00:00Meanwhile, on the declaration of the Quezon City dengue outbreak, we have Dr. Rolando Cruz, the chief epidemiologist of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division.
00:11Dr. Cruz, good morning.
00:13Good morning sir and to our listeners and viewers.
00:18Yes. Over the weekend, will there be additional cases? How many cases of dengue are there in the city?
00:24We will release the new cases that we have collected later this afternoon. We are just consolidating them now.
00:33Our health centers opened on Saturday and Sunday. We have additional cases that were diagnosed and went to our health center for dengue.
00:44But when there was a press conference last Friday, if I'm not mistaken, there were more than 1,000 cases from January 1 to Feb 14.
00:52Yes. From January 1 to Feb 14, when we announced, we have 1,769 cases and we have reported 10 cases of fatalities.
01:08What is the effect of the number of dengue cases in the facility of Quezon City for those who have dengue?
01:16Are we having strain in our bed capacity in the hospitals?
01:22The majority do not need to be confined to the hospital.
01:28Our problem is that the doctors are not able to assess them immediately.
01:34That's the story of our 10 cases of fatalities. It took them more than seven days, more than five days before they can be consulted by a doctor.
01:52That's why we announced an outbreak to inform our mothers and parents that there's a threat of dengue in our community.
02:04More on that point, doctor. Now, the disease of dengue is a hot topic. Many people are getting infected and they are being tracked.
02:11Is there a distinguishing symptom of dengue so that parents can be warned that their children might be infected with dengue?
02:22That's right. Sometimes, in the places where we visited, the parents thought it was just a simple fever and they were given a first-aid lunch, a paracetamol.
02:37That's why our advice now is that as soon as the child is infected for one or two days, bring them to our nearest health center.
02:48Because in our health center, we have a free test for dengue and it is available.
02:58That's why our advice is not to look for other symptoms as long as the child is infected.
03:07It's important to rule out dengue as soon as possible.
03:11Yes. It's hard to distinguish it from other diseases.
03:17It's like in the presentations, it's like a flu. The body is sick and the head is sick. That's what we see.
03:28The paracetamol, many people think, is the medicine for the disease. But he's only using it for the symptoms, not for the flu.
03:38Yes, it's for the flu. But the virus is still multiplying in the body of the child.
03:45After three days, the child will have abdominal pain, he won't eat or drink, and the child will be paralyzed.
03:57Those are the dangerous signs of dengue.
04:01What steps will you take by Quezon City LGU to address this outbreak?
04:08The mayor's order is that all the government, including the government of the local government,
04:14should help in solving the dengue outbreak.
04:17The barangay captains have been ordered to look into their dengue control program.
04:24The priority is to kill the adult mosquitoes.
04:29They can bite the mosquitoes in the clusters area.
04:34All their sprays will be followed by clean-up drives, both in the schools and in our community.
04:42We have identified where these places are.
04:46If you go down to our barangay, that's what you will see in Quezon City.
04:54Dr. Cruz, thank you very much. Thank you for joining us.
04:58Good morning and thank you very much.
05:00We talked to Dr. Rolando Cruz, chief epidemiologist of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division.
