Dr. Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer is the Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Palestine in New Delhi. With a PhD in Political Science from Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia, he has a distinguished career spanning over three decades as a journalist. He has worked with various media organisations. His experience in journalism and academic expertise have contributed to his current diplomatic role, where he represents Palestinian interests in India. He shares with Outlook about what is happening in Gaza. He said, there is a severe food crisis in Gaza as no consignment of wheat is allowed to enter Gaza, and bakeries are unable to operate. International aid convoys, including those from the United Nations, have been targeted. Such attacks have made it increasingly difficult to provide food for the people. This is a form of political pressure. Despite entering the 21st century, Palestinians are still suffering from the same types of aggression we have seen for decades.

00:00We as a Palestinian, we are as civilians, we are also looking at all people on the ground,
00:05they are asking and requesting to reach as soon as possible, cease firing in Gaza to
00:12stop the war and because their lives became very difficult.
00:16Palestinian activities from male or female, they record in their mobile, they use their
00:21social media, Instagram or Facebook or other platforms to show the world what is going
00:27on on the ground and the details.
00:29And I think this personal social media, it's became influence in this war that the voices
00:36around the world like the protest in the States and in the Western and everywhere to gathering
00:42and show their support to the Palestinian people.
00:50Hello and welcome to Outlook.
00:51Today we have with us Dr. Abdul Razik Abu Jazza, Charles I at the Embassy of the State
00:57of Palestine in New Delhi.
00:59We'll be talking to him on the present humanitarian situation in Gaza, the possibility of ceasefire
01:06and the role of Arab world in de-escalating the conflict in the region.
01:11Let us start, what's the situation in Gaza right now?
01:14First of all, Mr. Tariq and Outlook magazine and your staff, so thank you so much for your
01:21initiative to invite me to rise the voice of Palestinian people and to discuss together
01:27about the situation and ongoing war on the ground.
01:31The situation in Gaza, replying to your questions, everyone knows that we are completely one
01:39year of the Israel aggression on Gaza.
01:42And this war is different of that several wars in Gaza before.
01:48This war is a genocide war.
01:51And the second thing, and this war actions, all details, has happened live.
01:55People can see all details of the war through the social media platforms, through the different
02:01types of media, people displacement, hunger people, the living in tent, and all different
02:11aggression on the civilian people.
02:14We can see all of the infrastructures in Gaza, almost of the houses are already destroyed
02:21from Rafah to the Beit Lahya in the north, mosques, schools, universities, and also they
02:29not bombing the central building, they are also targeting the infrastructures of the
02:36human being of Palestinian people, like doctors, professors, ulama, sports, all types of life
02:46in Gaza targeting from Israel side.
02:51In this humanitarian crisis, what stories are emerging?
02:56There are no more operational hospitals, there is no food to survive, how are people?
03:04See, they use all types of pressure as their initiatives, you know, they kill everything,
03:13every life in Gaza.
03:15If you go for a humanitarian, exactly, homes is a humanitarian, mosque is a humanitarian,
03:2335 hospitals completely destroyed, you know, ambulances is destroyed, schools, universities
03:30buildings, you know, and students from universities, students from the secondary school, we have
03:37also at least, this is second year, a new generation of students, they cannot join the
03:44school for the first class, for essential education, you know.
03:48So all this, and food, they use also the food, to more pressure, like there is not allow
03:55for wheat to enter Gaza, and they didn't give the wheat for bakeries, they target the international
04:04kitchen staff, they target trucks who's carrying aids to Gaza, these trucks is UN trucks, you
04:12know.
04:13Yesterday, the UN announced that it will be stop to entrance trucks to Gaza, because the
04:23Israelis target the trucks and the drivers, and they use this food needed for the people,
04:29and make them hunger, and as a political pressure, you know, these types, I think, is backing
04:38with us to the long time of the old wars, you know, we are in the century 21, but sorry
04:47to that same times, it's still going on with the Palestinian people.
04:51But since you had been a journalist for the past three decades, what do you think, since
04:55international media is not allowed to enter in the territory, what stories would emerge
05:01once they are allowed to enter Gaza?
05:04One of the Israeli targeting is to stop rising any voice from Gaza, going out of Gaza.
05:12This is one type, also, other types of the aggressions.
05:16If I can mention, we can say, we record at least 200 journalists killed by the Israeli
05:23soldiers in Gaza, and second thing is, they are not allowed international media to come
05:29to Gaza, because they are already destroying the Rafah border with Egypt, so how they
05:35can come?
05:36They only allow Israeli media to come to Gaza with the IDF, you know, because they want
05:43to rise only their initiative, you know, their reports, you know, their story, they want
05:50to only to rise on the world and out of Palestinian story.
05:55So, I think is when the media is coming, I think hundreds or thousands of media, international
06:02media will come to Gaza since they allow to come, if we are a ceasefire, international
06:08media will rise, more will write and explain and cover the huge of a story, human being
06:14story, destroying, every story, it has different contents and suffering of Palestinian people.
06:23So, the media which we are already saw, it's on the Baltiform, they are Palestinian activities
06:30from male or female, they record in their mobile, they use their social media, Instagram
06:36or Facebook or other Baltiforms to show the world what is going on on the ground and the
06:42details.
06:43And I think this personal social media, it's became influence in this world that the voices
06:50around the world like the protest in the States and in the Western and everywhere to
06:55gathering and show their support to the Palestinian people, they saw the videos, they saw the
07:00Baltiforms of the Palestinian activities and we expect that a huge number of media will
07:07come to Gaza with different stories when it's situation is allowed them to come, you know.
07:15What compelled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to go for a ceasefire with Lebanon?
07:21And will it also pave way for a ceasefire in Gaza?
07:25See, he's targeting Lebanon, same like targeting Gaza, he wants and he's planned to divided
07:35the united position between Lebanon and Palestine because they show their support and they come
07:42to support Palestine practically on the ground with their fight the Israelis in the north.
07:48The situation in Lebanon is also hard negotiation is happened between the leaders countries
07:55like France and United States and also Lebanon, maybe Iran, maybe Israel and all to reach
08:03this ceasefire for 60 days and still the situation is still not comfortable.
08:10The wars can resume anytime.
08:13Now they are speaking about same, there is a high of speak about the expectation to reach
08:22ceasefire in Gaza.
08:24These voices is coming from Israel side and some sources, Arab sources and the media Wall
08:31Street Journal and some American media and I think as you heard that elected President
08:39Trump is asking Netanyahu to reach a deal or ceasefire and exchange prisons with the
08:46hostage before he's got his chair in 20th of January.
08:51We as a Palestinian, we are as civilians, we are also looking and all people on the
08:55ground they are asking and requesting to reach as soon as possible ceasefire in Gaza to stop
09:02the war and because their life became very difficult and all types of life and we are
09:09entering to the winter, how problems in the living and yesterday in his prestige letter,
09:16Prime Minister of India also in his letter to annual letter to on the day of solidarity
09:24with Palestinian people, Prime Minister of India is also he's called for ceasefire as
09:29soon as possible and he's also show his support to state solution and to committed also for
09:37giving all support to development to the Palestinians people.
09:44We also respect this and the war should work together, you know, from India to America
09:50to Arab world to stop this ceasefire and to back again to the peace process, you know,
09:56because peace is a benefit for all nations and all religions and
10:01stabilities for the West Asia region and the Middle East.
10:06How do you view the role of Arab nation, particularly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in
10:12addressing the Palestinian issue vis-a-vis Iranian regime's role in this regard?
10:17See also all the Arab position is show through the declarations and the speech in the two,
10:28I think two meeting hosted in Riyadh for Arab countries and Muslim countries about
10:36war in Gaza and all the presidents, all the representative from the head of the missions,
10:43head of the states or others, they speak about, they call for ceasefire, they speak about peace,
10:49they speak about the Palestinians, right? So, I think it's Arab, it's a same position of
10:55Palestinians and if you go back to the Arab initiative for peace, this initiative is called
11:02for peace that the Arab is ready to full normalization with Israel if they stay,
11:09they given a Palestinian state on 1967, you know, this is a special initiative, you know, but the
11:15Israelis is deny this initiative and they refuse to go on one step to implement the initiative
11:22or accept or also to implement what is they are already sign in Oslo Accord 1993.
11:31So, if you go back, if you are remembering, since we have our current president Mahmoud Abbas,
11:38when he's elected 2005 after Yasser Arafat, the leader Yasser Arafat is passed away, since 2005
11:45till now, there is no any life you can show in the peace process, no any meeting, no any
11:51negotiations, no anything implement on the ground. It is not only in Gaza, what is going on in this
11:57world, it is same aggression in the West Bank, you know, and settlements and divided cities
12:03and making the cities like gated communities, you know, checkpoint, arrested, killing, you know,
12:09same policy, if there is another different types, but the killing and still going on, you know,
12:15killing is for peace and killing on the ground to target civilians, you know.
12:20Soon after the truce agreement with Lebanon, conflict began in Syria, where so-called Islamic
12:28militants are trying to topple or weaken Assad regime. How do you see its effect
12:35on the ongoing conflict in Gaza? I think there is a plan, you know,
12:42there is, you know, these things which target Syria and it's targeting the country, the
12:49stabilities of the countries, you know, as Arab countries, you know, and these things is happening
12:55in the same time on Gaza war and what is still going on in Lebanon, you know, so we are
13:03united Syria for us as a Palestinian and Arab, united Syria and stability Syria, it's good for
13:10us, it means, you know, stability for all of the Arab countries, because any collapse in these
13:16countries, it is not meaning the country itself, it will be effect and influence the others,
13:21neighbors, because we are one nation. If there is anything and any requirement for any people,
13:29I think is the policies is going through elections, through civilian activities, you know,
13:35but war and internal war, it will be influence all of the Arab country and the security of the
13:41Arab country and also absolutely the security in the all the region, you know.
13:47There are talks about Israel's plan to divide Gaza or transfer the control of the Palestinian
13:54enclave to Fatah, your comment on that? See, this is not secret, you know, they have
14:01general's plans to cut the north and they cut the south and to divide Gaza,
14:09this Gaza is a small place, it's 45 kilometer, you know, it's a beach area, you know, it's a
14:15beautiful area, what it was before, you know, after, before destroying and bombing, you know.
14:21Now, they have their military plans, their IDF plans, I think this is a plans, but the
14:29Palestinian people who still standing in their earth and they are standing in a very bad conditions
14:38and situations in their tents, even it is rains and it is widely and this standing is destroy
14:46all the Israelis plan and I think one of this plan not only divided the place and the land,
14:52they are also planning to push forward the Palestinians, which almost of them in Gaza
14:58refugees to go out of Gaza and making Gaza empty place and because they believe that this population
15:06it's for them is a dangerous and due strategic, dangerous for them as a population of Gaza 2.5.
15:15So, but these, all these policies, all these plans are destroyed by the standing and the
15:22powerful and the united of Palestinian people. As you mentioned that Gaza is small place,
15:29which is surrounded by sea and, but I mean that bombings and all, Gaza is also called
15:39a cage in the world, where there is no airport, no facilities, to enter that place you have to
15:48across so many checkpoints of the Israeli army. In that situation, even after a year of war,
15:56the IDF is not able to claim that it has concurred the territory. What the reason behind it? How do
16:03you see the role of the resistance force? It is coming as a right, even in day one and
16:11General Assembly's resolution resistance, it's one of the Palestinian rights, but the type of
16:17resistance, it's can decided by Palestinian people, what is a suitable now, what is good to do now,
16:22if resistance militaries or political resistance, it's coming through the Palestinian discussions,
16:29but resistance is one of the rights of Palestinian people, to get their rights, and
16:35types of the freedom of Palestinians national movement, it is same roots of the Indian,
16:41for example, Indian national movement, when the Indian is occupied by British is 200 years and
16:46more, Indian is used all resistance types to defend, and to request, and to achieve, and to
16:52implement their requirement, and their dreams, and they continuous types of resistance
16:59long years, till the years 1947, they are became independent, so Palestinians
17:05one types, and if you go back, the Indian national movement is, since it's working on the ground,
17:12they have its views, and discussions, and opinions to the Palestinian resistance, and they are
17:21showing all support, since the beginning to the Palestinian resistance, politically and militaries,
17:27so I think is without rich peace, real peace on the ground, and without implement,
17:36there is the UN resolution, and to establishment of the Palestinians
17:42independent states, with the East Jerusalem as a capital in 1967 border, as the world is said,
17:49as Oslo is said, as the logic is said, how you can speak with the new generation to stop their
17:55resistance, or not to resist, you cannot, this is their personal right, this is national right,
18:02and this is one of our nationalism, so an identity, so because of this, nobody can expect,
18:09and nobody can stop, and nobody can tell anything about this, till we reach the real
18:15state, Palestinian state, create on the ground. Why the Israel despite using all its might,
18:24despite using all its military might, has still not conquered the territory of Gaza?
18:31Reason is the confidence of Gaza, and the confidence of the people of Gaza, and the
18:38stand of the people of Gaza, and the united people of Gaza together, and because of this
18:44belief of their rights, not move out of Gaza, and still handing their positions,
18:53handing their united, and in their confidence together, and they are stopped aggression,
18:58and second thing is Israel use very high power for militaries, it's, I think it is not only
19:06message for Palestinians, it's message for the area, and message to the Arab world, who's can
19:12think, any of the Arab world, any of the countries can think, or imagine that they can target Israel
19:21militaries, and it will be the same sample of what is going on to the Palestinians, you know,
19:28it's a message, and also what happens to Lebanon, and they use the aircraft, and bombing,
19:35it's a message to the Arab world, capitals, or if anyone of your, this capital can think that you
19:40will own a war to Israel, or fight Israel, it will be like this, you know, capitals, you know, and
19:45I think is also, they want to rebuild again the image of Israel as a sources of securities,
19:52the image of sample of securities countries, and strong countries in the Middle East,
19:57after what happened to them in 7th of October, you know, so they want to rebuild the structures
20:03of the Israel image, you know, because they believe that this attack, it's broken this image,
20:09you know, as a sample of securities, as a samples of powers in the area, you know, in the region,
20:15how can rebuild this image, and rebuild structures of their place, and you know, presence through
20:21this game, they think. Given the role of Iranian regime in this conflict, do you think that it's
20:30high time for the Arab nation to normalize relation with Iran? They have, I think, this is
20:36an international question for you can ask the Arab countries, you know, we as a Palestinians, is my
20:43views, you know, I think, I think, you know, it is not analysis, you know, we can see this on the
20:48ground, almost of the Arab country, they have diplomatic relation, they have embassies, they
20:53have multilateral relations, they have trade relations, you know, and they have state visits,
20:59it's a changing state visits, and we are as a Palestinians also, we have embassy in Tehran,
21:05and we have relation with Iran, you know, so the truth on the ground, you know,
21:12and all we need as a Palestinians from South America, to Muslim countries, to the Arab world,
21:17to the African countries, to Asian countries, to the freedom movement, we are looking, we are
21:22working with all to reach and implement our independent state and to reach our rights, you
21:29know, so we work with all, you see the protest, and you see South American positions, you can
21:35see South Africa position, you can see Malaysian, and Indonesian, and Indian, so we work with all
21:43to get implement and achieve our goals. How do you see the overall role of the OIC
21:51in raising the Palestinian issue on international fora? Yes, OIC, it's called for many meeting
21:59in the level of foreign ministers, and also they issue many declaration also to as a united voice,
22:07a warning from the war, call for ceasefire, call for peace, showing their support in the speech,
22:14in the declaration, and the OIC and other blocs, Arab, or Muslim, or Gulf, or GCC, or Arab League,
22:23and all they are working as a small group, political regional group, and they work with
22:30other multilateral group around the world to rise the Palestinian voice, and to work for
22:36to reach ceasefire, or to implement the agreement, or for political solutions, you know, these blocs,
22:46we are one of them, you know, because Palestinian cause is already their cause, we are their cause,
22:53Muslim cause, Arab cause, you know, African cause, freedom cause, you know,
23:01justified cause, you know. Do you expect more escalation after President-elect Donald Trump
23:07takes over in January 2025? A large section of Palestinians consider him a solid backer
23:15of Israel, and who in the past recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, ignoring the
23:22UN Charter. See, we hope that a new era of elected President Trump, which will be different
23:29of the 2016, you know, we hope this, you know, let us to wait and see, we believe of what we can
23:38sense, what we can touch, not in the speech, you know, his speech to stop the war, let us
23:43to see, and Muslim communities in some state, they void to him, you know, based on his
23:50asking and his promising to stop the war in Gaza or in Lebanon, let us to see what is his foreign
23:57policy, and what is his can do and implement on the ground and his, this speech on this,
24:04his belief, you know, we believe of the practical things, not only the speech. So, let us to see,
24:09you know. How do you see the role of India in this conflict? Do you think that India has deviated
24:16from his historical position on the state of Palestine? We didn't want to open these big
24:24questions now, but we are now on Israel aggression on war, India is have excellent relations with
24:32both with the Palestinian leaders, with the Israeli side. So, we hope India and the Prime
24:38Minister of India can take initiative, you know, to work with the other blocks in the world and
24:43multilateral with the two sides to stop the war. And India is can present its own initiative to
24:51reach ceasefire and to reach peace. India can also call for peace conference and India is can,
24:58if we need ceasefire after sometimes, we hope India can, we are also looking to see Indian flag
25:04in Gaza in many projects like hospitals, schools, and to many types of assistance, you know, in Gaza,
25:13side to side with other countries, because we as Palestinians, we are not looking to India as
25:20a normal and classical relationship or a normal country, you know, India is a landmark country,
25:26international platforms, India is looking to be a permanent seat in the Security Council,
25:33we already support this Indian requesting and Indian calling. Also, based on the principle of
25:40Indian foreign policy and the historic, the roots of the historic relationship with the Palestinians,
25:46we are looking and considering for much Indian influence role in the area, you know, in the
25:53political things, and in the development things, you know, what is the Palestinians need, you know.
25:59Sir, tell us about the psychological impact of the continuous air strikes in Gaza on children.
26:07You know, it's psychologically very bad, and I think these huge of diseases, different and
26:15special diseases and special cases of diseases will be after the war to settle in. Why? Because,
26:22you know, we have 1,500 families already declared from the registers, civilians record, you know,
26:33completely died, you know, and we have also, we have samples of fathers whose only still
26:40life and all families lost. We have one girl or one boy and all his family is lost.
26:46After the war, it will be real war, because people now, all of people is under pressure,
26:53shock. So, details will be shown after the war is stopped. So, one type of this, it will be shown.
27:01Tell us about the role of United Nations and its failure in containing war or stopping war.
27:09United Nations is do all their best through political things in the hosted meeting,
27:18General Assemblies, and many meeting for Security Council. And the third thing is the speech and
27:25positions and the calling of the Secretary General's about all details of the war since
27:30the war is started. Second things, our third or fourth things is the role of the UNRWA on the
27:35ground to present and giving the different services to the Palestinians on the ground,
27:41like food or health care or schools or like this. You know, the Israelis right now, I think they
27:46are killed 200 UNRWA staff. They are already died, you know. Second thing, they targeting
27:54the school of UNRWA, whose the people, civilian is already displacement in these places, you know.
28:00And all the health care of UNRWA, you can see that it is a stop. School of UNRWA, it's a stop, you
28:06know. Aid, normal and usual aid to enter Gaza by UNRWA staff, it's not easy to allow and they are
28:15suffering. And one times, political times that the Israelis in 28th of October, Israel Parliament,
28:22Knesset, they announced their plans to UNRWA rule in Palestinians territories, you know. This is
28:29one time to target UNRWA and to stop their services to the Palestinians and to stop its
28:36influence and effect to serve the Palestinians. But let me here to mention, yesterday in the Prime
28:43Minister's message on the Day of Solidarity of Palestinian people, he's reaffirmed again that
28:49India will continue to support through United Nations like this. It means, I read it, that it is
28:55Indian position to continue to support UNRWA and this is good positions, you know. And I think
29:03it's the Israeli policy to ban UNRWA. This policy is failed by the United and by the position, the
29:10real and the practical position of the almost of the world who decided to contribute and
29:15to support UNRWA. Tell us about your family which is still stuck there. You know, my family is
29:21still stuck there in Gaza. I am from Rafah, I am from Gaza City, you know. I can say that we
29:28lost our four, I have farmhouse in Rafah, I think it's destroyed. My brothers in the United
29:34States, they are American, I think they lost their farmhouse. My father, he's 90 years, he's displacement
29:41to Khan Yunus. My latest brother, their sister is there. My own family, my madam and the three children,
29:48they are living in the war in Rafah since 7th of October till March. Then before the destroying
29:54of the Rafah border checkpoint with Egypt, they success to shift to Egypt and they back again
30:02to India. Now in November too, they reach here, but they have their special memorial about the
30:08bad days who they are spent in Rafah and they are worried also about their past and their
30:17memorial and their friends and their, you know, cities and all of the Gaza. So I call my father,
30:24it's difficult to catch him because of the bad connection. So he's 90, he's very worried, you know,
