Met Office Weather Forecast 13/10/2024 - Cloudy with some sunshine in the east

Sunday afternoon is dry but chilly for most of the UK due to the high pressure system that is situated over the country, but it is cloudier further west, with some rain in Northern Ireland, as a weather front approached from the west. In the evening it will turn increasingly cloudy across the UK with some heavy rain in Wales and Southwest England as the weather front continues to move eastwards.

00:00Good afternoon and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Quite
00:04an autumnal feel to the weather, fairly chilly, but largely dry for much of the UK. That's
00:09thanks to this area of high pressure acting to suppress most of the weather conditions
00:13through today. But as we head through the next couple of days, we start to get winds
00:17coming up from the south, various frontal systems coming across and we start to see
00:20those temperatures start to pick up, particularly as we head towards the middle part of the
00:24week.
00:25But back to today. So we have this frontal system out towards the west. So parts of Northern
00:29Ireland seeing fairly cloudy day with some outbreaks of rain, but actually through the
00:33afternoon, quite a lot of the UK fairly fine and dry conditions. Not too bad for an autumn
00:39afternoon. We do still see, though, a fair bit of cloud moving in ahead of this frontal
00:43system. So it's not going to be wall to wall sunshine. Best of any hazy sunshine will probably
00:47be down at the east coast of the UK. And here where we've had quite a strong northwesterly
00:53wind for the last couple of days, we will see that begin to ease through the afternoon.
00:56So actually quite a pleasant afternoon down the eastern half of the UK. But it will be
01:00fairly chilly. At best, we're looking at temperatures seven to nine across the northern half of
01:04the UK, a touch milder further south, but still only just scraping into the double figures.
01:10Warmest will probably be across the far southwest of Devon and Cornwall, where we're starting
01:13to see those southerly winds push in already.
01:17Then through the rest of the afternoon. So we're going to start to see that cloud thicken
01:21from the west, a little bit patchier further north, but quite heavy across Devon and Cornwall
01:25and parts of Wales through this evening. The wind as well, it's going to be picking
01:28up and it's going to be fairly blustery overnight as that system heads further east. Underneath
01:35that cloud and with that wind as well, temperatures will be a touch milder, so quite a different
01:38start to the day than those sort of fresh mornings we've been used to for the last couple
01:42of days. Cloudy and perhaps starting the day around 13 degrees across the far southwest.
01:48Further north, though, it will be a touch milder, but still into the single figures
01:52and some rural spots could again still see some ground frost as well to start on Monday
01:56morning. So back to start the day. We do still have this area of rain. It's going to be lingering
02:02around through this morning. It's quite a wet and damp start to the day, perhaps giving
02:05some quite difficult driving conditions through the morning rush hour. But then it will begin
02:10to clear away. But we will hold on to quite a cloudy picture across the southern half
02:14of the UK, perhaps with some drizzly sections over high ground and perhaps near some coast.
02:19Temperatures will be up a little bit from what we saw today on Sunday and into the mid-teens.
02:24But underneath that cloud, again, it's still going to be feeling fairly cool. Further north,
02:29though, parts of Northern Ireland, the far north of England and parts of southeastern
02:33Scotland will be seeing some fairly decent sunnier spells and temperatures there again
02:38will be up a little bit than we saw on Sunday into the double figures and starting to feel
02:42a little bit more pleasant. Heading through the rest of Monday afternoon, then still holding
02:48on to some fairly dry conditions across the far north of the UK. But we will start hold
02:53on fairly steadfast to that cloud and it will be quite a mild start towards the overnight
02:58in towards the start of Tuesday. So that's all for me. But if you'd like to check out
