Ollie Westbury gives his take on Salop's narrow defeat at The Valley.
Gareth Ainsworth's men dug in and defended doggedly in the capital - and looked as though they had secured a point.
But Charlton struck in the sixth minute of added time to deny Salop a point.
Transcript
00:00It ended here at the Valley, Shrewsbury 0 Charlton 1. Late late heartbreak for
00:06Gareth Ainsworth and his Shrewsbury Townside as they are beaten with the
00:10final kick of the game. Thierry Small firing in from just inside the 18-yard
00:15box to punish and break Shrewsbury's hearts right at the very end. It looked
00:20for all the money as if Shrewsbury were going to be taking a point, a hard-earned
00:23point, a hard-fought resilient point back to Shropshire. They even had the chance
00:27right at the very end to get all three, but unfortunately it was not to be for
00:32Gareth Ainsworth. Gareth Ainsworth's men
00:35here in South London. It was a scrappy game but Shrewsbury continued to show
00:40that resilience, that defensive resilience that they have kind of been
00:44accustomed to in the last six weeks or so, ever since they went to Wigan just
00:48before Christmas. Town have been good from a defensive point of view, they've
00:52been well organized, well coached and well drilled and that is exactly what
00:57they were here for. 95 minutes and 50 seconds as they looked, like I've already
01:02mentioned, as if they were going to get a point against Nathan Jones, Charlton side.
01:06There were chances for the hosts, you know, two in the first half. Tyrese
01:11Campbell who looks a fine player causing trouble for Town down the right-hand
01:16side. He could have scored Morgan Feeney clearing off the line to deny them there.
01:20Another opportunity, Small who scored the winner in the first half, he found
01:25himself with space inside the penalty area and he curled over when he probably
01:28should have scored. Chances continued after the break for the hosts,
01:31Leigh-Byrne going close and also an effort from Doherty which was blocked by his
01:35own man inside the six-yard box but unfortunately for Shrewsbury
01:40it stayed out. Town kind of had chances of their own, Jordan Shipley going so
01:44close at the end, John Marquis having a shot. They probably haven't offered as
01:48much threat as Gareth Ainsworth would like them to have, you know, that perhaps
01:52could be a little bit more proactive going forward but I suppose given where
01:57they have been in a case of letting so many goals in, it's still progress. The
02:01last six weeks they have made so much progress. Unfortunately though they
02:05started so far behind, you know, they've got 12 points in the last 11 games so
02:10this result, you know, it's not the end of the world but it feels
02:15like real heartbreak because of the circumstances, because of the way it went
02:19in and because it looked like they had snatched a point. Attention, you know,
02:23kind of move swiftly on as they, you know, prepare for the trip to Stockport on
02:27Tuesday night but this one will be a bitter pill to swallow for all Shrewsbury
02:31fans that have made the journey to the Valley and obviously it was an
02:36incredibly, incredibly disappointing way for the game to end for Shrewsbury who
02:39the players have absolutely gone out on their feet when that ball hit the back
02:43of the net. For all your reaction, head to shopstart.com
