00:00Previously named Mal Moto due to the fact that the only piece of luggage competitors
00:10were allowed to take with them was a Mal, the French term for box or trunk.
00:15The Original by Motul category refers to bikes competitors competing without any kind of
00:20assistance.
00:21As such a specific competition rule applies for competitors under this category, the race
00:26organisation through its partnership with Motul commits to play the role of an assistance
00:31team for the competitors of this category.
00:34This consists of a team dedicated to transport competitors Mal between bivouac sites, as
00:39well as any additional equipment and belongings allowed under the rules of the category.
00:45This includes two sets of complete wheels, one sleeping tent, a travel bag and four sets
00:50of tyres.
00:52Other than this, competitors in this class receive absolutely no help and have to look
00:56after the mechanical upkeep of their own bike and fix any mechanical problems themselves.
01:01They constantly fight against lack of preparation, lack of sleep, lack of maintenance and hope
01:06that none of these forces them out of the rally.
01:10As a result, a very strong bond of camaraderie exists within the group of competitors, often
01:14working through the night to help each other make it to the starting line of the next day's
01:18race.
01:19For this reason, these adventurers often personify the spirit of the Dakar.
