00:00The government has decided not to scrap toll waivers as a whole
00:04and will give a 50% discount on toll charges in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
00:09Works Minister Alexander Nantalingi said this would cost the government about
00:14RM20.08 million in compensation to the toll concessionaires.
00:19The 50% discount will be effective from 12.01am on January 27
00:24and will end at 11.59pm on January 28.
00:28It will only apply to Class 1 private vehicles
00:31and will not apply to tolls at the country's borders,
00:34namely the Sultan Iskandar building and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas.
00:38On Tuesday, Nanta said the government would no longer give toll exemptions for festive seasons
00:43but would replace these waivers with a more targeted approach to be announced in the future.
00:49Nanta had said Putrajaya would save RM190 million annually
00:54after ending toll exemptions during festive seasons.
00:57He said toll waivers during festive seasons in 2023 and 2024
01:02had cost the government a total of RM356.18 million.
