00:00Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama accepted without resistance the imposition of the United
00:15States to become a safe third country to receive migrants deported from the north.
00:23The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has not only shown his readiness to hand over
00:26territory to Russia but has also stated that he will also hand over mineral-rich lands
00:31to the United States.
00:36And Palestinian resistance accuses US President Donald Trump of promoting ethnic cleansing
00:42in the Gaza Strip and warns him that he will face a Palestinian-Arab and Islamic response.
00:53Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Dersu Studios in Havana,
00:57Cuba.
00:58We begin with the news.
00:59Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama accepted without resistance the imposition of the United States
01:05to become a safe third country to receive migrants deported from the north.
01:09The tour of US Secretary Marco Rubio forced the administration of the Central American
01:13Nations to turn hundreds of migrants into their bargaining chips.
01:17Panama and Costa Rica are currently trying to transfer migrants who want to return to
01:21their country of origin.
01:22However, they have not even defined how the operation can be carried out, even though
01:27countries like Venezuela have a solid repatriation operation with more than 70 years of experience.
01:33In the meantime, hundreds of people suffered degrading treatment.
01:42The US news agency AP reported that one of its journalists was prevented from entering
01:47the White House for continuing to use the name Gulf of Mexico.
01:51Uly Pace, the executive editor of AP, detailed a statement issued by the executive office
01:57of the president in which they were told that if they do not align their editorial standards
02:03with the executive order of President Trump renaming the Gulf, the agency would be denied
02:08access to the Gulf office.
02:10The Associated Press finds it alarming that they are being punished for this decision
02:14calling it a violation of the First Amendment.
02:16Civil rights organizations point out that denying access to the press for disagreeing
02:20with news coverage is a practice of repressive governments.
02:29And in Mexico, the government continues to care for migrants after the cancellation of
02:32the CBP-1 program which regulated entry into the United States.
02:37From a shelter in the capital, we have the following material.
02:42Catherine arrived in Mexico with her three children.
02:45Two of them are already attending school in the capital city while she works in the kitchen
02:49of this care home that shelters 160 migrants.
02:55My case is like that.
02:56We went from town to town, from bus to bus.
02:59Thank God we arrived here in Mexico City and due to the restrictions of the neighboring
03:03country, the United States, we stayed here.
03:06Because I think that here in Mexico they can also give me good opportunities for me and
03:10my children.
03:16Photographs of some of the other families that have passed through the shelter are now
03:19part of this mural that reflects the gratitude and affection that accompanied them on their
03:24journey.
03:25These photos are of people who made it to the United States to do their immigration
03:30regulation there.
03:31Some of them are from when they were here, when they were saying goodbye.
03:34And we also have other photos of when they arrived in the United States.
03:38And they contacted the team to send us photos to thank us for the attention we provide here.
03:46Both adults and children receive, among other support, psychological care to heal the effects
03:52that may have been left by the long journeys and dangers during their journey.
03:58There are children who experience the process as a journey, in which they tell you how they
04:01were in the jungle and got to know everything with emotion, but there are other children
04:05who had to see complicated situations and who see things with fear.
04:08There are also cultural promoters here with whom I also work.
04:16In addition to encouraging them to draw, paint and play in the art laboratory, they are encouraged
04:20to participate in productive projects, like this one in which plastic bottles, also known
04:25as pet bottles, are recycled, while they are taught about coexistence and family unity
04:30through the germination of seeds.
04:35Because for all the events that are happening, the users are totally disunited.
04:40What we are doing is that, with this small element of union, we are promoting care and
04:45inclusion.
04:50These care homes will be expanded to house a total of 2,000 people, in addition to the
04:551,000 people receiving care from citizen organizations.
04:59Unfortunately, the cuts in international funding announced by President Donald Trump are impacting
05:04these shelters and that is why Mexico City is assuming the responsibility that corresponds
05:09to it.
05:14Through multidisciplinary and above all, focused efforts this House of Attention to Human Mobility
05:19is especially dedicated to the issue of families.
05:22We have even had the opportunity to see how there are little ones with motor disabilities
05:25that are cared for.
05:26And there is also another similar house that is dedicated to the care of couples.
05:37In Ecuador, the Citizens' Revolution becomes the first legislative force won seat ahead
05:42of the ruling party.
05:44With more than 99 percent of the votes counted, the candidates Lisa González and Elena Rombo
05:50are in a technical tie for the second round, with the difference narrowed to 0.2 percent.
05:55In third place is the candidate of the Pachacuti movement, Leonidas Issa, with around 5 percent,
06:01whose electoral support is considered crucial in deciding the April ballot.
06:05In the midst of this scenario, the Citizens' Revolution movement won 67 Assembly members,
06:10achieving a simple majority in Parliament over the 66 seats won by the Nuno Boas political
06:15formation.
06:22And also in Ecuador, the International Observer Missions denied that there are any indications
06:26of fraud during the elections held last Sunday, February 9.
06:30On Tuesday, Nuno Boas denounced irregularities in the vote count and claimed to have evidence
06:34of possible fraud that prevented him from winning with a higher number of votes.
06:39In Rizogar, members of the Electoral Observer Missions of the European Union and the Organization
06:43of American States denied that there was any indication of fraud during the recent
06:47elections.
06:48Both missions emphasized that the elections took place in a transparent, peaceful manner,
06:52with no major developments.
06:58And the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs calls on the Ecuadorian government to guarantee
07:02the life and protection of former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glass.
07:07The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken note of the decision of the Inter-American
07:11Commission on Human Rights to extend the precautionary measures in favor of Glass.
07:15On the basis of international law, Mexico granted asylum to the former Vice President,
07:20who was illegally and violently expelled from the diplomatic headquarters on April 5, 2024,
07:27by order of the President of Ecuador, Daniel Nuno Boas.
07:29The regional body has asked to protect their health and improve the conditions of detention
07:34of Glass.
07:37We now have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok at Teles
07:44of English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
07:47We'll be right back, stay with us.
08:08Welcome back.
08:10On February 6, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounced before the world an outrage
08:15against its sovereignty, the theft of a state-owned aircraft carried out by order of the U.S.
08:19Secretary of State, with the complicity of the government of the Dominican Republic.
08:23A correspondent in that country tells us more.
08:30This is the second Venezuelan aircraft that the Dominican government has retained in its
08:34territory and delivered to the United States.
08:37The delivery took place at the airport of La Isabela, Santo Domingo, in the presence
08:42of the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, an act that, according to analysts, demonstrates
08:48the servility of the Luis Abinader administration towards the interests of Washington.
08:56In the case of the two airplanes, we were talking about a double theft.
08:59The fact that it was handed over to someone else does not exempt guilt.
09:08In this case, it aggravates it, because it was handed over to the imperial power of the
09:12United States of America, and that implies a crime steeped in servility, very typical
09:16of a president with the vocation of a colony governor.
09:27Analysts state that the delivery of the aircraft to the United States not only violates international
09:32law, but also exposes the submissive position of the Dominican government in the face of
09:37Washington's pressures.
09:43The media show that Marco Rubio made is even more humiliating, because he exhibited the
09:47president of this country, acting as a colony governor.
09:55Handing over the airplane to the United States of America is a form of humiliation, to accept
10:00that is very typical of colonial governors.
10:10The context of this act is part of the strategy of permanent aggression against Venezuela,
10:15which has intensified after the recent elections in the South American country.
10:19Various countries and media outlets have tried to legitimize these actions with a fierce
10:24disinformation campaign.
10:29After the elections held in Venezuela, where there was a media campaign by the United States
10:33and its allies, and the Dominican Republic is not exempt from that, we know that the
10:37Dominican government has handled its foreign policy in a way that is very bad.
10:51From my point of view, I see it that way because it has not been a government that
10:54instead of looking for solutions, what it is doing is aggravating the problem.
10:57I always give as an example the doctrine that Mexico has in its foreign policy of not interfering
11:02in the internal affairs of other nations, and yet it is looking for solutions and dialogue
11:07to solve the same.
11:12Recently, during his weekly press conference, the Dominican president was asked about the
11:20seizure of the second Venezuelan airplane, but he limited himself to blaming a U.S. court
11:24without further details.
11:27A plane was confiscated from Venezuela.
11:32We know the U.S. justification for the confiscation, but we want to know what was the protocol
11:36that the country used to confiscate the aircraft from the U.S.
11:46They filed a lawsuit in court, and there was a judge's order.
11:50That was the legal procedure that was followed.
11:56The secrecy and lack of transparency regarding the confiscation of Venezuelan state-owned
12:01airplanes in the Dominican Republic has not only been applied in this case.
12:05The same happened with the first airplane, where the Dominican foreign minister assured
12:08that neither the public prosecutor's office nor the Dominican government participated
12:13in the investigation.
12:16Today, September 2, a new court order was received authorizing the delivery of the aircraft
12:23to the requesting state, in this case the United States, and therefore the public prosecutor's
12:32office delivered the aircraft and the U.S. government transferred it to its country.
12:36Neither the Dominican government nor the public prosecutor's office have participated in
12:40the investigation process of the United States.
12:48Only this international legal cooperation was required and since the indicated norms
12:52were complied with and judicial orders were obtained, the public prosecutor's office
12:55complied with what was ordered by the courts.
13:06For analysts, what is presented today as a simple confiscation is, in reality, a new
13:11episode of the economic and political war against Venezuela.
13:15Meanwhile, the Bolivarian government reiterates its rejection of these actions and calls on
13:19the international community to condemn this new violation of its sovereignty.
13:29And Leslie Voltaire, president of the Haitian Interim Council, announced that she would
13:34bring to justice all those responsible for destabilizing the country.
13:38The acting president has asked Prime Minister Alex Didier Fils to gather the information
13:43and evidence available against the persons sanctioned by the United States, Canada and
13:47the United Nations, all allegedly linked to various crimes that have contributed to undermining
13:52the peace of the nation.
13:53Voltaire assured that they will act decisively to bring to justice all those who have promoted
13:59actions against the stability of Haiti.
14:04And the Federation of Cuban Women has expanded the legal, judicial and social framework for
14:11the protection of girls, adolescents and women on the island through the support for the
14:16National Response to Gender-Based Violence project.
14:18In its brief sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund and the Canadian Embassy,
14:23it responds to the national priority of ensuring a comprehensive and integrated response for
14:28the prevention and effective response to gender-based violence.
14:31President Maida Hernández, member of the Federation's Secretariat, points out that
14:34in Cuba no woman is helpless, but this project will guarantee attention to more than 30,000
14:40women in Cuba's 40 municipalities, at the same time ensuring more effective prevention
14:45and response to this type of violence.
15:02In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Cuban Institute of Music confirmed the death
15:07of national singer-songwriter Eduardo Sosa.
15:10On February 3rd, Sosa suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and, after several days of illness,
15:15he passed away on Wednesday, February 12th, at the age of 52.
15:19The news was confirmed by the Cuban Institute of Music while underlining that the Cuban
15:22singer died after several days in a critical state due to the stroke.
15:27Sosa, known for his ability to fuse the Choba tradition with contemporary elements, dedicated
15:31his life to the promotion of Cuban art and to the defense of its legacy.
15:35Cuban music has lost a great exponent, but its memory will be celebrated in every chord
15:40and in every note that resounds on the island and beyond.

16:23Welcome back.
16:24Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a desperate proposal to swap with Russia the
16:29already Russian territories.
16:31President Zelensky is willing to swap some territories of the Kursk's Russian province
16:35for others, which he wanted his troops to control them.
16:39In response, the Russian government assured Zelensky is trying to hide the Ukrainian Armed
16:42Forces' failure in Kursk, including 30,000 Ukrainian fatal casualties.
16:46Moreover, the Kremlin demanded Ukraine must withdraw all its remaining troops from Russia
16:51The conflict had broken out due to Ukraine did not acknowledge either the 2014 referendum
16:59or 2022 popular consultation in which citizens of Crimea, Sevastopol, the popular republics
17:04of Donetsk and Lugansk, separation and Kyrgyzstan provinces have expressed their will to be
17:09Russian citizens.
17:20And the Palestinian resistance accuses US President Donald Trump of promoting ethnic
17:37cleansing in the Gaza Strip and warns him that he will face a Palestinian, Arab and
17:41Islamic response.
17:42In his way, Hamas responds to the White House's plan, which they describe as racist, and point
17:47out that its only objective is to eliminate the Palestinian cause.
17:52President Trump has said that the people of Gaza will go to a third country and will return
17:58to a reconstructed Gaza administered by Washington.
18:01Hamas assures that these plans will clash with a solidly unified Palestinian, Arab and
18:06Islamic resistance.
18:08They also reaffirmed their commitment to the ceasefire and recall that it is Israel that
18:12has violated the agreement.
18:19The Director General of the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza reported that at least 92
18:24people have been killed in the Strip since the ceasefire was signed.
18:28In the last few days, the Israeli regime intensified its attacks, killing dozens of people and
18:33wounding at least 822.
18:36In this regard, some of the people were killed when they approached the buffer zone of the
18:40Israeli troops, where they were shot at, and others from wounds inflicted during the
18:43genocide that lasted 15 months.
18:46It should be noted that a ceasefire was signed between Israel and Hamas on January 19, in
18:50which it was agreed that the hostages held by the Palestinian resistance movement would
18:55be released in exchange for Palestinians held hostage in Israeli prisons, and it was also
18:59agreed that Israel would withdraw from the Palestinian territory.
19:07In other news, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Bukavu, medical personnel
19:11prepare for the influx of injured due to fighting between the armed group M23 and the National
19:16Armed Forces.
19:17East of the country, Bukavu is the capital of the province of South Kibu, where a hospital
19:22has reported that it is asking for blood donors.
19:25As part of its preparedness for medical assistance as fighting between fighters of the M23 movement
19:30and the Congolese army begun, ending a brief truce in the conflict, the director of the
19:35Bukavu Provincial Hospital said that the blood donation is requested by the Congolese
19:39Medical Center in order to be able to treat patients from both North and South Kibu.
19:49And in Mali, the army reported Tuesday that they successfully intercepted a terrorist
19:53drone in Tisalit airport area near the border with Algeria.
19:57The general staff of the armed forces carried out the operation at 9.40 am local time, while
20:03monitoring a military helicopter that was at the heliport.
20:06The drone will be subjected to in-depth research to better understand its operating system
20:11and thus find out its true origin.
20:14By the capture of the drone, Malian troops neutralized several terrorists and captured
20:20a miner with a radio transmitter near the border with Mauritania.
20:29And in France, the third edition of the Summit for Action on Artificial Intelligence ended
20:33on Tuesday in Paris.
20:34The final declaration expresses the need for artificial intelligence with a humane approach.
20:39The United States and the United Kingdom did not sign it.
20:42Over a hundred countries took part in the summit.
20:44The gathering aimed to translate the debate on artificial intelligence into concrete actions.
20:50Almost a thousand experts and world leaders attended this meeting to discuss scenarios
20:54to ensure that artificial intelligence does not surpass human intelligence and potentially
20:58establish a form of domination.
21:00However, the United States, represented by its Vice President James D. Vance, has exposed
21:06artificial intelligence as a tool for domination and rejects excessive regulation.
