00:00Have you been thinking about quitting porn and you're not quite sure if putting all the effort
00:05in will be worth it? Or perhaps you've tried to quit before and you failed, so you don't even
00:11think you could do it anyway if you did try. Well, what if there was a way that not only you could
00:18quit successfully, you could speed up the stages so that you can feel and perform better as fast
00:25as possible. I'm Dr. Trish Lee. I help millions of men leave porn behind so they can finally live
00:33the life that they want to in terms of feeling good mentally and physically and being able to show
00:39up in the world and in the relationships in the way that they want to. So in this video, let's talk
00:44about the three stages of quitting porn and how we can speed them up. So number one, stage number one
00:51is deciding that you want to quit. So people tell me all the time when I meet them for the first time
00:58in my program that they've been listening to me for years and that they finally realize that what
01:04I was saying applies to them and that when they finally realize that, yes, the situation I'm always
01:11talking about is indeed their situation, they were ready to commit. Committing to the journey of porn
01:18recovery is the first step. And the faster you commit 100%, the easier and faster all the stages
01:28will be. And I will tell you why. Because many people leave the back door open. And what I mean
01:34by that is they commit 95%. And that 5% can keep them lingering in a, you know, peak and valley
01:43situation where things get, are going well, quitting's easy, but then they have a slip or a relapse,
01:49then it's going well again, and then it's not going so well. That 100% commitment is essential
01:56to be able to speed up the timeline of recovery. And it's easy to think about it in terms of if you
02:02decided you wanted to get fit. If you wanted to lose weight, gain muscle, become super fit and active,
02:09of course, you can just decide to stop eating junk food. But that's only get you a little bit
02:15of the way. How do you get all the way? You hire a nutritionist, you get some books, you get into a
02:21program on getting fit fast, you get a personal trainer to help you learn how to work out with
02:27the best technique. So if you want to succeed, you commit 100%. And then you get yourself the tools
02:33that you need to make that commitment work. So number one is you have to realize that what I'm
02:40talking about is if you have a porn habit, whether we call it addiction or not, that we know from
02:46science, even one time a month, watching porn can impact the way that your brain performs and how you
02:55show up in terms of mental, physical, and relationship health. That is known by science.
03:01So if you have a porn habit, you likely fall into the category of hypersexuality, which means that
03:09your view on sex is different than healthy sexuality because of porn. And it's also changed
03:16the way that your brain performs and your brain needs more dopamine to feel good. Unfortunately,
03:22what happens is then your brain becomes desensitized by high levels of dopamine. And that leads to anxiety,
03:29depression, anger, and irritability in your life because you're in a dopamine deficit state.
03:35You need more dopamine, which leads you back into the screen. So when you commit, it's time to break
03:42that cycle and double down on getting healthy dopamine from your life again. Stage number one is realizing
03:50you might be caught in the hypersexual loop. What I'm talking about does apply to you.
03:55And deciding to quit 100% is absolutely necessary for you to succeed, which leads us to number two.
04:03Now you've decided to quit. You're all in 100%. What happens from there? You most likely cannot do this
04:11alone. And that's not really my opinion. There's science that shows that even when people have programs
04:18to quit porn, it is still very challenging. Whether you realize it or not, porn is highly
04:24addictive. So if you've been watching it, you're likely wrapped up in the cycle of addiction, which
04:31means when you decide to quit, you will likely experience withdrawal symptoms. Now here, we liken it
04:38to an alcoholic. If an alcoholic decides to quit alcohol, it will be very difficult for them
04:44without professional help because they will have urges and cravings. If they don't have it on day
04:50one or day two, usually by day three, four or five, they will be craving and looking for that hit of
04:58alcohol. And in your case, it's dopamine from porn to not only feel good, but to not feel bad.
05:06Withdrawal means you might feel bad if you're not getting the high levels of dopamine that your brain is
05:12used to on the cycle that you're used to giving it. Now, if you're in a situation where your
05:18partner has found out about your porn habit, or if you're in trouble with the law, or if you're in
05:23trouble at work, many times this can create a micro brain reset. And what that means is you might be
05:30able to go longer without porn because your brain has shifted a little bit because of urgency. And again,
05:36we know from science that the bigger the loss, the easier it is to quit because of this brain reset
05:44that happens on a micro level, but can happen on a macro level if you implement the proper tools and
05:50techniques. So getting into a program can be imperative. And when you do, guess what happens?
05:56If you're working strategies and techniques, if you have a plan and you're moving through it,
06:02what you're doing is you're rewiring your brain faster. The faster you rewire your brain to the
06:09healthy mode, the less you have withdrawal symptoms. And one of my clients, he was really sweet. He's
06:16like, Dr. Trish, when am I going to experience withdrawal? And I'm like, you're not my friend.
06:21You're already through that because you double down and you did all the techniques and strategies
06:27and exercises. You implemented all the different things into your life right away. So your brain
06:33unwired and rewired very quickly, unwired from the pattern that needs the dopamine from porn,
06:39rewired to the one that doesn't. And the faster you do that, the less you will have withdrawal.
06:45Now, why is that important? That's imperative because what happens is then you succeed quickly.
06:51Going back to our analogy about getting a fitness trainer, a personal trainer,
06:56getting a nutritionist, the faster you learn how to eat well and your food is delicious,
07:00but healthy now. And you're working out and you're feeling good and you're feeling strong.
07:05You're not struggling to figure out how to exercise. You get on a roll faster, which makes it so that
07:12you feel successful and you get that flywheel going. And that's what we're talking about from a
07:17neurological standpoint. We want to break the negative feedback loop, create the positive feedback loop
07:22through neuroplasticity, the cycle of upward change. The faster you rewire, the shorter that recovery
07:30time is, the better you feel faster. That's shown scientifically. Okay. So stage number one is
07:38you've realized you do fall into hypersexuality and you've decided to commit 100%. You're going to get
07:45rid of all your porn and you're not making any excuses. Number two is you've decided you're going to quit
07:51and you're going to implement techniques and strategies. So you shorten that withdrawal period,
07:56or hopefully you avoid it altogether. What's stage three? This is the best part. This is when recovery
08:02becomes a peak performance aspect of life. In the third stage, you get to reinvent yourself.
08:09You get to become the version you've always wanted to become. If you were caught in a porn habit
08:15and you're isolating and you disengage from the life that fed your soul, now it's time to get back
08:22to that life. And so many people feel lost in this journey. When people join my program and I say to
08:28them, what do you love to do? What's fun for you? You know, truly, what do you love? What would make
08:33a rounded life? They have no idea because they've been caught up in this thing for so long. So figuring
08:39out who you are and having the courage to be that version, that's the third stage. And it's the
08:46exciting stage. You have to have the courage. But the beautiful thing about courage is it's only
08:51exercised in the face of fear. So of course, if you fear this stage, like, I don't know who I am and
08:58what I'm going to become. And I don't want to break from the tribe and be seen as someone who's
09:03different. It requires that. It requires you to really double down becoming who you want to be.
09:09So let's move to your brain hack strategy. Get your journal out, get your pen out and do this.
09:16Figure out if you could do anything on your deathbed, the one version of you, what would that
09:23version look like? And I'll give you an example from my life. I used to be a college professor for a
09:28long time. I loved that. I was a great college professor. What's that thing called?
09:33Where you'd get chili peppers. Rate my professor. I always had high ratings. People love my classes.
09:39Yeah, got a chili pepper. But the idea is that was a great shadow career for me because I always
09:46wanted my own business. But educating people and empowering people has always been deep down inside
09:53of me. So when I decided to quit the university, that was terrifying because I had just been promoted
10:00and tenured. You should have seen my father's face. He's like, girl, what are you doing? And I'm like,
10:05sorry, dad, I got to go out on a limb and become the me I've always wanted to. Which now my dad says,
10:12said it to me multiple times that he appreciates my fervor for doing the things that I want to,
10:18even if they seem crazy in the moment. And even if I can't see the payoff there. Actually, I talked to my
10:24older sister today. And I was talking about the book that I wrote, which is coming out in a few
10:29months. And she's like, you know, it's not like you had a book written before you got this book
10:35contract. I'm like, actually, I did. I had the book written. She's like, you wrote the book without
10:39knowing you were going to get it published. I'm like, yeah, that's me. You've met me, right? She's
10:44like, oh, yeah, I guess so. I would never do that. I wrote the book because I wanted into the world.
10:48And the opportunity came to me because I wanted it ahead of time. So being courageous in the face
10:55of fear and putting in the effort to become you, even though you can't see the payoff. That's what
11:01this is about. Peak performance. You go be the you that you want to be, regardless of your mother,
11:07your brother, your sister, your father, your partner, be you. And the people in your life who
11:15are an emotionally healthy friends and family, they'll show up for you. If they can't show up
11:20for you, then you can show up for you. That's what this journey is about. So figure it out. Who do you
11:26want to be and go for it? So you're going to decide to quit porn 100 percent. You're going to get in a
11:34program. It doesn't have to be mine. I do offer a program that's top notch porn free brain forever.
11:39Go over to DrTrishLee.com. Check it out and reinvent yourself. In my program, the majority
11:45of it is dedicated to you reinventing yourself and becoming the version that you want, because
11:51that's the crux of the journey. And it's fun. Once you unwire and rewire your brain, this is the
11:57hardwire stage and you will enjoy it. You should enjoy this. Recovery is about recovering the true
12:03you. And it should be enjoyable once you get past that tricky part at the beginning. Okay. I hope
12:09this helps you out. Please go over to the blog post to read more about this topic in particular.
