00:00A car bomb struck a stronghold of the Shiite Hezbollah group in eastern Lebanon early today,
00:16causing a number of casualties. A Lebanese official and the group's al-Manatee confirmed
00:21the blast, but there was no immediate word on the nature of the explosion or the target.
00:26Russia and Western nations clashed over who is to blame for chemical weapons attacks in
00:30Syria at a UN Security Council meeting late yesterday. Russia renewed allegations that
00:36the Syrian opposition staged attacks near Damascus in August and in other cities. The
00:41United States, Britain and France maintain that President Bashar al-Assad's forces carried
00:47out the attacks.
00:48Japan announced it will buy stealth fighters, drones and submarines as part of a splurge
00:53on military hardware that will beef up defence of far-flung islands amid a simmering territorial
00:58war with China. The cabinet of hawkish Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to spend $240 billion
01:04between 2014 and 2019.
01:07Australia regained the ashes just four months after the last serious defeat in England by
01:12completing a third comprehensive test victory on home soil today. Resuming at 251 for five
01:18on the last day of the third test, England lost only one wicket in the morning session,
01:22but Nathan Lyon's dismissal of Ben Stokes for 120 soon after lunch triggered the tail-end
01:27collapse.
01:28Vitaly Klitschko is leaving boxing to concentrate on Ukrainian politics and his role as an opposition
01:34leader. Klitschko vacated his WBC World Heavyweight title and said he doesn't expect to fight
01:39again as he pursues a presidential bid in his home country.
01:43Beyonce's new album was just released last week, but it's the second best-selling album
01:47on iTunes this year. Apple announced that the diva's self-titled album is only behind
