At the start of Friday morning most of England and Wales will be overcast, with showers in the southeast of England, while in Scotland and Northern Ireland it will generally be a sunny start to the day. In the afternoon the showers advance further west while the cloud extends its reach to the north and west, covering parts of eastern Scotland and Northern Ireland, but in western Scotland many places will hold on to the sunshine in the afternoon. The presence of an easterly breeze will mean that it feels particularly cold in the east of the UK. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 07/02/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Tom Morgan.

00:00Hi there. After yesterday's glorious sunshine, there is a change on the way through the next
00:04few days. It's turning cloudier and it's also going to turn much colder for many of us.
00:09That cold easterly breeze developing today bringing a lot of cloud across many parts
00:12of England and Wales. There's already some showers across the south east of England and
00:16those will spread their way westwards through the course of today. Falling is a mixture
00:19of rain sleet and perhaps snow in places, particularly over the higher ground. Across
00:23the north and the west though, particularly northern and western parts of Scotland, here
00:27it will be another glorious day with lots and lots of sunshine, but there will be a
00:31bit more on the way of cloud compared to Thursday across parts of Northern Ireland, for example.
00:36Here in the sunshine, it won't feel too bad for the time of year. Highs of six or seven
00:39degrees and quite light winds. But elsewhere, a much keener easterly breeze. So temperatures
00:45of five or six on the thermometer, but when you factor in that strong easterly breeze,
00:49it's going to feel more like minus one or minus two across many parts of England and
00:53Wales and especially cold on that east coast. So as we go into tonight, there are not a
00:58lot of changes really initially. A lot of cloud around across many parts of England
01:02and Wales and eastern Scotland for much of the night. An ongoing chance of some wintry
01:07showers or longer spells of rain sleet and snow across some central and southern areas
01:10of the UK. So a few centimetres of snow is possible by the time we get to Saturday morning
01:16across the higher ground, particularly parts of Wales. So if you do have travel plans first
01:20thing on Saturday morning, stay in touch with the forecast. Further north and west
01:24though, it should stay mostly dry across western Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland as
01:28well. Here, the best of the clear skies and another widespread frost to come tonight.
01:32So temperatures minus five or minus six, perhaps in some rural areas. But you will notice it's
01:37not quite as cold across many parts of England and Wales. Temperatures mostly one or two
01:42degrees above freezing. And it is temporarily, at least through this weekend, going to turn
01:46a little bit less cold. An area of low pressure moving in from the south as we go into
01:50Saturday, bringing those cloudier and slightly less cold conditions. But high pressure always
01:55very close by across north and eastern parts of the UK, and that will allow that easterly
02:00breeze to bring back colder conditions as we go towards Monday. This weather front perhaps
02:05brings some more frequent wintry showers for some of us. But back to Saturday then, and
02:10it's a very cloudy start to the day for many parts of England and Wales. Still, the chance
02:14of some showery outbreaks of rain sleet and maybe hill snow too, but at lower levels at
02:19least, generally falling as rain by this point. Staying quite cloudy and dull for much
02:24of the day here and not quite as cold as it will be today because we would have lost that
02:28really strong easterly breeze, but still cold nonetheless. Further north and west, though,
02:33a bit less breezy. And once again, it will be northwestern parts of Scotland that sees
02:37the best of the sunshine. But again, fairly chilly. Temperatures a little bit below average
02:41for the time of year even here. Make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel if you'd
02:46like to find out more information about what the weather's going to be doing this weekend
02:50and also next week. But that's everything from me. I'll see you again very soon.
