00:00What does Kyle Shanahan have to do to win back your trust if you've lost it?
00:06Wow.
00:07Because, you know, I mean, you can say, well, he should play Jordan Mason more.
00:14Or Jordan Mason more creative.
00:16Well, and that's the other problem I have.
00:19Is he creative or is he not creative?
00:21I thought he was the most creative play caller in the league.
00:24And you were correct.
00:25Pre-snap motion, all that stuff.
00:27That's run out.
00:28And it feels like, you tell me if I'm wrong, defenses have caught up.
00:31And that's why you're not scoring as much.
00:33I don't think it's too far-fetched to have that ideology on, OK, what's your counteract
00:40to that?
00:41Maybe.
00:42That's what we're waiting on.
00:43And I think Niner fans are disappointed.
00:44And that's why baldies of the world, people watching the Niners, are just a little bit
00:49perplexed at how, I'm just using Mason, how he's not even being put on the field.
00:55Let me play nine plays.
00:57Well, you know what?
00:59OK, so if you want Mason, doesn't that mean Juszczyk's not going to get as much playing
01:04time?
01:05Steini, I don't know who's not going to get him, but yeah.
01:09But he's a laughing stock to you.
01:11I can't speak for you, like you're saying.
01:13Listen, I'm just saying.
01:14I could give a hell with Juszczyk.
01:15Like, get the guys who can make plays and break tackles on the turf.
01:21Juszczyk was a fixture on this team for four or five years.
01:27And all I was told over that time, even though he didn't carry a lot and he didn't catch
01:31a lot, that he was invaluable to this team as a blocker.
01:37Kyle Juszczyk apparently does things that a lot of us don't see.
01:42Kyle Shanahan is one of the few coaches that employs a fullback as much as he does.
01:47So is he supposed to go away from one of his philosophies that had worked for him
01:53in the past just because the overall offense seems to be struggling right now?
02:00Or do you rely heavily on what you do and what you're great at?
02:05It's a combination of both.
02:07And again, I'm not a football coach.
02:08All I know is, Steini, if that were the cost of getting Mason on the field for a running
02:13game that is lacking, I would try it.
02:17And maybe if people saw Mason out there with McCaffrey out there, and even if it didn't
02:23work, at least you feel like, you know what, that itch got scratched.
02:27And I think it's not about what happens when he's out there, it's the fact that he won't
02:32even try it.
02:33And I keep saying the definition of insanity for the Niners this year is trying the same
02:38thing over and over, expecting a different result.
02:41Well, they've done things over and over and have had great results.
02:47Listen, I'm not saying you're wrong or I'm right.
02:51I'm looking at it from a coaching standpoint.
02:56And if everything that has worked for the last four or five years isn't working, is
03:02that an indictment on the players or on the coach?
03:06Because you have the same players.
03:08Maybe what if they're just not executing like they have in the past?
03:13But that still does not make up for, again, what I believe Jordan Mason showed the world
03:20he could do.
03:22Is he Earl Campbell?
03:23Is he McCaffrey?
03:24No.
03:25He can wear defenses down, and through five weeks, he led the league in broken tackles.
03:31How would you know he's got worn down when McCaffrey came back?
03:36It's football.
03:37Everybody gets hurt.
03:38Saquon Barkley's been hurt.
03:39And he was also the player who said he couldn't believe how much work Christian McCaffrey
03:45did.
03:46I think Jordan Mason was getting less effective the more he was being used.
03:50That's just me.
03:51And I'm not saying you shouldn't run him out there six, eight plays a game or whatever
03:54you want to do.
03:55But to me, getting Mason in there 10, 12 plays is not really attacking what the big issues
04:05are with this team, which are the entire running game, the entire offense, the entire
04:12passing game, the entire defense, all of special teams.
04:16If I told you my brother hit me with this, you tell me what to do real quick.
04:20If I asked you, do you think the Niners roster is declining?
04:22How would you answer?
04:23Yes.
04:24Of course.
04:26Of course.
04:27What do you mean, wow?
04:29Like this, they're five and six.
04:32None of their good players are having good years.
04:35They're all veteran players who are having poor years.
04:39Yes.
04:40And that's why, and listen, I'm not saying I'm sitting here with all the answers.
04:43I don't have any of the answers.
04:45But what I'm asking is, if we're going to blame injuries, McCaffrey, Greenlaw, well
04:54then we can't wonder and scratch our head why we're five and six.
05:01But if you think it's bigger than injury, well then you got to ask some serious questions
05:06about where this team's going, even if you bring them back next year and they do have
05:11health.
05:12You know what I mean?
05:13Like I don't, like that I wouldn't do.
05:16Like something's going on.
05:17I'm not sure what it is, but you're not missing anybody on the offensive line.
05:22You missed Trent last game.
05:23Exactly.
05:24They've been disappointing.
05:25You lost to Seattle at home in a big divisional game and you had McCaffrey, you had Trent
05:31Williams.
05:32So, you know, you're missing Hargrave.
05:34But other than that, Stony, the trenches, that's the area where you can't really say
05:39it's been injury, outside of Hargrave.
05:43Exactly.
05:44So, and that's the other thing.
05:46If the line, like I do remember a lot of fans in the offseason were saying the offensive
05:53line is not good enough.
05:55And it looks like they may have been right.
05:57And the defensive line maybe doesn't have enough depth.
06:00And the people who said that may have been right.
06:03I'm just wondering where 49er fans are at 5-6.
06:09Not just trying to make a run.
06:11I mean, all they can do is try to make a run this year.
06:14And they've been blessed to be in a division that gives them a chance to only be one game
06:18bad.
06:19And that's a blessing and a curse.
06:21Because if they were 5-6 in a division with the Packers and Lions, it would be over.
06:27Exactly.
06:28And maybe we'd be taking a much harder look at this thing.
06:32Other than, well, if we get to 9, you know what, maybe they'll get the 9 wins and run
06:36the table.
06:37But I don't, I haven't seen any evidence to that.
06:40But even then, there would be a mini-celebration of, they've created a standard of going deep
06:45in the postseason.
06:47But in a year that, you know, they've been dealt a bad hand, we were able to make the
06:51playoffs.
06:52I mean, what Niner fan wouldn't take that?
06:55And there's going to be some study like, oh, I don't even want this version of them
06:58to make it.
06:59Well, that's ridiculous.
07:00Of course they do.
07:01Alright, okay.
07:02I thought we were getting ready to argue on that.
07:03But no doubt, that would be the win.
07:05I said Operation Super Bowl, but obviously that's off the board.
07:09Or maybe it's not.
07:10Let's go to Austin in San Francisco.
07:13What's up, Austin?
07:14How you doing?
07:15Hey, I'm doing good.
07:16I just want to calm down on Shanahan, man.
07:19All these adjustments that he's not making, these bad adjustments that he's making, putting
07:25Brennan Allen in the game instead of Dodds, Brennan Allen ain't played a down in three
07:30years, possibly four years as a starter.
07:34That's just the end.
07:35It comes in with a broken finger on the left hand to hold the ball tight and grip.
07:40Like, come on, man.
07:41And then, I want to say this, too.
07:43Let's stop calling him an offensive genius or whatnot.
07:46He ain't been an offensive genius since he was on the Falcons with Julio Jones, White,
07:50Tony Gonzalez, Freeman and all that.
07:53That's the only time he was actually a genius.
07:56Other than that, when have we actually seen him be a genius?
07:59Well, I mean, Evan, you had that number.
08:02How many points did the Niners average last year?
08:04Like 30 compared to 23 this year, something like that?
08:0828.9.
08:09There was 29.9 in 2019.
08:12So essentially 29 and 30 the last two years.
08:15Essentially averaging less, a touchdown less this season.
08:18I mean, that's significant.
08:21That's significant.
08:22You're right, Austin.
08:23But, I mean, we can't act as though this offense hasn't been prolific at times.
08:28You know what I mean?
08:29You still there?
08:30Right.
08:31Look how hard it is for us to do that.
08:33We can't beat no one down the field.
08:36We have no speed at all.
08:38We have a 4-2 that we're not even using, which is cowardly.
08:41We're not even using it at all.
08:43When Ronnie Bell gets play, you said get a couple of receptions here and there.
08:48Why can't I go to Kyle Cowan?
08:50Why they can't go to Garindo or somebody else other than Ronnie Bell?
08:55I mean, I think...
08:56Hey, thanks, Austin.
08:57Appreciate the call.
08:59They can go to those guys, but, like, they're rookies, and I don't think rookies are going
09:07to win five of the next six games for the four or whatever, how many they have to win
09:13They're going to have a chance, Donnie.
09:14Who?
09:15The rookies.
09:16You talked about the six ones that were making contributions.
09:18My point is, you got to play who's healthy first, and if it is what it is...
09:23Like, he made some valid points, and again, like you said, we do not have the answers.
09:27But I do know this.
09:29This prognosis on Brock Purdy moving forward for this game against Buffalo is everything,
09:33man.
09:34Because you can't go five and seven, then I come see you after Thanksgiving holiday,
09:38and we're still talking maybe they're a game out.
09:40Like, then that's nasty work.
09:43I mean, if they make the playoffs at 8-9, they make the playoffs at 8-9, and then Kyle
09:48Shanahan will be able to say, I've made the postseason six of eight years here, or five
09:54of eight years in San Francisco.
09:57But I don't know, I just, I'm trying to figure out this team, and whether, you know, Cam
10:04Inman said he thought this team was underachieving as much as any team in the last 25 years.
10:10I don't know the specific teams, but I don't think so.
10:14I think we're looking at this team like a Super Bowl team, but they were not a Super
10:18Bowl team when they stepped on the field for the first game.
10:23They weren't.
10:24They didn't have a great running, you know, they didn't have their best running back,
10:28and they never, they never have put it together yet.
10:33And I get they had evidence last year that they were a football, great football team,
10:39and the year before.
10:40But to me, this year has been so drastically different that, what else can you say other
10:49than this may be the end of this run for this team?
10:54And what would that mean if it is the end of the run for the team, if you don't make
10:57the playoffs?
10:58What do you do?
10:59Well the first piece of business is decide if this guy, your quarterback in the quarterback
11:03league is the guy.
11:04And I don't want to make that decision if the 49ers don't make the playoffs.
11:09Like I think that becomes a real difficult decision.
11:13I know there's a lot of people out there that, you know, Purdy's going to get his money,
11:16whatever it is, and I think you're probably right.
11:19But the garbage about resetting the market, I mean, I think you've got to be kidding me
11:24at this point.
