00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Monday morning, which has a
00:05lot of weather out there in terms of snow, ice, as well as rain and strong
00:10winds. There are numerous warnings across the country. For more details of those
00:14warnings, check out our Met Office website or go to our weather app. But
00:18certainly, if you are driving this morning, watch out for snow and ice. A lot
00:23of snow cover across particularly central and northern areas of Scotland
00:26and also some snow which was persistent overnight across central and eastern
00:30areas of Scotland. An ice warning for Northern Ireland. An ice warning extends
00:35down across northern England as well as northern parts of Wales and again snow
00:39cover particularly over the higher ground here. And further south, we do have
00:43a rain warning. The rain has been persistent overnight. It is clearing
00:47towards the east. So as we head through today, it's going to be a cold one. You'll
00:53need to wrap up warm if you are out and about with a significant wind chill. The
00:57wind will always be a feature of the weather. Through the day, temperatures
01:00only slowly rising. Low pressure remains in charge, so we will see showery bursts
01:06which will have a wintry feel to it as we head through the afternoon. And there
01:10will be a little bit of drier weather coming through, particularly away from
01:14the centre of low pressure towards the west. So let's take a look at the detail.
01:17If you are stepping out first thing this morning, let's see what you have in
01:22store. Certainly some tricky driving conditions through the first part of the
01:26day across many parts of the country with that driving wind and also those
01:30snow showers. A mix of rain and snow along the coastline. Towards the southeast,
01:34still some snow around here. We have wintry showers moving in across Northern
01:38Ireland, extending down towards Irish Sea coast. And here a mix of rain along the
01:43coast but still some snow over the higher ground. Some heavier pulses of
01:47rain towards the southeast. It's a wet start across the East Midlands as well
01:50as eastern counties of England. Also the eastern side of Northern England with
01:55that driving wind. So a lot of wet weather, surface water. We have seen some
02:00localised flooding overnight and some heavy showers extending down the western
02:04side as we head through the day. Those showers will be snow over the higher
02:08ground in particular but even at lower levels inland across Scotland. So further
02:12accumulations are likely here and it remains quite tricky on the roads as we
02:17head through the afternoon across the far southeast of Scotland. Northeast
02:20England well as well with that strong wind and also those wintry showers. So
02:26they could become persistent from time to time. Hanging on to temperatures
02:30around 9 Celsius for East Anglia but elsewhere it's 2, 3, 4 Celsius, 6 down
02:36towards the south. So a colder day all round and that leads into a cold night
02:41with the risk of frost and also the risk of ice. Further wintry showers are
02:46likely particularly towards the west pushing in across the Welsh borders
02:51towards the western side of the Midlands and then eventually pushing ever
02:55eastwards. A mix of rain, a little snow associated with it as well and
02:59persistent showers towards the north and again the risk of snow especially inland.
03:05A mix of rain and snow along the coast with the driving wind gales across
03:09Shetland as well as a far northeastern tip of mainland Scotland. Temperatures
03:13here through the day coming in around 2 to 4 or 5 degrees Celsius. A little
03:17sunshine as well to end the day. Here's your outlook through Wednesday. Now
03:22towards the south an area of rain will bump into the cold air. At the moment
03:26there is a risk we could see some snow on its northern edge. We'll keep you
03:29posted here so check out our YouTube channel and we'll keep you updated
03:33through the next few days on that snow and rain situation towards the far south.
03:37For now though take care and I'll see you again soon.
