00:00Amazon, the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto-Fratin,
00:13visited the Operations Innovation Lab in Vercelli, the first Amazon hub in Europe,
00:18where innovative tools are being tested for the reduction and automation of packaging.
00:24The purpose of the visit is to highlight the importance of public-private collaboration
00:28for innovation in the field of sustainable packaging.
00:32The Operations Innovation Lab is equipped with advanced robotics and innovations
00:36based on artificial intelligence in order to reduce the ecological footprint in the field of packaging.
00:42Amazon is also testing bio-based envelopes made with plant materials
00:47that can be recycled for the creation of new envelopes,
00:50developed by the Italian company Novamont by Versalis Group Eni.
00:55In 2024, Amazon has also introduced a new packaged envelope
00:59equipped with a flexible coating capable of cushioning impacts based 100% on paper.
01:04I believe that this is already a synergy
01:08because companies like Amazon, which are highly innovative,
01:14which are very modern, which do internal research for innovation continuously,
01:21I believe they have a future.
01:23Italy is at the heart of Amazon's innovation and experimentation,
01:27as demonstrated by this Innovation Lab here in Vercelli.
01:31It is a global lab where a team of scientists and engineers from all over the world
01:37develop new technologies in the field of robotics, mechatronics, artificial intelligence,
01:43machine learning, automated packaging machines,
01:47but also increasingly sustainable new materials and packaging,
01:51which therefore not only improve safety in the world of work,
01:55but also improve our environmental impact.
01:58A collaboration with an excellent player like Amazon,
02:02which reaches millions of people around the world,
02:05is an extraordinary opportunity for us to introduce
02:09the solutions for packaging in Mater B,
02:13and also a unique opportunity to test its effectiveness
02:17and the multiple recycling solutions.
02:20In terms of resource regeneration and certified environmental performance.
02:26Some of the main players in the sector and partners of Amazon
02:30were also present at the visit and at the meeting that followed.
02:34In addition to Novamont, Comieco and the cartographic federation,
02:38the Netcom consortium, Grifal and EIS, European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability,
02:43which highlighted the importance of public-private dialogue
02:46to achieve European decarbonisation goals.
02:49Also through innovation in the packaging sector.
