Things get heated with Charles Barkley who does not agree with Jimmy Butler and his antics. He paints this entire situation as a "joy" issue when it's clearly money related.

00:00Charles Barkley yesterday weighed in on the Jimmy Butler drama after the NBA action,
00:06a fun night of NBA action around the league. Um, he has a problem with what Jimmy's doing.
00:13Well, I think you have a good pulse on Charles Barkley. Here was Chuck on Jimmy Butler.
00:18Jimmy Butler has always been the guy who says, if you don't come to practice and play hard,
00:23I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, I'm going to call you out. If you don't come to the games and play hard,
00:27I'm going to call you out. And now when he's in this position and then he's getting suspended
00:34because he feels like he doesn't want to, he doesn't have the energy to play hard when that
00:38has been his calling card. I remember the first contract that he got not play hard, not play hard.
00:43Just say he doesn't have joy. Oh no. First of all, that's total, but joy makes you play hard.
00:50This is not the podcast. I don't, I'm sorry. I apologize. I don't want to hear all that stuff.
00:54This is all about money. Of course it is. So don't tell me he locked no joy, all this. He
01:00wants a long term contract. He's going to make $55 million next year. There's a lot of bones
01:17making similar. You have a contract check. You don't get to say, unless you extend me,
01:23I'm just going to quit playing. He'd never say he's going to quit playing. Don't do it. He ain't
01:26got joy anymore, but I bet he'd get Joe. I'd be getting three more years. Jimmy Butler and quit.
01:32You can't even put that. That's my point. But when you say, but my point is man. All right. Wow.
01:41Check. He's right. He's right. He's right. Like, like it's like you say, we can't say it. Like
01:49we saw it. I don't have to say right. Like Chuck say you can't like, so what do we see?
01:56Like you guys really see it. Yeah. He really believed Jimmy Butler was taking one leg in
02:02threes and run to the corner. Cause he was just doing his job. He was playing his role.
02:10Nope. Not buying it. Here's where I am with this.
02:16Since when does not getting your money for two years from now have to do with you earning your
02:24money now? Right. A hundred percent. That's, that's the, that's where, that's the problem
02:29I'm having with this. Like, regardless of how much you hate your situation, regardless of how much
02:37you hate the fact you didn't get extended the way you wanted to, you are still making figures.
02:43You wanted to, you are still making $50 million this year. Shouldn't you have to play for that
02:4950 million? A hundred percent. And it feels to me like if all of this stuff behind the scenes
02:56is true, and it seems like this was pointing towards that he will only go to one team
03:00that will extend him and seems to basically be holding out to play until that one team gives
03:05him his extension. It kind of feels to me like Jimmy Butler is trying to protect his body.
03:09Like he doesn't want to get hurt, which kind of goes back to that weird OKC game where we saw him
03:14have a really nasty ankle twist. And then all of a sudden, nah, man, I was sick. It's like,
03:20well, I followed Jimmy Butler's career enough to know that when he has an ankle twist,
03:24he doesn't like coming back until he's fully healthy. And knowing that that can happen all
03:28the, a lot with him. Is it crazy to think that he doesn't want to jeopardize the idea that he has a
03:34potential team on the hook for $60 million for an extra year of $6 million. That's fine.
03:41And great. Okay. But you hinder that from happening. If you're not playing,
03:51you hinder it from you, you hinder it from happening in the mind of like normalcy of
03:57actually getting trades to move along because the team then has to suspend you for not trying.
04:01But in his mind, he's like, no, just trade me to the team that wants to pay me.
04:06Isn't, isn't that, that's a bad look. I'm not, I don't think
04:14at 35, is he being a little unaware of his situation or, or overly aware.
04:22Right. Cause if he says like, I better not go out there and show that I can't earn this
04:2660 million two years from now. Right. If, if, if he, if he goes out there and he gets hurt again,
04:33or if he goes out there and isn't quite as good, but if you're here, here's the, the, the problem
04:39with that, that you've already clarified what you're about when you say, I'm not going out
04:48there and play for 50 million and risk injury. So I can get 60 million two years from now.
04:55Right. But like, when, when did we, like, can you imagine going into work and saying that
05:02I'm going to take a bunch of days off now? Cause you guys want to extend me.
05:07If you want me to finish the rest of the show, I want $60 million, not now, but two years.
05:16Sorry. You feel that way.
05:18I'll see what I can know.
05:22So like, that's, I think that's the issue that I'm having with this. I don't have a problem with
05:30Jimmy being mad about the heat, not extended. I'd be irritated too. I'm not going to lie,
05:37but I do have a problem if he then decided, well, I'm not going to play this year because
05:45that's not even what he told us. Right. Cause it, it like in the worst case, if he did like,
05:50let's just say, God forbid, he had a season ending injury. It's not like you know,
05:55that doesn't have a safety net next year. He still got 52 million. Yeah. So it's like,
06:00but now it's kind of like, well, no, I want to make sure that this is maybe the last time people
06:04think of me as, as this guy to get the bag at the end when you know, you're not going to be that guy
06:11at 37 and the heat already said, no. Can I ask you a question? Why did you get so mad at me
06:19when I basically said the same things to you earlier? You just disagreed with you.
06:24I didn't get mad at you. But, but, but so now you're starting to say maybe even Jimmy feels
06:31the way that I, yeah. I mean, it seems like it does appear that that's what it is. Right. It
06:37does appear with that. That's what I was always under the, like, I, I guess naively was under the
06:43impression that he would come in here and play hard all season. And that would either, and that
06:47would either lead to listen. So was I, you know, but it seemed to me, this is what I, I I've,
06:55I've looked at that last Detroit game where they, they, they were, he balled out, looked amazing
07:02days off, but he said afterwards, I despise losing maybe in that point he has a realization.
07:07This season's going nowhere. Maybe that's, I don't know what happened in those days.
07:11It was out there for a few minutes against the thunder ankle. Oh, this could ruin everything.
07:17What if I have to be out for a certain amount of time? Nope. I'm sick. Then all of a sudden
07:21the trade noise kicks up over the holidays. I don't know, man. It just seems like all I have
07:27to go by is what Jimmy said and what he's doing. That's all. I don't know. I don't know.
07:34You want to hear some more Chuck? Yeah. Here's Chuck, uh, ripping wash players.
07:39I deserve a better contract. I'm in my going into my last year. I deserve that. If y'all don't want
07:43to give me that y'all can move me. That is, I would, I could look at that and take it for fist
07:48on, but saying that you don't have it. No, he said he didn't have joy. And I remember this,
07:51it's the same guy who slept in the gym before he got his big contract. I remember those. I'm like,
07:58because he don't have to, he just wants to say you want the, you want to extension.
08:01That's the truth. And you know what bothers me about it? So I don't understand
08:06why we as players, we've all been fairly compensated in our career. All of us,
08:13the notion that once you're past your prime, they got to keep paying you top dollar.
08:19I don't think that's right. They have paid him. He's making $50 million a year.
08:23Jimmy's got a hell of a player. He'd make, he'd make, he'd been making $50 million. The notion
08:28that he's on the pay pass their prime. Yeah. They had a contract, but he doesn't have one.
08:37There you go inside the NBA yesterday. But that's, that's like here
08:45at this moment, the only thing that Jimmy Butler could have did was prove Pat Riley wrong.
08:51And instead with his actions, he proved Pat Riley, right? So more people are going to start
08:57siding with Pat Riley saying, no, if this is what we're going to get, I'm not, I wouldn't
09:02pay him for an extra year. And so how do you know other teams aren't thinking this too?
09:08And it seems like the other thing is that's been interesting about this is,
09:13well, it seemed, well, we initially heard, which also doesn't turn out to be true is,
09:17okay. There were other teams that were going to at least roll the dice on say, Hey, what can Jimmy
09:22do for us this year? That's not about that. Don't trade for me. What's it about? Get to Phoenix.
09:30Wouldn't it be something if he got to Phoenix and he go, I'm not extending you.
09:34Oh, I don't think he's stepping on it. That's what I'm saying. I don't think he gets to Phoenix. I
09:38don't think he's stepping on a court until that extension signed. So who's going to do that?
09:43I think Phoenix, I think that's why it's such a sticking point.
09:47So, so when he comes back next Friday, you say he has to start.
09:54Now, let me, let me ask you this question as a huge heat fan,
10:03based on what you've seen the last couple of games, would you want Jimmy starting?
10:09If he's just going to carry that pettiness from not getting a contract for two years from now,
10:17because he's shown you that, like, forget what he taught. We, I, I was all in the depression.
10:22Jimmy going to be an all-star. He going to ball light. He going to play a whole bunch of games
10:25because that's what he made it sound like. Right. And now that he's not, when he comes back,
10:30if you didn't just throw him into the starting rotation, are you doing a disservice to the fans
10:37and the people, the other people on that team? I just don't think you can sit them. I don't know.
10:43What do you do? I think he's got to tell Niko Jovich, you got to promise your boy,
10:50because he's the captain now. But again, you, you talk, you haven't answered the question.
10:58What do you do? I think you got to play him.
11:02Okay. And, and, and if he doesn't, if he doesn't play, I guess it leads to another suspension.
11:14I think he's like, I think that you, you would be at such a stalemate at that point
11:18that you have to play up until the trade deadline, which at that, I guess would be
11:23three weeks away that you have to. And, and, and do that to the other guys on your team
11:29and do that to, to, to obviously I'm saying like, if he plays against the nuggets and dogs it again,
11:36then suspend them again. But I'm saying you got to get leased. You can't just say,
11:41just sit down. Don't play. You're here on the bench, but that's it.
11:44And you can't bring them off the bench. Right? Well, you could lie and do like,
11:50you need to recondition and, and we're going to get them some minutes.
11:54That's it. That's what we could all lie again and say he's sick.
11:56Yeah, no, we just say we want to get him. We don't want him playing a full game yet.
12:00We're going to work him back in if you want rats off the ship. I need 60 odyssey points,
12:11but not now. Two years from now, that's what we should do.
