00:00Lorena Buñuel bested 199 other nominees to be adjudged the UAE's Best Nanny in a first-of-its-kind
00:11competition for domestic workers.
00:13The 29-year-old Filipina nanny received a Php 5,000 cash prize during the prize-giving
00:19ceremony last Saturday.
00:21I'm very grateful and thankful to my employer and to RISE who appreciates us as a nanny,
00:32who appreciates our hard work.
00:33Organized by RISE, a Dubai start-up that seeks to help domestic workers, the competition
00:38selected the top 10 candidates from among 200 nominees.
00:42They were interviewed, along with their employers, by a three-member judging panel.
00:47The judges were two veteran British nannies and a UAE-based dietician.
00:51The contenders were nominated by their sponsor families, and over the past month, some 108,000
00:57people had voted for the nannies on the organizers' Facebook page.
01:01Nannies were judged for their ability to provide a caring, safe environment, teach children
01:05healthy eating, and how they supported their learning.
01:08The two runners-up, also Filipinas, received cash prizes of Php 2,500 and Php 1,250,000,
01:15respectively.
01:16I'm Trish Eden-Meleza for Gulf News.
01:18The love, the support, and the trust that they give to me is enough that I have it.
01:26Thank you so much.
