00:00As the cause of the nationwide blackouts remain a mystery, Spain and Portugal's leaders call for investigations.
00:11Three people were confirmed dead by police in a shooting attack in the eastern city of Uppsala near the capital, Stockholm.
00:20UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warns the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine is at a point of no return as fighting continues in Gaza.
00:31Day one of the annual European People's Party Congress taking place in the Spanish city of Valencia this year wraps up.
00:42As Spain and Portugal slowly return to normal following nationwide blackouts, the cause of the disruption remained a mystery on Tuesday.
00:51Portugal's Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, has called for an EU inquiry, while his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sánchez, said reforms will be made to ensure it does not happen again.
01:29Spain's private operator, Red Electrica, has ruled out a cyber attack, but Sánchez said his government will also still conduct an independent analysis.
02:04By Tuesday morning, Red Electrica said 99% of energy demand in Spain was restored,
02:11and Portuguese grid operator, REN, said all its power substations were back online.
02:20Swedish police say three people were killed in a shooting attack in the eastern city of Uppsala, near the capital, Stockholm.
02:27Local media say a manhunt to locate the perpetrator who reportedly fled the scene on an electric scooter is underway.
02:35The attack happened in a residential neighborhood.
02:37A large area was cordoned off by police who launched a probe into the attack, which is being investigated as a murder.
03:01The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear, and police did not provide details about the suspect.
03:08Crime has been on the rise in Sweden, where gang violence has spiked in recent years, leading to frequent gun, knife and bombing attacks.
03:15The United Nations Security Council held a session on Tuesday to discuss the conflicts in the Middle East.
03:26Topping the agenda was the war on Gaza and the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe after Israel moved to resume fighting six weeks ago.
03:34The session was attended by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres,
03:38who warned that the promise of a two-state solution is on the brink of disappearing.
03:42The two-state solution is near a point of no return.
03:46The international community has a responsibility to prevent perpetual occupation and violence.
03:52The UN boss also warned against the altering of demographic and geographic realities that could hamper any future settlement.
04:00Guterres explicitly announced the Security Council's rejection of any territorial changes to Gaza,
04:05which he says is integral to a future Palestinian state.
04:08The Security Council has rejected any attempt at demographic or territorial change in the Gaza Strip,
04:15including any actions that reduce its territory.
04:19Gaza is and must remain an integral part of a future Palestinian state.
04:26Palestine's UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour was also in attendance.
04:30In his address, he highlighted the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation,
04:35urging members to take immediate action to rectify it.
04:39An immediate ceasefire must be resumed and all its objectives must be achieved.
04:46President Trump, in his latest conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister,
04:52stressed what he called in his own words,
04:55He also suggested that U.S. President Donald Trump is on board with giving the people of Gaza some respite.
05:11Mansour says the United States is pushing to secure the entry of food and medicine
05:15to relieve Palestinians who have been deprived of basic necessities for weeks.
05:18He also expressed hope that they, along with mediators Egypt and Qatar,
05:24will be successful in securing the return of a ceasefire.
05:30Day one of the European People's Party Annual Congress taking place in the Spanish city of Valencia this year wrapped up.
05:38The party's president, Manfred Weber, running as the sole candidate,
05:41was re-elected as EPP president with 502 votes in favor and 61 against.
05:46In his address, he flagged his role in enlarging the EPP group in the European Parliament
05:52and pledged continued growth.
05:54He also highlighted the party's recent success,
05:57praising Ursula von der Leyen for her re-election as European Commission president
06:01and Roberta Mazzola as president of the European Parliament.
06:05Von der Leyen was also in attendance, where she spoke on a number of issues,
06:09chief among them global trade.
06:11She said that in every crisis there is opportunity,
06:14referring to U.S. President Donald Trump's trade wars and tariffs.
06:18The commission chief said that deals are a negotiation with many countries,
06:22among them India, Indonesia, the UAE, Thailand, Malaysia,
06:26stressing that Brussels remains an influential player on the global trade scene.
06:31Roberta Mazzola also took stage in Valencia,
06:34where she spoke on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
06:36The parliament president reminded her party delegates of the need to continue supporting Kyiv
06:42and stressed that no deal concerning Ukraine can happen without their agreement.
06:49European People's Party sees populism and extremism as their main competitors.
06:55In an exclusive interview with Euronews,
06:58party president Manfred Weber warned of an authoritarian wave arriving in Europe,
07:03explained that he will never establish a structured cooperation with the extremists.
07:09The EPP has started a two-day congress in Valencia, Spain,
07:13where delegates will approve the new direction.
07:16Well, I, as party leader, defined a clear red line to the extremists.
07:20We will never work together with those who are not respecting my three pros,
07:24so pro-Ukraine, pro-rule of law and pro-Europe.
07:28They are fundamental things for us.
07:29So you can name them, it's Le Pen in France, it's AFD in Germany.
07:34There will be never a structured cooperation with them for us as EPP.
07:38So we are ready to include the serious conservative parties in Europe.
07:43For example, Giorgio Meloni showed in Italy,
07:45together with Antonio Tajani, that they are credible, that they are center-based.
07:49When it comes to the relationship with the United States,
07:52he still thinks that an agreement on tariffs is possible with a balanced approach.
07:56But he is more critical when it comes to Vice President J.D. Vance's approach to freedom of speech.
08:02We don't follow the Vance or Vice President Vance concentration that everything is allowed.
08:07No, in Europe, not everything is allowed.
08:09You cannot lie, you cannot do hate speeches there,
08:11you cannot be anti-Semitic in today's world in Europe.
08:14Not everything is allowed.
08:15And this implementation of our rules is making us self-confident,
08:19that we believe in the European way of life,
08:22not following the American, the Chinese or the Russian approach.
08:25At the Valencia Congress, Weber is also set for re-election as head of the party.
08:31The German Christian Democrat is the only candidate for the post.

08:42Controversial Cardinal Angela Batu will not participate in the upcoming papal conclave
08:47following Pope Francis' death.
08:50Convicted of embezzlement in 2023,
08:53Batu said he is obeying the late Pope's wishes,
08:55while maintaining his innocence.
08:59This reverses his earlier demand to join the conclave,
09:02which starts on May 7th to elect the next Pope.
09:08Batu lost his rights and privileges as a cardinal after his conviction,
09:12which was centered around a disastrous London property deal,
09:15but was never technically removed from the College of Cardinals.
09:17At least nine people were left dead in a Damascus suburb
09:27after clashes broke out between pro-government fighters and local Druze gunmen,
09:32according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
09:37The fighting was sparked by an audio clip circulated on social media
09:42of a man attacking Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
09:45The audio was attributed to a Druze cleric,
09:48who later denied being involved.
09:52The clip angered many Sunni Muslims
09:54and led to the fighting in the predominantly Druze suburb of Jarrahmanna.
09:58Syria's Interior Ministry said it was investigating the incident
10:02and urged people to not act in a way that undermines security.
10:07It was the latest episode of sectarian violence in Syria,
10:11which has seen several clashes involving minority groups
10:14since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad.
10:17The new leadership has attempted to unite fragmented armed groups under one authority,
10:21but Druze fighters have resisted this,
10:24saying Damascus failed to guarantee their protection from hostile militants.
10:32Amazon has launched its first batch of internet broadcasting satellites,
10:37kicking off its long-delayed deployment of an internet-from-space network.
10:4227 satellites are now in orbit at an altitude of nearly 630 kilometers above the Earth's surface.
10:49Monday's launch from the Atlas V rocket, which took off from Florida,
10:53follows that of two experimental satellites launched two years ago
10:57as part of Project Kuiper, a $10 billion effort unveiled in 2019.
11:04Competing with rival Elon Musk's Starlink,
11:07Jeff Bezos' team claims that the satellites they're launching
11:10are now much more advanced than the first two.
11:13The company aims to put more than 3,200 of these satellites into orbit,
11:18Musk's SpaceX has already launched more than 8,000 starlinks since 2019.
11:24Meanwhile, a growing number of astronomers are warning
11:27that the large number of satellites is hampering their work
11:31and could pose an accident risk.
11:33Hydraulics continue to look good.
