00:00Good evening and welcome back to the next edition of Bollywood Gossip and Movies with
00:05our chief entertainment reporter Manjusha.
00:08Hello.
00:09Today, she's going to give us the lowdown on Karan Johar.
00:15That's right.
00:16Let's start off with Karan Johar.
00:17In fact, last week or a few weeks ago, there was this whole conjecture, his favorite word,
00:22by the way, about his party, his party at home being drug fueled.
00:27And he's hit back in a TV show and said that there were no drugs in his party and that
00:33everybody was very sober.
00:34They were just having fun.
00:35They were just a bunch of celebrities, big stars who came together just to have some
00:40fun.
00:41And he feels really bad that people are even insinuating that they would indulge in, you
00:46know, in a drug fuel party.
00:48So what we have, according to him, at least his version, is that these are people who
00:54work very hard.
00:55Perhaps they did drink a bit, but there were no drugs in the house.
00:58And the best part is he even said that his mom was there a few minutes before, before
01:03he taped it.
01:04Funnily enough, it was Karan Johar who taped the whole incident and put it on.
01:08It's almost like he shot himself in the foot.
01:10And now he's scared.
01:11I think that backfired a bit.
01:13That is true.
01:14We've also done this story.
01:15You can actually see the original story on gulfnews.com and then the follow up.
01:20That's right.
01:21But isn't there something interesting that this whole rumor has also come about because
01:26there is an assumption that Bollywood does have this rather drug fueled kind of lifestyle?
01:32Just think about it.
01:33I've spoken to many people.
01:34We can't name them, of course, for obvious reasons, but they say the demand of the profession
01:39is so much.
01:40I mean, you are looking at people globetrotting, working like 19 hours shift.
01:45So in order to keep up, there are many stars who often, you know, take the support of,
01:49like say drugs or even something as harsh as cocaine, for instance, just to keep going.
01:55Does it show on their faces?
01:56Perhaps not.
01:57But it's all very well.
01:58It's one of Bollywood's worst kept secrets where, you know, people, you know, indulge
02:04in drugs, but they don't talk about it openly.
02:06And it's something that they're very clannish about and they're very not open about talking
02:11about it.
02:12But think about it.
02:13How do they keep up with like, say, like going around continents, promoting films, then working
02:18in another film?
02:20It's not humanly possible.
02:21And many stars go without sleep.
02:23So you wonder, where do they get all the energy from?
02:25Do they take some external support?
02:27But we'll never know.
02:28Like you said, unless we have a star who will come out and openly talk about the dark side
02:33of fame, we'll never know.
02:35Yes.
02:36And I think it would be good, actually, if they did that and they cleaned up their act.
02:40Ideally, yes.
02:41I mean, you know, it's like in Hollywood, we have celebrities who talk openly about
02:46their addictions.
02:47But in Bollywood, we're yet to see that kind of open conversation.
02:55Moving on to the next one, speaking about stars with clay feet and being targeted for
03:00that, you had two people specifically Sonam Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut for two different
03:05cases.
03:06Very two.
03:07Yeah.
03:08Yeah.
03:09It's like diametrically different cases.
03:10Of course, one was for a fashion crime.
03:11The other is one for speaking too much about Pakistan and India issue.
03:17So we had Sonam Kapoor, who was blasted for her comments saying that she's half Sindhi
03:21and half Pakistani in an interview with BBC, where she was asked about her take on the
03:26Kashmir issue.
03:28And what we had is people trolling her for saying, how dare she even take a stand?
03:33Is she out?
03:34You know, is she jobless?
03:36And the best part is Sonam Kapoor is always outspoken on Twitter.
03:40She asked those people to get a job and to calm down and to have a life.
03:44And I'm with her.
03:45I'm like, she just spoke about what she had in her mind.
03:48And the thing is, you can take it with a pinch of salt, but then attacking her and calling
03:52her a jobless actress and comparing her to Rakhi Sawant, which some trolls did, saying
03:57that don't you have a brain, etc., is just getting personal.
04:01And she hit back at them.
04:02So it was very interesting to see the entire fight being chronicled.
04:06We of course have, we have it on Gulfnews.com, where we have given you a lowdown on what
04:11went down.
04:12But Sonam Kapoor is not going to take it lying down.
04:15And Kangana Ranaut, today's story actually.
04:19That's right.
04:20In fact, Anupa just pointed out that story to me.
04:22It's a very bizarre story.
04:23She's wearing a cotton saree.
04:25Now, wearing a saree is usually lauded since we are preserving Indian culture.
04:29And of course, it's a very comfortable piece of garment.
04:32But Kangana Ranaut was under fire for wearing a 600 rupee saree, which her sister, Rangoli,
04:39she's often very outspoken on Twitter.
04:41She came out and said, my sister is promoting and, you know, the artisans, the local artisans
04:47of Calcutta.
04:48And here is a look at the saree she's wearing.
04:50Unfortunately, Kangana on her part, apart from a rupee 600 saree, she was carrying a
04:55very expensive designer bag that runs into more than 15,000 dirhams.
05:01So what you have is like a case of like, is that hypocrisy?
05:05Why is she wearing a 600 rupee saree, which is like 30 dirhams perhaps, and carrying such
05:10an expensive bag?
05:11But I think people seem to have lost the point.
05:14The whole conversation is about promoting sarees and local artisans.
05:20It's not about her not, it's not about the price tag of what she's wearing.
05:24I think the cause was somewhere lost.
05:26Yes.
05:27And I think it's actually a good thing if our celebrities that people actually follow,
05:34promote local art and especially the artisans of our country and keeping in mind that India
05:39gave the world textile tradition to a great extent.
05:43So I think we should be respecting that.
05:45So for once, I think Rangoli was on track.
05:52Yeah.
05:53Yeah.
05:54Which brings us to the next big story that Manju and Mazhar did.
05:57That's right.
05:58Which was Sacred Games.
06:00That's right.
06:01Sacred Games did a massive blunder last week when it published a local number, a UAE based
06:08number.
06:10Mazhar and I went around sniffing around a bit and we cracked the mystery of who did
06:14the number belong to?
06:15And we found out that it belonged to a Sharjah resident.
06:19And poor man had never heard about what Sacred Games is.
06:23In fact, he asked me, is it a video game in Malayalam?
06:26Bless his soul.
06:27I mean, you know, it is so sad.
06:28He was inundated with calls.
06:29More than 50 calls came to his number.
06:32And he was wondering whether he would be arrested and people were asking him to do some very
06:36unsavory things.
06:38And he's like, who is Isa?
06:39And we had to explain to him that Isa is the gangster, fictional gangster in Sacred Games.
06:44And Netflix, after we pointed that error out to them, they have apologized and removed
06:50that number from the subtitling.
06:51It was a subtitling error.
06:54And Nawazuddin Siddiqui, you know, who was given a sheet of paper, he realized that,
07:00you know, it is not a Sharjah based residence number and they've corrected the issue.
07:04But it's funny how these things snowball into big events.
07:08Least expected.
07:09That's right.
07:10But I have to say this man has become, you know, a household celebrity of late.
07:17He's been called by all the radio stations.
07:19The story has been picked up by the Indian newspaper.
07:22So it's quite interesting.
07:23He's become an overnight celebrity.
07:25So you can definitely read that story again on gulfnews.com.
07:29It's there.
07:30It's in detail and it's very well done and a must read, especially if you're a Sacred
07:34Games fan.
07:35That's true.
07:36Which brings us to the movie release of the week.
07:40Right.
07:41This time, there's no Bollywood release.
07:42I know it's sad, but next week we have a big release called Saaho.
07:46So I guess it's just giving us some breathing space.
07:49But for the fans of South Indian cinema, especially Malayalam, there's a movie called Puranju
07:53Mariam Jos and it stars our Malayalam, Dubai based Malayalam RJ Naila Usha.
08:00And it's also a director Joshi's movie.
08:03So he's he had a self-imposed four year sabbatical.
08:06He's back with this 1960s drama and it has Naila Usha playing a Christian woman in Chattemundu,
08:13which is like a traditional attire.
08:15And we have them.
08:16It's a tale of revenge, love between three friends who grew up together in Thrissur in
08:20Kerala.
08:21So it's going to be very interesting to see what the Dubai based girl has in store for
08:25us.
08:26I'll be reviewing it.
08:32And we have a guest.
08:33That's right.
08:34That's right.
08:35You know, Dubai is going to be a lot more sunnier with Sunny Leone.
08:40Sorry, I couldn't just help it.
08:42But a little birdie tells us she might pay us a visit as well.
08:46It's not confirmed.
08:47You can't hold us to it.
08:48But we are trying to get her as close to you all as we can.
08:52And so do watch this space tomorrow.
08:55And she's in the city.
08:56She's already in Dubai.
08:57She's having fun at a hotel.
08:59Go to her Instagram account.
09:00She's already posted some pictures of her having fun in Dubai.
09:04A vacation, she calls it, a working vacation.
09:07So we will keep you posted.
09:09So continue watching our social media channels and definitely log on to gulfnews.com to get
09:14more information and read more stories by Manju.
09:18So until the next edition, goodbye, goodbye, take care.
