00:00I'm Theo with Manchester World and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people
00:03about Members of Parliament and their salaries. The reason for that is here in
00:07England MPs are about to earn a pay rise of around two and a half thousand pounds a
00:11year taking up to around £95,000 over the course of 12 months. We want to know if
00:16people think that this is too much or whether to tempt the brightest and best into
00:20representing people in Parliament you need to pay them for the rights the best deserve.
00:24I think they're supposed to just be doing their job but it's that they need to be paid a huge amount.
00:29It's difficult because it's a difficult job first of all, there's a lot of
00:32responsibilities, a lot of things to manage and a lot of ability I think
00:36you've needed to deal with the actual issues so I think it does need to be an
00:40attractive salary or job for people to actually want to go and do it right.
00:44For me I don't have a problem with them getting an increase in wage because there's a
00:47small number of them it's not a real figure it's like saying oh a footballer
00:52shouldn't be paid £100,000 a week. I think towards you know six
00:56figures is maybe a bit much considering where the national average is.
