Aaron Brown and David McPhie talk about the creation of the Made In Chesterfield compilation CDs project.
Transcript
00:00Three, four years ago we'd had this idea about compiling some CDs of Chesterfield
00:07bands, solo artists, going back to the 1930s basically, so all genres, dance
00:13bands, to rock, to folk, to blues, to everything. And we spent that time compiling it
00:20and persuading people to write 200 words about themselves, which has been a bit of
00:24a pain sometimes, hasn't it? Yeah. But we finally got there and this is now two
00:29CDs and a booklet, and we're quite proud of the booklet, aren't we? Yeah, really proud of it, yeah.
00:34With 200 words from all the 40 artists and some words from you, from me, from
00:39yourself, in fact. Phil Bramley. The person behind the camera. Yeah, Phil Bramley, Kevin Blankley,
00:44Stuart Smith, Roger Book, Pete Dartie. Yeah, it's, it's, you've been
00:52absolutely overwhelmed, thanks to the Derbyshire Times help actually. Yes, thank you for that.
00:56So yeah, absolutely overwhelmed. At one point I went down to Torquay and took
01:02everything and put an Excel spreadsheet together and we thought, my
01:08God, this is gonna be like 15 CDs or something by the time it's done. So
01:12anyway, I had a bit of a meltdown. We kind of... You went to Mexico. I went to Mexico and
01:19forgot about it for a little bit, but then we realised, let's just do a bit at
01:24a time. So, so we've, we've compiled, we've put 40 of some of the best on there, but
01:32there's some of the best to come as well. There will be subsequent future
01:37albums as well and yeah, we just can't wait to get it all out there for everyone.
01:42What interesting things have you found out about the Chesterfield music scene?
01:46Diverse, very diverse. And on these two CDs, we've got 1935 Yodeler, we've got a country artist, we've got you in a choir.
01:57Yeah, yeah, I'm in the choir. Yeah, I'm in the choir on there in Washington, yeah.
02:00Football songs and obviously lots of rock bands, punk, wand, jazz band. Bit of folk. Folk, etc.
02:09Basically, all across the genres. Were you amazed at the depth of musical talent in Chesterfield then?
02:15Not really, because I go back a long way, so I've seen a lot of it, but yeah, we were quite surprised, weren't we, how much was available.
02:22Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah.
02:25And this afternoon's a celebration of both the CDs and musical heritage in Chesterfield.
02:30Yeah, the legacy.
