00:00remember Superman your father was the man of tomorrow but you you've got to be
00:04the man of today here's your look at McFarland toys DC multiverse DC future
00:09state Superman John Kent
00:13after his father the first Superman is exiled from earth John takes on the
00:31symbol of hope to become the man of steel as Superman he stands ready to
00:34protect the world using his incredible superpowers to prove himself and the
00:38people of Metropolis that the s shield on his chest is deserved anyone can be
00:42super but can they be a Superman before we answer that question let's grab the
00:46tape measure and see how tall the DC multiverse DC future state John Kent
00:50stands the answer to that question though is actually about six and
00:53three-quarters of an inch in height or roughly 17 centimeters tall a bit of an
00:58older figure but one still worth checking out and actually one of the
01:01main reasons why we're checking out the DC future state John Kent is more to do
01:04with the fact we just recently had a look at lightning lad in the review of
01:07lightning lad I did say that a lot of the mold got carried over from John
01:10Kent's you probably can't even see it for yourself similar style of torsos
01:13although they had to do a little bit more retooling here from Jonathan Kent
01:16because of course they incorporated the Superman shield similar arms similar
01:20legs bringing in some other figures as well I wanted to bring in Superman I may
01:23not have chosen the best Superman this just happened to be the one I grabbed
01:26that got packed along with doomsday and also wanted to bring in Superboy just
01:30kind of give you a similar size still younger version of the man of steel as
01:34for the things that come in clue with John first the figure does come include
01:36the flight stand we don't get flight stands all that often so when we do it's
01:40a really nice treat it consists actually of two parts when you actually get out
01:44of the packaging they're already separated parts if you want to just to
01:47only display the display stand as you see now you can actually even do that
01:50because there's a peg right there the DC logo it's a little harder to make out
01:54but it's also branded down below here as well you can have it on its own or of
01:57course you can also get yourself as well the neck the neck if you're looking at
02:00the back of this there's just an open canal here see that okay just take the
02:05neck and slide that in place it slides in place and I've noticed with the
02:09newer flight stands that they seem to be a lot easier to remove I don't know
02:12maybe it's just I'm looking for something like this but it seems like
02:15the older flight stands once you lock them in place they were a lot harder to
02:18remove or maybe it's because I've become a little bit easier finding an easier
02:22way to remove these again basically that just snaps in place at the end of the
02:26neck of course you've got yourself the adjustable waist clip this opens this
02:29closes and this also does swing up and down as well so if you want to clamp
02:33this around John Kent's torso just a case of fitting that around his body
02:36like that I mean obviously obviously you can get in a much better pose I've got
02:40it right now or because this is also a flight stand that angles down you can
02:45also put him in a flight pose to removing that and we'll just put the
02:48flight stand off to the side I'm sure it's probably gonna be coming back for
02:51final looks at the figure he also does come included with a trading card now
02:55the trading card does have figure photography as opposed to source
02:58material down below it does have though Superman John Kent from DC future state
03:02ideally I would have really preferred if they had used a source material image
03:06rather than actually figure photography despite that though it's a nice image
03:10even of the figure and then on the back the real name is Jonathan Samuel John
03:14Kent you can pause it you can read it for yourself I know I always say this
03:19I've already read this at the beginning of this review so if you still want to
03:22if you want to still eat up a little bit of your time you can stop you can pause
03:25you can read it for yourself so we're just gonna move the card off to the side
03:30the figure does also come includes some swappable hands now he has a closed fist
03:33on this side he has a gestured flight hand on the other if you like that look
03:37but you want it over here the figure basically comes with a mirror flip of
03:40those off of those hands so basically like you have a closed fist that would
03:43go then on this side you've got a flight hand that good on the go on this side
03:45right okay if you want to change out the hands it's just a case of holding on to
03:49the forearm just removing it easily from the peg take the hand that you want to
03:53use you don't really have many choices to work with but that just plugs in
03:55place now you got yourself two flight hands you want to have them displayed
03:59like that I think for John Kent what I will end up doing is having them in a
04:02flight pose it just works really well I think for the character like this the
04:05one thing I will say before we start talking about anything else is that the
04:08coloring of his pegs don't quite match the coloring of his hands the color of
04:12the hands you can see is a much lighter plastic the color of the pegs is a much
04:15darker shade of that I wish it was a matching color because it actually
04:18doesn't look like it belongs to his arms anyways though the actual figures head
04:22sculpt is one thing I really do like a lot now as opposed to just giving him
04:26straight pupils what they've chosen instead is to kind of give him a heat
04:29ray vision don't worry don't get too close to him you don't have to worry
04:32about he's not gonna be blasting your brains away by by using heat vision but
04:35I do like the look of that I think it's a nice little different touch the actual
04:39figure itself does have some decent sculpting on his hair it's a younger
04:42Superman but it's still a recognizable suits even for the fact he does have a
04:46little Superman curl there on the front sculpting on the face overall for the
04:50most part I'm happy with now the body itself if we were to bring back in
04:54lightning lad here if you look at the back of the body I think I mentioned
04:58this when we looked at lightning lad that there seemed to be a lot of little
05:00markers here that indicated that this figure may have been used from before I
05:03also maybe guessed it was Beast Boy but if you're looking at the arms you're
05:07looking at the legs and you're looking at the torso they seem to be identical I
05:11know I know it's obviously not identical because what they did do differently for
05:14John Kent is that they actually did sculpt the Superman emblem into his
05:18chest they didn't just print it in place so if this was the starting point and
05:22then they had to change then over to dry lightning lad they obviously would
05:25have just stripped away or probably would have just started they may
05:28probably have like a whole bin of the the mold the defaulted molds that don't
05:32have anything sculpted on the top of them or I mean a lot of times now they
05:35could be also 3d printing these so they basically just already have the
05:38blueprints in place and then they just decide for themselves okay let's just
05:42put the emblem in there instead so again like similar arms the only thing I will
05:46say though is that that seems different is the trunks the trunks for John Kent
05:50actually does have a belt obviously lightning lad never had that but you can
05:54also see that with the wrinkles the wrinkles are a lot more there for John
05:57that they weren't there as well for lightning lad so the trunks are different
06:01but the legs seem to be the same and I mean like one even the telltale signs
06:05too is when we looked at lightning lad he had this little additional sculpting
06:09on top of his boot that happens to be the original place of origin right here
06:13on Jonathan Kent's boots so again like even though they are using a lot of the
06:17same mold for the fact that we get ourselves two figures for the really the
06:20price of one mold it's not a bad thing at all of course the colors are really
06:24good on this guy nice and bright I depending on where you like what comics
06:28you end up reading of John Kent a lot of times I know it's like his belt seems to
06:32be a little bit more of a darker gold or maybe even like a darker shade of the
06:35yellow than what we're getting treated here there's a lot of primary colors
06:38happening yet the brighter blues you got really nice bright reds bright yellows
06:42there also as well and even the red that he has in the middle of his belt decent
06:45sculpting overall the one thing about this figure though is that he does have
06:49these socket joints now we already know if you've collecting enough of these
06:52already know the territory that we're about to cover they don't so much
06:54provide any additional levels of posability but what they do though do is
06:58hide the articulation so where like the shoulder will attach on to the torso the
07:02only thing about this though is that with mine at least and I'm sure it's
07:05probably gonna be across the board too these sockets tend to swivel a lot if
07:09you have them down the way that they should be you get kind of a consistent
07:13look to the emblem of his torso so it carries off then onto the shoulders but
07:17then when you moving his arms sometimes ends up shifting these around and then
07:20it just breaks up the sculpt so you may find yourself I found myself several
07:23times doing this just rotating the cup joint back in place so again you got the
07:28more consistent look at the red for the figures articulation I don't know why
07:32I'm doing this now with the arm for the figures articulation and start first
07:35with his head sculpt head rotates all the way around it looks up it looks down
07:39and you can also move it back and forth as well the upper torso is yes gonna be
07:43on a ball joint if further down from that you can also believe the figure
07:46does have an abdomen ball joint the arms rotate all the way around on both
07:49sides you can bring them easily out at 90 degrees figure does have a swivel in
07:53his bicep as well a double hinge on his elbow
07:55oops let's not just well we just drop the hand I'll have to go back I'll have
07:59to go back and get that again let's just put the closed fist in placement and pop
08:03it all the way in place hands will rotate back and forth just make sure you
08:06don't lose any other hands I can see it it's it's down there legs split out now
08:11the thing about the the trunks here and I didn't maybe even notice it as much
08:14with lightning lad when you bring his legs forward definitely does start to
08:18bunch up the trunks I've noticed though with Kent when you bring his legs
08:22forward there seems to be a lot more resistance it's almost as if they're
08:26using a little bit more of a harder plastic it's still soft but I don't
08:30think maybe it's at the soft level of lightning lad sorry lightning lad that
08:33we're talking about your soft groin anyways though it seems like a little
08:36bit more of a harder plastic and because of that it seems like it's more of a
08:39harder job to try to bring his legs forward and back maybe not as much back
08:43certainly a lot more for further forward like swivel at the top of the
08:46thigh double hinge on the knee of course you got the ankle articulation both back
08:50and forth rocking you also got an ankle pivot there too and the figure does also
08:53have toe articulation although it's really tight in this figure mentioning
08:58this just before I forget the figure does also have pegs on the bottoms of
09:01his feet nice-looking overall John Kent the figure again one of the main reasons
09:06why that sort of lit the fire underneath me to have a look at this figure even
09:09though I've had this figure in my collection for a little bit was more so
09:11to just to do with the fact that we already had a look at lightning lad now
09:15we will already be looking we looked at lightning lad before I will be also
09:18looking at the platinum additional lightning lad that has the colors more
09:20the classic look to the comics but again one of the main reasons why I wanted to
09:24go back and look at John Kent I figured that was still sealed in my collection
09:27was more just to do with the fact that I wanted to do the comparison and say like
09:30yeah in fact he is using a lot of the elements that lightning lad had even
09:35though like lightning lad is the newer figure you can see again like he borrows
09:38a lot of it from the former origin the former carrier of this mold John Kent
09:44it's not to say that John Kent is the first figure that has had this mold I'm
09:48sure it's probably been used a couple of times already but you can definitely see
09:50there's a lot of markers here little indicators like on these tops of the
09:54shoulders for example there's a little line cuts there right here where you can
09:57see like that would have been the red section there for John Kent clearly is
10:00the marker there as well you can see there with the boots that also would
10:03have been ones that got carried over from John Kent again while it is using
10:07the same mold for the most part other than just a bit of tooling difference
10:10when it comes to his torso essentially it's still in the end gives us two brand
10:14new characters and again I don't think that's a bad thing at all if a company
10:17can get the most mileage what I don't want though is I don't want one mold
10:20being used for like 50 different figures but if you're gonna be getting like like
10:24five six molds maybe ten molds tops and then through those ten molds you can get
10:28different characters again I don't think that's a bad thing at all when it comes
10:33to John Kent and his comic accurate costume for the most part it is there
10:37is though one oversight that I did notice when I was looking at other
10:39images of the character online is that the length of the boot does seem to
10:43change but more times than not the boots a little bit more of a half calf length
10:47as opposed to the shorter boots that they sculpted here instead it still
10:51though means that we're getting in this mold get carried over again to the
10:54lightning lad technically lightning lad was the later released figure so he
10:58borrowed a lot of the traits all of the traits from John Kent the head sculpt on
11:01this one is really quite good I like the coloring that they chose for the
11:04eyes as opposed to just using the white pupils the darker eyes give him a little
11:07bit more of an alien look and that works quite well for the character the colors
11:11are nice and bright it doesn't have really much in the way of an accessory
11:14count other than just again some swappable hands don't worry I retrieved
11:17the other one and he also comes a clue with a flight stand because they
11:20probably included the flight stand and countered that as what one of the things
11:24towards the budget of producing this figure meant that unfortunately he had
11:27to sacrifice some other accessories but character like this anyways I can't
11:31think in my head like if I was to close my eyes and think like what other
11:33accessories what I include with John Kent I can't really think of anything
11:36other than maybe some heat ray vision effects but then again that would
11:40jeopardize the sculpting of the face leave it be leave it be it the way it is
11:44I think just a flight stand and a trading card is more than enough for
11:47what a character like this should really have what do you guys don't think of DC
11:50future state Jonathan Kent now again we this figures been out for a bit so I'm
11:54finally getting around to having a look at him again you can really thank
11:56lightning lad because we looked at the more recent lightning lad had me more
