We went out onto the streets of Manchester to ask people their views on whether the current system for judging schools is fair, or if an alternative needs to be found.

00:00Hi I'm Theo and this is People on the Street. Today I'm out in Manchester asking people
00:03about school league tables. Now similarly to Ofsted there's been questions over whether
00:08league tables help or hinder schools from being able to develop themselves and the kids
00:13that they educate. So we want to know whether people think it's a good idea or whether they'd
00:16like to see some sort of change in the system.
00:19So I think Ofsted should be disbanded, done away with and teachers left to teach in schools.
00:26I mean yeah just let the teachers do their thing, let them learn and do their training.
00:29I mean the best I could say is maybe just have, instead of it being a big graded thing,
00:33just have people come in, watch and then just leave it at that. You don't need to make a
00:36grade, just have them watch so that they know it's all done alright and then if anything's
00:40particularly bad they can say you've got to stop it.
00:42My wife is a retired primary school teacher and hated SATs, hated Ofsted. She just loved
00:49children, she loved learning and teaching children. I've been a school governor for
00:5313 years. I don't think Ofsted are worth anything like the salaries they get.
