00:00This is what happens when Victor's programming progresses. Here's a look at
00:04McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Forever Evil Platinum Edition Grid.
00:23Grid was a software program that gathered information for Cyborg. The
00:27program grew and evolved into a living computer virus. In its new malevolent
00:31form, the sentient form of artificial intelligence attacked the Justice League
00:35forming an alliance with Earth 3's crime syndicate. For its invaluable services
00:39Grid demanded two things. A body culled from the robotic prosthesis of Cyborg
00:43and emotions which was his ultimate goal. This is what happens when you're
00:47worrying too much about the threats outside to not think about the ones that
00:50are already inside. Just before of course we get a closer look at the DC
00:53Multiverse Platinum Edition version of Grid I'd like to thank the folks over at
00:56McFarlane Toys that did provide the sample we could have a look at.
00:58Following to that let's grab the tape measure and just see how tall Grid stands
01:01because of course this is using the same mold as the standard one that we've
01:04already had a look at. The size of the figure is gonna be exactly the same.
01:07According to the tape measure though Grid is gonna be about nine inches in
01:10height. In fact he's exactly nine inches in height and that translates to a
01:13figure that's 23 centimeters tall. I'll put the host of this review bring in the
01:17host of the virus. So here's what Grid looks like along with Cyborg. Pretty tall
01:21figure. Here's also what he looks like with the earlier looked at regular
01:24release of Grid. Now you're already looking at this. I know what you're
01:27already thinking. How about where's the snacks for this review? No snacks are
01:30over there. But you're probably looking at this and you're thinking that Platinum
01:34Edition doesn't look a little bit taller than the regular release. I think it's
01:37actually just the way I've actually got them displayed. If you put them back to
01:40back and if I try to straighten them out just a little bit I think in fact they
01:45are the same size. It's just because only because the way I've got the legs
01:48straight on this one I wasn't straightening out the legs as much in
01:51the regular release probably would make up for the size difference that you're
01:53seeing right now. Speaking of the things that you're seeing right now you're
01:56probably only seeing the fact that Grid comes in clue with a display stand and a
01:59podium standee that's gonna come in clue with a trading card. Those are in fact
02:03the exact same things that came in clue with the regular release. Also the figure
02:07first of all does come in clue with a display stand. I mean I could bring
02:09obviously in the one that we got from Grid before but I mean we've seen these
02:13these display stands countless times. The only thing the extra frills that
02:16obviously get afforded to these is that they get it now silver DC logo instead
02:20of just the black. The figure also comes in clue with the exact same standee that
02:25comes also in clue with the exact same card as the regular release too. I can't
02:29imagine that they would then go and change the trading card just because
02:31again we're getting a platinum edition versus the regular release. I mean to use
02:35the exact same card obviously it's gonna be the exact same character. When we
02:38looked at Simon and then we looked at Solomon Baz obviously I could justify
02:42maybe why the character card should be a little bit different from one another
02:44but being that these are all also Grid and Grid it makes no sense
02:49really to include a completely different card. The back of the card are
02:52also exactly the same. One of the things that I did mention when we
02:55looked at the other Grid is if you look at the back of the card, yes his name is
02:59listed as N.A., non-applicable, but I think that they also should have
03:04included the first appearance date of the character, something
03:08though I did mention the other review of Grid. The paragraph read is gonna be
03:11exactly the same. You know believe me you should really believe me. Let's just
03:14grab the other card here. There we go. Yeah they're exactly the same to one
03:17another. I mean that makes no real mention as to why the guy's colored
03:20this way. I think has more to do with the fact I think this is the cyber realm
03:23look of Grid. You can correct me if I'm wrong down below in the comment section
03:27but trading card wise they are exactly the same to one another. Let's move those
03:31off to the side. Of course let's also move this aside as well. So even though
03:36again like you're not getting much in the way of accessories, well you're getting
03:38next to nothing in the way of accessories, you're still getting a
03:41pretty decent looking Grid. One thing is though I didn't mention when we looked
03:44at the review of regular Grid. Again just slide this guy over for a second.
03:47This isn't the first time by the way we've gotten this mold. A cyborg was
03:52released. No no no not this cyborg. A taller version of cyborg was released at
03:57one point that utilized pretty much the exact same mold. The lower half of the
04:01body basically from like the trunks down to the legs were the same from the
04:05cyborg before. Maybe like one of the arms but definitely a different gun
04:09altogether. Maybe the gauntlet was also a little bit similar as well to the
04:12original cyborg. The reason why I'm talking about it and not simply just
04:15bringing in the figure is obviously this guy behind the camera doesn't have that
04:19other cyborg. If I did I would already have brought the figure in and you would
04:22be able to see the fact that they are using the molds again. The actual molds
04:26themselves from one to the other are exactly the same. The only thing that's
04:30been changed here is the cosmetic paint. The figure itself, well if maybe like in
04:34the original look of Grid having that darker gray works really well with the
04:37character, you're not maybe warming up to the idea of the fact that this
04:40character's kind of come across a little bit more like an emerald version
04:42of himself. Let me perhaps throw out this as a possible possibility of the way you
04:47can actually display this guy on the shelf. I was already thinking right away
04:49when I saw this guy in the packaging. I wasn't thinking Grid right away. I was
04:53thinking Metallo. I think we've actually gotten ourselves a Metallo
04:57now in a standard size figure but if you want an oversized foil for Superman
05:02that would be a perfect looking Metallo. That all being said let's go ahead and
05:06just move around the regular version of him. We'll bring him back don't worry
05:09don't worry. Let's pick up the version of the platinum version of Grid and yeah
05:14again like I can really look at this and I can see right away a lot of elements
05:17that would work perfectly for a Metallo on my shelf. The head sculpt is gonna be
05:21exactly the same. The only thing that's different though between this one, I mean
05:23there's gonna be a lot of obviously color changes between the two that are
05:26different from one another. He doesn't have the red though in his gums. Now they
05:30trade the gums out, the gum color at least now for all silver. I think the
05:33silver works really well but it still doesn't have a poseability mouth. Oh I
05:37should have really had an articulated mouth. I think that would really have
05:41driven home the sheer craziness of Grid but again like the figure is only gonna
05:45be utilizing a standard sculpt in his head probably because also again when
05:49you really think about it figures like this, characters like this maybe aren't
05:52as well known as Doomsday. Doomsday can get a little more of those frills. Doomsday
05:56can get for example an articulated jaw. Grid unfortunately doesn't get it. I
06:00would have liked if he could have though. Of course you got the glowing eye there
06:03still in the same place as the other Grid. You also got the glowing eye there
06:06in the middle. A lot of this just again this guy's gonna say this probably a lot
06:09in this review. Very much things that I can look at this and think right
06:13away. Metallo. Of course if you want to carry over that idea of kryptonite
06:17fueling this guy what a better way to look at than his heart or the equivalent
06:21of that. This could really look like this guy's being powered by kryptonite. You
06:25know again like I'm saying this whole time I don't want to really take
06:28anything away from the fact that this is clearly a cool-looking Grid but there's
06:31always again like just because you're buying a figure because it has a certain
06:34name on the packaging does not mean that you have to display him on the
06:37shelf like that. The coloring though for the green though maybe doesn't work as
06:40well for me as a Grid. Yeah the green works really quite well for that other
06:43known character. Of course he does have still the same sculpting in his head. He
06:47has also as well those limitations in the head sculpt too because he's got the
06:50larger color that goes around the head. It means that when you are getting I
06:54know we're not looking at really the articulation just yet in this character
06:56but when it gets to turning the head around you can really feel this friction
07:00the side of the guy's head but a really cool-looking head nonetheless. Of course
07:04the rest of the figure's body still has the black in the arms. It still has now
07:07the black painted area on his torso. The original version of Grid also had that
07:11too. Now one of the things too I did mention when we looked at the original
07:14review of the standard Grid was that the coloring that they used for the black
07:18wall somewhat matching the colors of the molded plastic arms. I feel like could
07:22have maybe gone a little bit better had they used a matte black or semi-gloss
07:26black as opposed to the shinier black. It does come across though it feel like
07:29maybe there's too much of that paint being added to the body. The lower end
07:33of his legs obviously are gonna be exactly the same. The only thing again
07:35swapping out is the gray now for the green. I don't know if I would even say
07:39it's just a green alone. It kind of looks like a mint green. Of course
07:43details can't be lost here at all in this figure. He doesn't have much in the
07:46way of a wash but what he still managed to pull off is some
07:49really good-looking sculpting. McFarlane's team spent a lot of time you can
07:53really tell put a lot of detail into the figure's body not only in the front but
07:56also in the back as well. Down below there we've got coarse grits behind. There
08:01seems to be I don't know I'm drawing maybe attention away from the fact we
08:04don't need to be looking at this guy's behind but I want to draw your though
08:06attention to the fact it seems like the coloring of the green has a little wash
08:10of black across that as well. Maybe it was also the case as well when we
08:14looked at the regular release but it just seems like there's a little more of
08:17that darker color happening here on the green plastic. Of course he still has the
08:21big clunky boots on the bottom. I did mention in the review of the other one
08:25that he does have a peg placement right here that can plug obviously into
08:28the display stand right here. The thing about it though is that his feet are
08:32very clunky. They kind of remind me of the steel DC multiverse figure that we
08:35had a look at. When you start to add texturing on the sides of the soles it
08:39causes a kind of conflict when you get this guy to properly balance. You can
08:43stand him up pretty easily enough if you get him just right. You kind of really
08:46have to have his feet completely flat. The moment you start to like arch his
08:50feet a little bit the figure doesn't seem to balance as well. Now for the
08:53figure's articulation I'm gonna go back though to Grid's head which again I
08:56already mentioned is gonna be a little more tighter because when you're trying
08:59to... not that you really would want to be rotating a head all the way around
09:02whether he's robotic or not that's probably gonna still kill him. The head
09:05rotates but it's gonna be pretty much of a fight to try to get around
09:09the side of his collar. The head normally would be able to rotate all the way
09:12around. It still can really do that but you feel like you're really fighting
09:15when you're trying to do that. The head does look up. The head does look down
09:19obviously. It looks a lot further down than it does up. You can also rock it
09:23back and forth as well. The shoulder pads are also something like the original one
09:27would have had too where you can move these up and down. Now you can either
09:30have them close to his body or you can have them a little further down. I think
09:34when we look to the regular release of him I said that I kind of like the
09:36shoulder pads up. I changed my mind. I changed my mind. I think I'd like to have
09:40him down a little bit more just because I like the sharp points, the peaks on the
09:43tops of the shoulder pads instead. Though if you want to do move out his arms you
09:47will want to make sure you kind of bring the shoulder pads up just a little bit
09:49just to give you a little bit of extra clearance. The arms for all intents and
09:52purposes do allow for full rotations but the shoulder pads being in the way of
09:56things may limit that by a little bit. Shoulders of course move out also as
10:00well. There's a swivel in the bicep. There is a double hinge on the elbow and hands
10:03rotate all the way around. A correction I'm sure many have already mentioned to
10:07me is that this arm does only have just a single hinge. In the review of the
10:11regular release I said that this one had a double hinge but the side that has the
10:15cannon only has a single hinge. The side that doesn't have the cannon has a
10:19double hinge in the elbows. The original Cyborg I think also would have had this
10:22as well. Different cannon arm all together although with this one it's the
10:26exact same cannon arm. It kind of looks like though a cabbage. A cabbage with a
10:30little bit of greening glowing green there on the end of it but still kind of
10:33looks a little bit like a cabbage. An alien space cabbage. Anyways though one
10:38of the other things too with the larger arm like this is it does cause a bit of
10:42a problem because now you're adding some unnecessary weight to the arm. Like with
10:45the other one you probably can already see he holds the cannon up for only so
10:49long and then it kind of seems like the arm starts to droop down. I know I just
10:52did that myself. I showed you guys but it basically just kind of
10:57drives home the idea. With so much weighted plastic like this on the end of
11:01his arm obviously over time it's gonna cause it already has started to cause
11:04looseness in his shoulders. Upper torso is gonna be in a ball joint. The lower
11:09abdomen areas I'm tapping furiously also is on a ball joint. Now with again like
11:14the original version of Cyborg this would have been now retooled for Grid. I
11:18think the arms would have been the same. This possible arm may have also been
11:22tooled a bit differently for Grid. Completely different cannon arm but like
11:25basically like from this point down this is all original Cyborg if you have that
11:29figure. These trunks are still softer plastic so again you're gonna still have
11:34that problem that when you are moving the legs out every so often you might
11:37find the top of the thigh getting kind of caught around the softer plastic of
11:41the trunks. You can move the legs forward. You can move them back. There's a
11:44swivel obviously on the top of the thigh. A single hinge only on the knee. Rotation
11:49down below here for the lower leg. You got of course now here is always again
11:52the hardest part when it comes to Grid. The ratcheted joints are so tight on
11:56these ankles even just like when you're wanting to get the feet flat you really
11:59feel like you have to put a lot of pressure against them. There is an ankle
12:02rocker back and forth and of course the figure does have toe articulation. Always
12:05like toe articulation on these figures. All in all it's a good-looking Grid but
12:10I feel like maybe I'm liking the figure for maybe all the wrong reasons. I'm
12:13liking him... let's just slide him over here... I'm liking him not so much for the
12:17fact that he's a color variation of Grid. If I want to have this guy displayed on
12:20the shelf as Grid this will be the guy that I go with. If though I want to have
12:24this guy display on the shelf as an other character, a different villain or
12:27foil for a hero, I'd display this guy on the shelf more so as a Metallo. Again I
12:32think we did get ourselves a Metallo in a smaller scale figure. I still want to
12:35pick up that one but I think for the meantime though an oversized Brutes of a
12:39Metallo that's gonna go toe-to-toe with Superman, what a better one to go with
12:43than the Platinum Edition of Grid. Whether that was the intended plan or not,
12:46obviously it wasn't the intended plan and the intended plan was a color
12:48variation of Grid. I like though the green color scheme of this minty green
12:53would work really well when you've got things like the front of the chest here
12:56glowing green like this. What a better way to think that this guy would be
12:59powered by Kryptonite and again the ultimate villain for a character like
13:02Superman. That other cyborg by the way was part of a Target exclusive
13:06Flashpoint wave. It only really consisted of four characters but if you were
13:09lucky enough to get all four you could build yourself a larger cyborg. Because
13:13that cyborg was already way too big and it seemed out of scale with the rest of
13:17the Teen Titans, I never really bothered to get the whole set. I was able to find
13:20the Aquaman but with the scarcity of not having Target stores in here in Canada,
13:24the only other option I had was places like eBay and the price of that set
13:28alone was way too high to justify even collecting them in the first place. I did
13:32wonder though was McFarlane ever gonna be able to get any more use out of that
13:36mold because that's a very unique mold only really to Cyborg. What else could
13:40they really do with it? Sure enough though here along comes Grid. Grid's now
13:44been reusing that mold twice already with now the regular release and the
13:48Platinum that we looked at in this review. It only again uses the lower
13:51half of the body from that Bath Cyborg. The top half obviously would have had to
13:55been retooled. Brand new torso, brand new arms for the most part even though it has
14:00still the single hinge that I believe the original Cyborg also had as well. The
14:04thing again I like about this one is that even though the colors are just a
14:07change from the regular mold, I mean between this and the regular version
14:11it's only cosmetics and that's it. There's something about really this one
14:14with the green color scheme that works really well for me. Although I'm looking
14:19at this and said already in this review, I'm not looking at necessarily as Grid,
14:22I'm looking at it as Metallo. If you're having a very similar idea to that, the
14:26good thing about this guy is that he's a good large-sized character. He has some
14:30difficulty when it comes to standing but as you can see right here if you get
14:33him in that sweet spot of standing properly he doesn't even really need a
14:37display stand. The character doesn't have any other accessories but you could
14:40really look at this and also see as well there's a lot of plastic that went into
14:44the mold of this body whether it's be a reused body or not. Because of that I
14:48could understand why they would have only included the podium standee for the
14:51trading card and just a standard display stand. Did he really need anything else? I
14:55really don't think so. What do you guys though think of the Platinum Edition of
14:58Grid and could you also perhaps see yourself picking this one up to maybe
15:02have as a stand-in for Metallo? A big thank you again to the folks over at
15:06McFarland Toys that did provide this sample of the brand new DC Multiverse.
15:10This was the Platinum Edition of Grid. If you guys did enjoy this video do it a
