00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're counting down our picks for the 10 questions we still
00:14have about unresolved plot points and other strange things in the Pokemon games.
00:24Before we get started, we post new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to
00:28Mojo Plays and ring that bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33What's Underneath Diglett and Dugtrio?
00:40These Pokemon are essentially the world's equivalent of Whack-a-mole, and much like
00:44the classic arcade game, only their heads are visible.
00:47No matter what surface they're on, Diglett and its evolved form Dugtrio seemingly consist
00:52of just rounded heads poking out of earth.
00:55So that begs the question, what do the rest of their bodies look like?
00:58Do Diglett and Dugtrio have paws or claws like the moles that inspired them?
01:02Maybe they have something weirder, like a snake or worm body.
01:06Whatever the case may be, we'd probably have to give them a whack over their head to get
01:09the chance to look.
01:11How Did a Whalmer End Up There?
01:18While the game series remains pretty consistent and believable when it comes to Pokemon habitats,
01:23sometimes things fall through the cracks.
01:25Editors noticed an unusual inhabitant of the Motorstroke Riverbank area from Pokemon Sword
01:30and Shield.
01:31In an isolated pond, you can find a Whalmer.
01:34The real-world explanation is simple.
01:36Some programmer messed up and put an ocean-water type Pokemon way too far inland.
01:41But in-universe, how did a whale end up living in a pond?
01:44Did someone put it there?
01:46Its ball shape, did it bounce from a river?
01:48And Whalmers sort of hover in battle, so did it fly there?
01:52Fans have certainly had a whale of a time trying to solve this mystery.
02:02Will They Go Back to the Future?
02:08Pokemon Legends Arceus sees the protagonist taken from the Pokemon world's apparent present
02:13day and sent back to Hisui, which will one day be the Sinnoh region.
02:17Gingo, a character from the Black and White games, has also seemingly been brought to
02:21the past.
02:22By the game's ending, once you've caught a lot of Pokemon and challenged Arceus, you
02:26might think the god Pokemon would send you back to your own time.
02:30But nope, you're still stuck.
02:32So does Arceus end up sending you back at some point, or are you and Ingo just going
02:36to live out the rest of your lives in the past?
02:39Is that a sequel or a cool easter egg?
02:41We may never know.
02:48Who's the Ghost Girl?
02:57There's no shortage of creepy moments in Pokemon games, but one of the most intriguing spans
03:01multiple games.
03:03In Pokemon X and Y, if you go to Lumio City, on the second floor of the fighting dojo,
03:08a ghostly hex maniac girl will exit the elevator after you do.
03:12She'll claim that you're not the one before gliding away.
03:15A similar girl can be found on the fourth floor of the department store in the same
03:19city, claiming to be listening for the elevator.
03:22This same girl appears in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire at Mount Pyre, where she'll claim
03:27that the player in that game isn't the one either.
03:30Who she's looking for, what she is, and if it's even the same girl remains unknown.
03:36Which Pokemon are okay to eat?
03:40Sure, some Pokemon are obviously inedible.
03:45Rock and Steel types for sure.
03:47But people do eat Pokemon.
03:49We know this from the games.
03:50You can eat Slowpoke tails, Cloth Sticks, and several Pokedex entries refer to eating
03:55various other Pokemon.
03:56But what's the limit?
03:57Some countries in the real world have taboos about eating certain animals, but not others.
04:02Is it the same with Pokemon regions?
04:04Is there somewhere that deems eating Pikachu acceptable?
04:07We get that there are some implications to the Pokemon world that the developers don't
04:11want to call attention to like this.
04:14But we'd appreciate some clarification on this.
04:16Or maybe a cookbook.
04:23The Cubone Conundrum
04:31Pokedex entries drop some truly weird lore, and one of the most tragic and head-scratching
04:36involves Cubone.
04:37According to many Pokedex notes, Cubone's skull mask is that of its deceased mother.
04:42And given that Cubone is never depicted without a skull mask, the implication is that every
04:47single Cubone has lost at least one parent.
04:50But this also raises a ton of other questions, like what if the Cubone's not an only child?
04:55Where's the other skull come from?
04:57And does Cubone's real face resemble a smaller version of the skull it wears?
05:01It's just really confusing, and dark.
05:04What War Was Lt. Surge In?
05:10Whenever you battle the Vermilion City Gym Leader, Lt. Surge, the man makes mention of
05:14fighting in a war alongside his electric Pokemon.
05:17The ramifications of using Pokemon in war are mind-boggling enough, but there are plenty
05:22of other questions that arise from Surge's offhand remarks.
05:25Is this war why there are so few adults around?
05:28Who was the war against?
05:29And are there some Pokemon forbidden from being involved in war, like a Pokemon World
05:33version of the Jenova Conventions?
05:35This isn't even the only Pokemon war mystery either, as the Kalos region apparently fought
05:40in a war thousands of years ago against an unknown opponent.
05:46Where Are All The Dads?
05:54In nearly every Pokemon game, the player character is a kid being raised by their mother with
05:59their fathers absent from the picture.
06:01Sometimes these unseen dads are mentioned in passing, like your mom got a letter from
06:05him or she'll reminisce about him.
06:07But besides Norman from the Ruby and Sapphire games, male parents are just anathema in Pokemon
06:12games.
06:13Out of universe, an absent parent is a common thing in fiction of all kinds.
06:17But what's the explanation within the stories?
06:19Did they divorce your mom?
06:21Are they just working abroad?
06:22Are some of them dead?
06:23Did they die in one of those aforementioned wars?
06:26It's just weird how few dads there are.
06:29Where Are The Non-Pokemon Animals?
06:34Although people in the Pokemon World clearly eat Pokemon, there are also mentions and sporadic
06:38appearances of real world animals too.
06:41Bird Keeper trainers keep actual birds, Lumiose City restaurants serve fish, expressions in
06:46text mention real animals like bugs, but the question remains, how many of them are there?
06:51And why don't we see more animals?
06:53You know, besides the games needing to put Pokemon front and center obviously.
06:57Could Pokemon have supplanted most other animals due to their greater strength or intelligence?
07:01Now that we think about it, it probably would be hard to compete for food with literal dragons.
07:09How Do Pokeballs Work?
07:18We all know the deal, bite Pokemon, damage them enough, throw a Pokeball, and they're
07:23That's what they do.
07:24But how does that work?
07:25Are the Pokemon shrunk down?
07:27Are they transported to another dimension?
07:29Have they become digitized?
07:30Is it the same principle as how Pokeballs are stored in PCs?
07:33Are the Pokemon conscious and aware inside the Pokeballs?
07:37Can you store other things besides Pokemon inside them?
07:40If so, why would moving trucks exist?
07:42It just feels like the more we think about these things that are so central to the franchise,
07:46the more questions we have.
07:53Is there a Pokemon mystery that has you more confused than missing know?
