The sun came out for a successful event led by Saundersfoot Runners to help raise donations and awareness for the James Criddle Foundation’s Tenby based food bank.
Taking place on Sunday, March 2, it was the third year that the Food Bank Run event had been held, which was once again well attended.
It proved to be perfect weather for a run, jog or walk along the Heritage Trail to Pleasant Valley, with the fundraising event starting and finishing at Wiseman’s Bridge Inn who kindly allowed organisers to use their beer garden as the collection point.
The brainchild of Sarah Don, the Food Bank Run was initially just a run at Sarah’s club in Fareham (Hampshire, England) to collect donations for the local food bank. After hearing about the support the food bank gave to those in the area and the huge success of the run, Sarah and her club decided to make it an annual event.
However, Covid and personal circumstances had other ideas so it wasn’t until 2023 that the Food Bank Run became a national (and then international) event after Sarah set up a Facebook page to ask running groups across the UK and the world to support their own food banks.
The James Criddle Foundation was set up in 2022 in memory of James who tragically died in a motorcycle accident while living in Bali.
“We love working with Saundersfoot Runners on the annual Food Bank Run – it’s such a friendly, happy occasion even though the need for it remains a sad reflection of our times,” said James’ mother Rachael, who helped found the Foundation.
Thanks goes to everyone who took part, and to everyone who donated food and bought raffle tickets. The Foundation also received £126 from Wiseman’s Bridge Inn who had organised a quiz in aid of the charity.
