham Trent University in the U.K.,
09:41researched the link between sunglasses and people's perception of cool.
09:45The expert found that sunglasses work not only to block out the sun, but to also make
09:49a person's face more symmetrical.
09:51And since symmetry is conventionally beautiful, well, our glasses up our attractiveness factor
09:56without us even having to try.
09:59Sunglasses also make a person's face look more defined.
10:02Not only that, but wearing a pair of shades pretty much makes us instantly mysterious
10:06— even if we're really not.
10:08Brown explained,
10:09"...the eyes are such a tremendous source of information and vulnerability for the human
10:14being."
10:15When sunglasses first became mainstream, they were thought of as daring and thoroughly modern,
10:19according to Brown.
10:20Although they're no longer anything new or unusual, their edgy cool factor lingers.
10:26Eyeglasses don't produce the same enigmatic effect as sunglasses do, but men still find
10:30some women who wear them attractive.
10:33Much of the attraction actually depends on the glasses, according to what researchers
10:36at the University of Vienna in Austria discovered.
10:39As part of a study on eyewear and attractiveness, they found that those wearing full-rim glasses
10:44were rated as less attractive and more intelligent than those without glasses.
10:49However, faces wearing rimless glasses did not lose any attractiveness points.
10:53Instead, their attractiveness remained the same, and they were also thought of as both
10:57more intelligent and trustworthy than faces without glasses.
11:01Of course, whether you decide to wear chunky frames, rimless eyewear, or anything in between
11:06is totally up to you.
11:07It doesn't have to come down to what men consider to be attractive, and it's really all about
11:11how you feel when you put something on.
11:14It's also worth noting that what's hot in eyewear today may change tomorrow, so picking
11:18a style you genuinely like is your best bet.
