00:00I just wanted to say this, broader point, San Francisco 49ers,
00:05and I know Grandy's been harping on this show last night, he will again tonight,
00:09he has been for weeks on this show, and I think we're all in agreement.
00:14This feels more important than other drafts for the 49ers
00:18because they're turning the roster over.
00:21They let some guys go, they've got more holes than they have in recent years,
00:25and they're about to pay a quarterback, I think,
00:28but that's sort of what leads to my broader point.
00:31I'm feeling a little frustrated in this moment with the Niners' offseason process,
00:38and it's not just about this year, it's about where we've been.
00:43It's about Nick Bosa and Brandon Ayuk and Trent Williams and all the others,
00:48and now here we are, and whether George Kittle accepts Diana Russini's report or not,
00:54whether he's actually not at the voluntary offseason program because of contract stuff
01:01or if he's just chilling and wants a few more weeks with Claire
01:04or whatever the hell they got going on.
01:06In WrestleMania this past weekend.
01:08No doubt.
01:08Like, I don't think there's a problem, but there's that combined with the fact
01:14that even though Brock showed up, that obviously to me means
01:18things are heading in a very good direction.
01:21Brock is playing this the way he's playing it.
01:23There's that side to it, but in general, Niners,
01:28I think you are repeatedly paying a we're waiting too long tax
01:35for whatever you're doing.
01:37You're paying a tax for waiting as long as you do.
01:41You are too deliberate, and it has been proven repeatedly.
01:47You waited with Brandon Ayuk.
01:49You paid.
01:50Now, is that going to happen with Brock?
01:54Probably not.
01:55You didn't have really an opportunity to do it much before now,
01:59and there's not anybody else this offseason that's going to break the bank
02:05in terms of quarterback.
02:06You could argue, though, that what Geno Smith got clearly states,
02:11well, you're definitely going north of 50 now with Brock.
02:14I think that that was probably happening anyway.
02:18You could argue that, but the one that stands out this offseason is George Kittle.
02:22Like, I don't know what you're going to pay him.
02:24I have full confidence that you will, but you waited until after the Cardinals
02:28paid Trey McBride, and the price went up.
02:32So the Niners are stubborn.
02:34We know this, but another way to say stubborn is deliberate,
02:37and you keep waiting.
02:40You keep being the last team to do X, whatever that X is,
02:45and I just think you're paying a tax.
02:48And I don't know, man.
02:50It doesn't feel like that's working for you in a lot of these cases.
02:55Was it two or three quarters?
02:57Maybe it was a game and change, but whatever it was,
03:00and then he got hurt.
03:01But it took him some time to get into that zone,
03:04and you waited on Christian McCaffrey,
03:06and he came in with a double calf tendinitis,
03:10and then he ended up getting a knee injury,
03:12and you waited on Trent Williams,
03:14and he came in and didn't have a good year either.
03:17So I wonder at what point do you decide to change your approach?
03:20And right now I'm not that worried.
03:22I did think that the Brock Purdy would be done before the NFL draft,
03:26before the NFL draft started,
03:27and even if I skewed it to before the NFL draft finishes,
03:31it's not getting done.
03:32It's not going to happen, yeah.
03:33But he did show up,
03:34and so that tells me that they're not at an impasse
03:38and that Brock is not so mad that he's like,
03:41F you, Niners, I'm not showing up.
03:43For me, the fact that he showed up tells me
03:46that at least it's somewhat cordial.
03:49I agree with you.
03:50I'd also add that, you know when people go,
03:53like they circumstantially think Brock will take,
03:56I mean there are people still cruising around out here in this world
03:59who think he's going to take $33 million a year.
04:01Right.
04:01Like I know you, you're out there, I've talked to you.
04:04We all have.
04:05And that's not going to happen.
04:08I think that the reason there's people out there who think that though
04:11are because of the Brock Purdy story and circumstances.
04:14It's like, oh, you were Mr. Irrelevant,
04:16which means that at some juncture in your life within the last four years
04:20the league didn't think you were that good.
04:21And even though you've come out and proven everyone wrong
04:25and been to multiple playoff appearances and won playoff games
04:29and won playoff games from behind and all the things that you've done,
04:33some people are still watching Brock through that lens.
04:36And I don't really think that it's relevant when it comes to dollars.
04:41I do think it's relevant when it comes to showing up for voluntary
04:46off-season workouts.
04:48I really do.
04:48I think Brock is looking at this going, okay, like this team is really about
04:56to be given to me in a very firm way.
05:00They like, we're already negotiating and even on the low end of what's being
05:06discussed, they are about to hand the team over to me, Brock Purdy,
05:13and I would like to take care of that.
05:15And no one has told me that.
05:18That's just a belief.
05:19That's me reading the situation.
05:22I agree with what you said too.
05:23I think talks are at least on the right track.
05:27But I also think there's a piece of it that's like, dude,
05:29I'm not going to get flippant with this opportunity now that it is finally
05:34being handed to me.
05:35And I don't think that he would get flippant unless they were at a spot where
05:40he felt like that they were truly disrespecting him.
05:42And I'm looking at the Geno deal and he signed two and 75, which is 37 and a
05:47half a year.
05:48Sam Darnold signed for three and slightly over a hundred, which is 33 and a half
05:53a year.
05:54So I do think that when Brock gets ready to put pen to paper, he's going to be
05:58north of Darnold.
06:00He'll be north of Geno.
06:01Will he be at a spot where he wants to reset the market?
06:05I don't think that that's the case, but eventually they're going to find a
06:08number.
06:08They're going to find the years and hopefully it happens before OTAs because
06:12voluntary workouts is fine.
06:15It's voluntary.
06:16And by him showing up, that tells the organization, yeah, I'm still into this and
06:20I'm still into being your QB, but you get into OTAs and the real like, you know,
06:26mandatory OTAs.
06:28Now, if he doesn't have a contract and I'm Brock and it's what June right now,
06:32it's a different story.
06:33Totally, totally agree.
06:34All right.
06:34The Niners are nine picks away.
06:36We've got a couple of names who have already gone off the board here as round
06:39two is underway.
06:40Grandy, what's going on?
06:41Yeah.
06:41First pick in round two to the Cleveland Browns, Carson Sueshinger, linebacker out
06:45of UCLA.
06:46A lot of people identified him as maybe a target for the Niners since Dre Greenlaw
06:50left.
06:50So he's unavailable now.
06:52And then a guy that you guys chatted with Greg Cosell about Houston 34th overall,
06:58second pick of the second round.
06:59Jaden Higgins, wide receiver out of Iowa State goes to Houston.
07:03And then most recently, the Seattle Seahawks are now on the clock.
07:07They have traded up into the very beginning here of the second round with the Tennessee
07:11Titans.
07:11So that Titans pick 35th overall now belongs to the Seahawks.
07:15They are on the clock.
07:16Okay.
07:17So the Seahawks really want somebody and they're going to jump up there and get him.
07:21The Jaden Higgins thing.
07:22I mean, look, I'm no expert on the Houston Texans, but I think that's a fascinating position
07:28for the Texans.
07:29Obviously, Stefan Diggs is no longer there.
07:31Uh, Nico Collins has become a star.
07:34He is flat out one of the top 10 receivers in the game for sure.
07:38Tank Dell with another really sort of ugly injury for the second year in a row in his
07:43career.
07:44So I don't know kind of where that's going from here, but that's interesting that Houston
07:50would use such a valuable pick on that position.
07:55Right.
07:55It's always felt like a position of strength the last couple of years.
07:58But you just, you laid it out and you lose Diggs and you've got Dell who's been hurt.
08:02And I'm just looking at ESPN and they're doing through the draft, they're doing player comps.
08:08Jaden Higgins.
08:08Do you know who his player comp is according to Matt Miller?
08:11No.
08:12Nico Collins.
08:13No way.
08:14Yeah.
08:14So you got Nico Collins and then you just drafted Nico Collins.
08:19Little Nico Collins.
08:20Right.
08:21Six, four, two, 14.
08:22So I just, when you were like laying it out about the Texans and I was just clicking on
08:26it and it's like Matt Miller's pro comp, Nico Collins.
08:29So maybe they agree with Matt Miller because Nico Collins, he's that dude.
08:33Dude.
08:33He is amazing.
08:34Top 10 for sure.
08:35And I think underrated when we have the conversation still about receivers around the league, partially
08:42because he's still kind of new, but Nico Collins is about as effective as they come.
08:48No, he's not Jamar Chase.
08:50He's not Justin Jefferson, but he probably leads like the crew of who's next when it comes
08:57to young wide receivers in the game.
08:59I really like him.
