00:00Lucas just put it up on the 95.7 The Game Twitter page.
00:05Has playoff Jimmy been a disappointment?
00:09Getting a good number of votes.
00:11I just voted no, and that brings it to a dead even heat of 50-50.
00:18Let me read a couple of these on the Boxing Person Work Injury Attorney's Text Line.
00:22Do it.
00:23I think these are crazy.
00:24I think these are absolutely disrespectful, to be honest with you.
00:28Now, 408.
00:30Mark, it's because this team needs to show more effort and want to.
00:34They are capable of beating Minnesota.
00:37The Warriors aren't trying now.
00:39They're not trying hard enough.
00:40Okay.
00:41What else?
00:43415.
00:44I think it's totally fair.
00:45These guys are supposed to be professionals.
00:48They make millions of dollars, and they deserve every criticism they get.
00:53Okay, so now they're unprofessional.
00:55And because NBA players make a lot of money, then we should criticize them when they are completely hamstrung, hampered, and totally under-equipped.
01:10But, Jimmy's not.
01:12I mean, Jimmy's out there playing.
01:13Oh, yes.
01:14They're all allowed to go play.
01:16They're all allowed to go play.
01:18I think, have you, has anyone seen someone look like they're not trying?
01:22I mean, late in that third quarter, it looked like that they had kind of lost their will to compete.
01:28And that it was a small sample, and I would not indict any individual or the team.
01:34They gave up a 17-0 run.
01:37They were down 20.
01:38It was late third, and I kind of sensed that the Warriors had a little bit of that feeling of like, well, this one's getting away from us.
01:45And you know what?
01:46I did, too.
01:46That's pro sports.
01:47And I don't know if it led to them not trying, quote-unquote.
01:51So, no, I would not say that.
01:53Which is why I answered the question, has Jimmy Butler been a disappointment?
01:57My answer is no.
01:58He's been fine.
02:00He's not been, I don't think, spectacular as you.
02:03I think that's the word.
02:04I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I think you said.
02:06Well, I'm looking at the whole experience.
02:07You're right.
02:08I'm not judging this man on the last three games.
02:10I'm not either.
02:11And that's kind of what I'm getting at.
02:12I think a lot of people are.
02:13But the question is playoff Jimmy.
02:14Has playoff Jimmy been a disappointment?
02:18And if I had to answer yes or no, the answer is no.
02:21It's not an emphatic no.
02:22It certainly isn't a yes.
02:24He has not been disappointing.
02:25And you highlighted it very well, game four, where the rebound that he snatched and the performance he had in that game, if they lose that game, they're in real trouble in that series, I believe.
02:37And, you know, it turned out they needed that win and just one more to get the job done.
02:40And so that was a Jimmy Butler performance for the ages, which would lead me to say, no, he's not been a disappointment, but I do want to see him do something tonight that he didn't do in game four.
02:51I want to see him score 60.
02:53But I'm not going to if he if he comes up short of of of willing an entire team of young kind of maybe role player ish people.
03:06If he comes short of grabbing all of them and going to Minnesota on one day's rest and beating who I think is one of the best teams in the NBA who is young and completely healthy, am I going to call them a disappointment or unprofessional or lacking effort or all of these things?
03:26And listen, I maybe I'm hearing of the minority out there.
03:31I don't know.
03:32I don't know.
03:33We get caught in that because we're in an echo chamber that has like obviously the people who have something negative to say are the ones who are often compelled to say something to text a radio show or call a radio show.
03:46But I just think that it's crazy.
03:49I think it's crazy.
03:51Honestly, like I'm not saying you can't assess athletes.
03:55You don't need who was a Ph.D. who called Stiney and goo to know that Brandon Pajemski is cold like an ice bucket right now.
04:03I'm a scientist and you guys aren't.
04:06That's true.
04:06And Moses Moody has totally lost his way.
04:09That's not analysis.
04:11Those are facts.
04:12That's just a statement that we all can see.
04:16But does that make them unprofessional, lacking effort?
04:20Yeah, that's not that's not the way I mean, what are we doing to these guys?
04:25They lost their steering wheel.
04:28Right.
04:28But Jimmy Butler is a guy, in my opinion, who needs to step up.
04:32If he goes out tonight and shoots the ball nine times in a loss, that will be disappointing.
04:38If Jimmy Butler does not try to exert his will on Minnesota and do all he can to try to score because of what you just described, like who's their number two score right now?
04:49They don't have one.
04:50It's buddy from three.
04:52If he's open, if he's hot, it's J.K. off the bench and the ha ha and he's going to attack the basket.
04:58Beyond that, you need Jimmy Butler to go out there and shoot the ball a lot.
05:02You need him to get to the foul line.
05:03You need him aggressive.
05:04You need him to attack.
05:05So if he goes out and shoots eight or nine times tonight, I would be disappointed.
05:09Understood.
05:10But what if I responded to that this way?
05:12Who else do you think also knows that Jimmy Butler needs to shoot the ball 25 times tonight?
05:18Well, Minnesota, fine.
05:19But it doesn't mean he can't get open.
05:22It doesn't mean he can't get his.
05:23It kind of does.
05:25I mean, like if five guys are like, let's just go focus on him.
05:29And then we'll make the guy with the floppy hair out there shoot a three because he's only hit three buckets in the last week.
05:35Or if Moody comes in, yeah, let him shoot.
05:38Or GP2, let him shoot.
05:40Let's just put all five of our guys on Jimmy Butler, including seven-foot Rudy Gobert, four-time DPOY.
05:47Why can't they do that?
05:48Because that's what they're doing.
05:49Well, they can.
05:50He'll go by Jimmy.
05:51He'll go by Rudy Gobert.
05:52Right.
05:52But then Nasrid is waiting for him.
05:55Or Jaden McDaniels is waiting for him.
05:57Do you want Jimmy?
05:59Like, what if I asked it to you this way?
06:01You want him to force it?
06:03Yes.
06:03I want him to force it.
06:04And I think that's a fair answer.
06:07As opposed to.
06:08It's not going to go well.
06:08Well, you don't know that.
06:10I mean.
06:10As opposed to the alternative, which is not force it and rely on lesser players to try to carry the load.
06:17I want to see him force it.
06:19And I know Jimmy doesn't do that.
06:20I make the smart basketball play.
06:22And, you know, I go back to game.
06:23I think it was game five against Houston where he went two for ten.
06:26And they got motorboated in that game where he was mostly ineffective.
06:32Well, now you don't have Steph Curry.
06:33So, for me, you don't have the luxury of deferring to lesser players.
06:38888-957-9570.
06:40I don't also think that passing guys, passing the ball out to guys for an open three is deferring.
06:48Do you know what I mean?
06:49Like, sometimes I feel like I hear basketball analysis and people think that it's five individuals on the floor.
06:56And then we get to pick and choose who we want to go shoot the basketball.
07:00And the game doesn't work that way.
07:03It's five people who are all working together in order to get an open shot.
07:06You can't just select who shoots ahead of time.
07:10You can do that sometimes when there's, like, five seconds on the clock.
07:14You can be like, here, Kobe.
07:16Go try to force a shot.
07:19Sure, maybe.
07:21But, like, I mean, remember the play where the Warriors needed a three play?
07:24I forget who were they playing against where they needed a three with, like, two seconds to go.
07:29And they designed a play for Buddy.
07:31Remember they threw it across the court?
07:33Yeah, instead of Steph.
07:33Instead of Steph.
07:35And why did they do that?
07:36Why would they not have Steph shoot the ball?
07:40Why?
07:41Because I think he was double teamed.
07:42Because he was quadruple teamed.
07:44Yep.
07:45Because the opponent also was like, we're not doing that.
07:48We're not letting Steph shoot the ball.
07:50Anybody else.
07:51And that's exactly what they're doing to Jimmy.
07:53And I don't think Jimmy looks at defenses like that and thinks, I'm going to shoot it anyway.
07:58Because it's a bad basketball play.
08:00Well, our worst basketball play is to give it to somebody who is ice cold, four for 24.
08:05That's what's out there.
08:06Right.
08:06I mean, what do you, like, you know what I mean?
08:08What would you have him do?
08:09Shoot the ball.
08:10Like, take the mid-range.
08:11And if you watched last game, and I know you did, there were so many opportunities where he gets to the foul line.
08:16And instead of just going right up, he stops, and he's pump faking and pump faking, and Pods is doing the same.
08:22They're not playing with the aggressiveness that I'm looking for from Jimmy Butler.
08:26So, you know what?
08:27Go out tonight and go 9 for 30 in a loss.
08:31And I won't criticize that.
08:33But if you go 5 for 9 in a loss, that to me is not what I'm looking for.
08:37His goal is not to shoot 25.
08:40His goal is to win the game.
08:41Sure.
08:41But you're not winning the game.
08:43I don't know if you're winning it your way either.
08:45Like, that doesn't sound good.
08:46Like, go out there and force shots up against Gobert and McDaniels.
08:50Like, I would actually rather take my chances with maybe Pods or Moody will find it.
08:56Like, maybe they'll hit a cup.
08:57Maybe they'll actually see the ball go through the hoop tonight.
09:00They've done it before.
09:02Maybe they will again tonight.
09:03It's possible.
09:03I'd rather take that than play 1-on-4 basketball on the offensive end with a 35-year-old with a sore butt.
09:10Well, Game 3, he shot 26 times.
09:12And that's the closest they've been since Steph went out.
09:15They lost by 5, and he shot 26 times.
09:17No, I'm not disagreeing with you in theory.
09:20But I don't think you should just go in.
09:22I don't think you can predetermine that, I guess is what I'm saying.
09:25Like, that has to be there.
09:27I don't know if it's going to be there.
09:28If it's not there, I don't want him to just get his shot blocked rather than an open 3 from a cold player.
09:35Wouldn't you agree with that?
09:37It depends on who the cold player is.
09:38Because right now you've got 3 or 4 guys who I'd rather not ever see shoot again.
