00:13The Philippine Statistics Authority says 405 out of the 677 signatories and Vice President
00:19Tata Duterte's Confidential Fund Acknowledgement Receipts are non-existent.
00:24Kandlaon Volcano is placed on Alert Level 3 after an explosive eruption.
00:29South Korean President Yoon Seok-yool survives impeachment.
00:33Syria's Bashar al-Assad flees to Russia after Syrian rebels take over Damascus.
00:38And Notre Dame Cathedral reopens five years after the fire.
01:00The Philippine Statistics Authority says three in every five signatories of the Confidential
01:06Fund Acknowledgement Receipts submitted by the Education Department under Vice President
01:10Tata Duterte are non-existent.
01:13House Good Government Committee Chairperson Joel Chua reveals this during the committee's
01:17final hearing on December 9.
01:19Lawmakers have been flagging the questionable signatures in the DepEd and OVP's Acknowledgement
01:41Receipts submitted to the Commission on Audit.
01:44Last week, the PSA said Kokoy Villamin, a name appearing in the DepEd and OVP Acknowledgement
01:49Receipts with varying handwriting, yielded zero results in its database.
01:54During Monday's hearing, House Assistant Majority Leader Azia Adiong also flagged other signatories,
02:00namely Alice Cresencio, Sally Rendon, Sheila Dado, and Milky Secuya.
02:05The PSA earlier confirmed another alleged Acknowledgement Receipts signatory, Mary Grace
02:10Piatos, is also non-existent.
02:13In total, Duterte's offices disbursed Php 612.5 million from 2022 to 2023.
02:20Her alleged misuse of confidential funds are cited in two separate impeachment complaints
02:25against her.
02:28An explosive eruption at Candlaon Volcano in Negros Island on Monday afternoon, December
02:339, raised the Volcano Monitoring to Alert Level 3.
02:36The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, or PHIVOX, says that the explosive
02:41eruption happened at 3.03 PM, producing a voluminous plume that climbed up to 4,000
02:46meters above the summit vent.
02:48PHIVOX also says that Pyroclastic Density Currents, or PDCs, descended the slopes on
02:53the general southeastern edifice of the volcano.
02:57The agency raises Candlaon from Alert Level 2, indicating increasing unrest, to Alert
03:02Level 3, indicating magmatic unrest.
03:05PHIVOX warns that this indicates the start of a magmatic eruption that could lead to
03:09more explosive eruptions.
03:12The agency also advises the local government units within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano
03:17to begin evacuations.
03:21South Korean President Yoon Seok-yol survives an impeachment vote in parliament on Saturday,
03:26December 7, prompted by a short-lived attempt to impose martial law last week.
03:31Yoon's People Power Party boycotted the impeachment vote put forward by the main opposition, and
03:36the motion was crapped.
03:38PPP leader Hang Dong-hoon said the party had decided that Yoon would resign.
03:43Yoon's martial law declaration plunged South Korea, Asia's fourth-largest economy and a
03:47key U.S. military ally, into its greatest political crisis in decades.
03:53Earlier on Saturday, Yoon addressed the nation to apologize and said he would face repercussions,
03:58though he did not offer to resign.
04:00Yoon said he would put his faith in the hands of his party.
04:04If Yoon leaves office before his single five-year term ends in May 2027, the constitution requires
04:09a presidential election within 60 days of his departure.
04:16Syrian rebels declared President Bashar al-Assad's ouster after seizing control of Damascus on
04:20Sunday, December 8, ending his family's iron-fisted rule after more than 13 years of civil war.
04:27This also deals a major blow to the influence of Russia and Iran in the region, key allies
04:32who propped up Assad.
04:33Assad flew out of Damascus on the day of the rebel takeover and had reportedly landed
04:38in Russia.
04:39The Syrian rebel coalition says it is working to complete the transfer of power to a transitional
04:43governing body.
04:45Western governments must grapple with how to deal with a new administration in which
04:49Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, has influence.
04:53HTS was a formal al-Qaeda affiliate known as the Nusra Front until its leader, Abu Mohammed
04:58al-Ghulani, severed ties with the jihadist movement in 2016.
05:03Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali says he's in contact with rebel commander al-Ghulani
05:08to discuss the transitional period.
05:13Paris' Notre-Dame Cathedral opens again on December 7, five and a half years after a
05:17fire destroyed its spire and roof.
05:20The 860-year-old medieval cathedral, a symbol of France and Paris, has been expertly rebuilt
05:26with a new spire and rib vaulting, flying buttresses and carved stone gargoyles reviving
05:31its former glory.
05:33French President Emmanuel Macron says the reopening would be as shocking as the fire,
05:37but it will be a shock of hope.
05:40The Notre-Dame Cathedral undergoes a five-year renovation, with thousands of expert craftspeople
05:44working tirelessly to restore and repair damaged parts.
05:48Macron's office says the renovation received 840 million euros, or about $882 million,
05:54from all over the world.
05:56The Catholic Church expects the cathedral to welcome 15 million visitors annually.
06:01Starting Saturday, visitors can book a free ticket online, on its website, social media,
06:06a dedicated app, or a queue on the spot.
06:09The cathedral also built an app for self-guide visits.
