She's been living by the freeway for 2 years. We talked to Lisa and Haryn about how difficult and scary this rescue was, but the moment they finally were able to save her made it all worth it!

00:00She was so close to a very busy Los Angeles highway.
00:04She really wanted to be our friend.
00:10I was so close to getting her,
00:12but there was so much risk of her running on the freeway.
00:16I didn't want to make the mistake.
00:20She ran away, and so we lost her trust a little bit.
00:25The next morning, we loaded up everything,
00:27the snares, the net.
00:28We tried different things.
00:30We're waiting for her to go in the trap.
00:32And she wouldn't go in.
00:34She was so smart.
00:36There were people feeding her,
00:37and they had said this dog has been here for a couple of years.
00:40Our next step was we needed to contact the guys
00:43to stop feeding her.
00:44If we could get her a little bit hungry,
00:46she would go into our trap.
00:48It was getting dark.
00:49She ran that way, and I just threw the net.
00:52That was a catch.
00:53You're safe now.
00:56I was so happy when we got her,
00:57because I knew that she was going
00:59to blossom and bloom quickly.
01:06We took her back to Herons, who had agreed to foster her.
01:09Good girl.
01:11We showed her her space.
01:12We set it up with a bed and food and water.
01:16And she had the best night of sleep
01:18that she's ever had that night.
01:21The next day, the first thing we did was a bath.
01:25She was very shy, nervous, scared, but not reactive at all,
01:30kind of just taking it all in.
01:32As soon as I got her out of the bathtub,
01:37that's when she first started to wag her tail.
01:40And she just wanted to lick my face.
01:46She was really into having all the comfort of home life.
01:52I started flow intros with Nico through a puppy gate.
01:57And they would go nose to nose, tail wagging.
02:04The moments with Nico where they're having fun
02:07and just letting loose like dogs, that's something
02:11that means a lot to her.
02:12Every day, she's just learned so much.
02:15Like, it's really, really cute to see a dog that
02:17was so insecure and so nervous to, like, be a dog.
02:21I painted this picture of her the other day.
02:24This is just, like, her face, you know?
02:26Like, it's always just, like, happy, smiling.
02:29That's, like, her personality.
02:31We're setting her up for success.
02:33I have the time.
02:34I have the space to foster.
02:36It's not sustainable for me to adopt them all.
02:39And I want to save the dogs that I can save.
02:42Whoever she's going to love, they're
02:45her ride or die forever.
02:47My ideal home for Aster would be a home
02:51that is patient, who can help her continue to blossom
02:55into the beautiful dog that she is.
02:58She really warms up in no time.
