00:00Now Newcastle United were without midfielder Joe Linton on Saturday as
00:05they defeated Ipswich Town by three goals to nil with Joe Willock having to
00:09deputise for the absent Brazilian midfielder who was missing because of a
00:14knee injury. It's been an injury that he's been carrying for some time now in
00:19the Premier League and of course the Carabao Cup as well nursing it but
00:25getting through games probably most likely via painkillers but now he's had
00:30to miss a game there are concerns over how significant this injury is. Joe Linton
00:34was said to have gone to see a specialist at the weekend and he also wasn't
00:39pictured in training ahead of Newcastle's trip to the South Coast to face Brighton
00:43and Hove Albion which is a bit of a concern. Newcastle had also had concerns
00:47over Fabian Scherr and Harvey Barnes ahead of the Ipswich win but they were both
00:50fit to play. So let's go now to Joe Buck of the Shields Gazette. Joe what's the
00:56thoughts on Joe Linton? How big of a miss is he? Especially if he's not fit for the
01:01Brighton fixture at the weekend but also just on a more positive injury note the
01:06return of Sven Botman to Newcastle United's squad against Ipswich was a
01:11significant boost for Eddie Howe's side. So looking at that as well as Joe Linton
01:15one out one back in. How's the injury picture looking for Newcastle at the
01:20moment and is it just a case of now players needing to get to the end of
01:24the season? There's only four games left there's no major international tournaments
01:27to play this summer. Is it just a case of players getting through these last four
01:32games and in Joe Linton's case if he's not fit for Brighton trying to get back
01:35for Chelsea and hopefully playing perhaps through a little bit of pain maybe
01:39adding some painkillers if necessary to get him through the last couple of games?
01:43Yeah I think the one with the Joe Linton injury for me feels like it's one he
01:47could probably play with he has been playing with it Eddie Howe admitted he's
01:50been playing with it for you know since he came back really before the cup
01:53final because getting him back for the cup final was really important and
01:55obviously they did that and was it because it was Ipswich you know is that
01:59but I think the thing actually if if Joe Linton's gonna miss a game he missed a
02:02game at Portman Road due to suspension you know and that was that was all
02:06fine so would that be a game maybe that went in their thinking but I would
02:09obviously we'll wait for the update but I'll be surprised if Joe Linton's not
02:13someone who could he could probably play the next four games with you know
02:16painkillers or whatever else to do it so I imagine that if if he needs to be
02:19available then he will be I think the Brighton they could probably get away with
02:23this again but I think against Chelsea he's shown in the past that he can be a
02:25real force in that midfield and the one and back for them games and but yeah you
02:31know it was good to see Sven Botman back as well of course he that was a real
02:34boost to see him even just for a little bit at the end and as you say you know
02:37you've got Fabian Cher and Dan Byrne have been brilliant this year but they're both
02:40the other side of 30 you know they've both played a lot of games so even if
02:43you can have Botman in just to come on at the end in case Cher's feeling his
02:46hamstring or just to give someone a rest it is a good thing to have and really
02:49excited to see him back to his best next year but yeah I think and Gordon as well
02:53as the other one I said he had said probably not match fit with his knee injury
02:56but it is good to see them getting back to pretty much full complement of
03:00obviously Lewis Hall and maybe Jamal LaSalle and hopefully as you say they're just
03:04going to get through four games if the players can manage it without there's no
03:07obviously major tournaments this summer as well so all these players hopefully
03:10know that they've literally got four 90 minutes worth of action and that's
03:14done so yeah it seems they're in a good place I think we all miss the Sven
03:18Botman you know played in the first year obviously he's had two really bad injury
03:21hit campaigns and yeah hopefully getting him back is going to be really good because
03:26even when he came out in January he looked really good for them two months he was
03:29excellent against Arsenal particularly both of them games in the in the
03:33Caravan Cup so yeah having him back is going to be a major boost and you know who
03:37knows who if he starts next year because to be fair Sharon Burn they're going to
03:40someone's going to have to do a lot to displace them as stars but yeah having
03:44Botman back is just fantastic news for Nick that's one with lots of games hopefully
03:48getting played or certainly they'll have eight Champions League games and
03:51hopefully more that they're going to know that these players are going to get
03:54game you know game time and that they can be rotated so when they're playing
03:58away in midweek somewhere in Europe that you know there'll be a different
04:01set the back partnership almost entirely maybe the weekend or vice versa so I
04:05think they have big roles to play everyone all the squads are like the big
04:08characters on there there are lots of leaders in that group and none of them
04:11will want to be on the bench but a lot of them do have a lot of and still
04:16stuff still to offer the team even if they're on the wrong side of 30 so yeah
04:19it'll be interesting summer because they probably need four or five positions
04:23really strengthen as in like first team ready players but the as much as they will
04:26have money this year they're not gonna have money to strengthen four or five
04:28first team because that's you know you're talking 200 300 million for that and but
04:33it's nice to have all these options and you know we saw in the beginning this year
04:36with Tonali come back you mentioned it was all before these new signings even
04:40though they've been at the club Botman is almost a bit like that that next year he
04:43can sort of be a new signing
