00:00Former Prime Minister Najib Razak told the High Court today that the U.S. Democratic

00:05Party collaborated with the Malaysian opposition at the time to topple his government.

00:10Testifying in his 1MDB trial, Najib said the collaboration saw the U.S. Department of Justice

00:15bringing a civil forfeiture action to recover more than $1 billion in assets linked to 1MDB

00:21in 2016.

00:22It also resulted in the U.S. authorities refusing to provide key documents which would help

00:27his defense in the present case, he said.

00:29He said the DOJ wanted to protect this exculpatory evidence as it would directly rebut allegations

00:34raised in the civil forfeiture suit filed in 2016.

00:38He said he believes the forfeiture action was politically motivated and orchestrated

00:41as part of a collaboration between the U.S. Democratic Party and the then-opposition party

00:46coalition in order to effect a regime change in Malaysia.

00:50Najib is facing 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering involving alleged 1MDB

00:55funds of 2.28 billion ringgit deposited in his AmBank accounts between February 2011

01:01and December 2014.
