"In my opinion the new law is excessive," says Morgan Ishak, visiting Milan days before a new ban on outdoor smoking comes into force. On January 1, 2025, the measure will ban the use of cigarettes in all public outdoor areas, including city streets, bars and cafes, unless it is possible to keep a distance of at least 10 metres between people, with a fine of up to 240 euros for anyone caught in breach of the rule.

00:30I am a smoker, but with the new law I see it a bit excessive, because it is okay not to
00:54smoke in a closed environment, it is okay not to smoke near an elderly person or children.
00:59But to avoid it in the open limits the freedom of a person.
01:05For me it is a bit excessive as a law.
01:09So, I make a premise, I have never been in the smoking life.
01:14I just learned about the application of the regulation, I agree very much, because
01:19smoke affects the pollution a lot.
01:24And honestly, in this time, where we suffer a lot and the climate change, I think that
01:31such a provision can help and support the redimension of the devastating effects on the planet.
01:40It remains unchanged, because if you have the habit, you continue to smoke,
01:46depending on the distance you have to keep.
01:51But from an environmental point of view, I agree, because respect for others
01:59who are around, especially for children, is good.
