00:00Well, former vice president and 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris makes a surprise appearance at the Met Gala in New York City last night.
00:08Just attending the event requires an invitation, not to mention very deep pockets.
00:12And Susie Weiss is a reporter at the Free Press and Jimmy Fallon is the host of Fox News Saturday night and Fox Across America.
00:18It was $75,000 per person to attend, $350,000 for a 10-person table.
00:24And here's a little bit of Kamala's word salad about art.
00:28Let me read this and have you react, Susie.
00:30Okay.
00:30She said, art has always had a significant impact on not just culture, but also our policies and politics.
00:37Artistic expression, whether it's dance, music, visual arts, or fashion, has a way of capturing the mood and language of the people without words.
00:44Art has the power to shape the conversation about where we are today and where we need to go.
00:47I mean, as far as word salad goes, that wasn't the worst.
00:50It wasn't her worst.
00:51And honestly, at this point, they're private citizens.
00:53I don't begrudge them if they want to spend $150,000 on a date night.
00:57But on my way here, I took the train, and Brad Lander was in the subway station campaigning, and he was at the Met Gala last night.
01:04It was sort of like seeing Cinderella, but instead of sweeping a hearth, she was, like, selling bail reform.
01:09And it was not convincing.
01:10Jimmy, I don't know if Kamala really had to pay the 75 grand.
01:16Yeah.
01:17But mostly this comes with an invitation, and you say, yes, I will be there and wear my best clothes.
01:22But when you wonder how her campaign went through a billion and a half in a hundred days, spending habits like this kind of add up to connect the dots.
01:29As far as the statement was concerned, it actually wasn't bad by her standards.
01:34And she was thrown even being asked about art because she thought the Met Gala was a celebration of a baseball team.
01:39Let's be honest.
01:40She was like, what time does Dwight Gooden get in here?
01:42But I like that they're out there celebrating black fashion.
01:45But on a personal level, as a guy who dresses pretty snazzy, I thought she looked like a half-moon cookie.
01:50You know those cookies they sell?
01:52That was kind of an underwhelming effort as the Met Gala goes.
01:55Yeah.
01:55I thought they were called.
01:56He just asked me, what are those cookies called?
01:57There were some protests last night, Susie.
02:01I think we have this out here.
02:02This is kind of becoming common, right?
02:04You have the anti-Israel protesters outside of the Met Gala.
02:08You know, I don't really see how the two are connected.
02:11But I think people will find any opportunity to sort of talk about that subject.
02:18It's funny.
02:19I think both sides of the aisle are kind of claiming to want to tear down the elites.
02:24But then we have two parallel elites that have sort of grown up.
02:27On one side, you have the elites that go to space.
02:29On the other side, you have the ones who go to the Met Gala or get photographed in their living rooms.
02:34Jimmy, you're anti-gravity.
02:35Well, what's so insane about this is they show up to these events where the people they're protesting have no influence or hand in making the policy that they're against.
02:44These people aren't there to open Gaza.
02:47They're there for an open bar.
02:48They have no idea.
02:49Well, I just want to point out to everybody.
02:51Susie, you wrote a great piece about the fashion at the gala.
02:54So you can find that at thefreepress.com.
02:56Who was your favorite?
02:57Who had the best outfit last night?
02:59I think Sha'Carri Richardson is the closest thing we have to a dandy today.
03:02She sort of wears her hair and her nails like armor when she goes racing.
03:06And I think she looked fabulous.
03:08I thought Serena Williams did a great job.
03:09She had a vibe.
03:10That sucker was flowing for half a New York City bar.
03:14I thought that Al Sharpton looked good.
03:15He didn't look good.
03:16By Sharpton's standards, no, it was a clean, good look.
03:20Okay, he didn't look bad.
03:21Madonna stealing an outfit from Siegfried and Roy.
03:23I didn't see it coming.
03:24But I was like, next time, bring a white tiger so we can pet it.
03:27Did you have a best dress, you said?
03:30Listen, I think the goal is to get talked about.
03:33So for the wrong reasons, Janelle Monae probably won best dressed.
03:36Because she went on dressed as like some weird abstract painting slash maze.
03:41You love it when you speak to friends.
03:42Yeah, it looked like something that you occupy a child with.
03:44Her outfit.
03:45I don't know that it was a good outfit, but people are talking about it.
03:48Loved having you guys.
03:49Thanks for being here today.
03:50Thanks so much.
03:51Thank you, Jimmy.
