00:00To me, this is still a 50-win basketball team.
00:02Yeah, I'd take the under on 50 wins.
00:04Okay.
00:05If you want to make a little wager, we could do that.
00:08I'd be happy to make a wager.
00:09You want to put it at 49 and a half?
00:10Sure.
00:11All right, let's put it at 49 and a half.
00:12What do you want to put on it?
00:14You name it.
00:15Name your stakes.
00:16If I...
00:17You owe me babysitting, and I...
00:18No, we're not doing babysitting anymore, because it's not realistic, because your family wouldn't
00:22even allow me to do it anyway.
00:24And I'm not driving...
00:25The lovely Christie would be there.
00:26I'm not driving to the East Bay after a show.
00:29Let's do something realistic.
00:33If you win...
00:34Let's see.
00:35Let's put some pizza on it.
00:36Fine.
00:37Let's put some pizza on it.
00:38Let's put some pizza on it.
00:39Sure.
00:40That way, Grandy and Lucas can reap the benefits.
00:43No matter who wins, they win.
00:45Oh, I was going to go...
00:46Yeah, I like that.
00:47I was going to go by the slice.
00:48But anyway.
00:49Nice.
00:50No, let's go to Telmo.
00:51Telmo, welcome to Call-In.
00:53When Div says the Warriors are, quote, in trouble, I get where you're...
00:57It's not that your concerns are not valid.
00:59They just feel a little bit too in ink for me.
01:03I get it.
01:04For me, yeah.
01:05I look at the roster, and I look at what you're asking these players to do for this team.
01:10And Andrew Wiggins, again, great example, where he had another K-Wig game where you
01:16shot the ball seven times, and he was a minus 20 against Denver.
01:19I like to talk about that, by the way.
01:22Can we be impactful on the regular?
01:25That game was a disturbing game for Andrew Wiggins.
01:28That was the old Wigs.
01:29Yeah.
01:30I didn't find it disturbing.
01:31I get where you're coming from.
01:32I'd like to actually talk about that in a sec.
01:34But Telmo, go right ahead.
01:35888-957-9570.
01:36Do you think the Warriors are, quote, in trouble?
01:39Hey, Telmo, thanks for calling.
01:41Hey, guys.
01:42How's it going?
01:43First of all, a pizza isn't a bet, okay?
01:48That's what you give your children when they do have a good week at school.
01:52You guys gotta do House of Prime Rib or go home.
01:54That's a bet.
01:55A Manhattan and a steak.
01:57You know what the problem is with that, Telmo?
02:00I get where you're coming from.
02:02The problem with that is, is that means that after we've sat here and spent five hours
02:07together, we need to go somewhere else together, and I just don't think that anybody's up for
02:13it at that point.
02:14No, no.
02:15Just a gift certificate.
02:16A gift card.
02:17A gift card.
02:18The gift cards have ruined the holidays, by the way, but anyway, go ahead.
02:23So here's my thing.
02:24Here's my thing.
02:25One, Daniel Gibley is, I don't know if Guru's rubbing off on him or what's going on, because
02:31he is starting to do this high-low emotion reactionary thing because, yeah, they lost
02:38five games.
02:40That is not good.
02:42But in those five games, okay?
02:44They were up by 18, 17, and 12 points late and towards the end of the third quarter or
02:51further in those games.
02:53And then the Brooklyn game came down to the wire, so they didn't get blown out in five
02:58games.
02:59They didn't play five games of bad basketball.
03:02They had four games where they had stretches where they made mistakes and didn't get it
03:08done.
03:09That doesn't mean they're a bad basketball team.
03:11That means they have things to figure out, and that means that some players didn't make
03:16plays when they needed to.
03:18That does not constitute a bad basketball team or a bad brand of basketball.
03:24The last thing I'd like to add in here is to Mr. Gibley.
03:28I know his basketball acumen's pretty high.
03:31He did coach Pee Wee Basketball, if I believe.
03:35But does he think that he sees something in Brandon Podjimski that Steve Kerr doesn't
03:41see?
03:42Because Steve Kerr, who is, I consider, somebody who would know a little bit about basketball,
03:47seems to think that Brandon Podjimski has a future in the league.
03:51So calling him overrated, and maybe he's overrated based on expectations that media put on him,
03:58not anybody else, that would be fair.
04:01But seeing that he's a sophomore, I just don't think it's fair to say he's overrated
04:06when somebody like Steve Kerr has the confidence in him to not only keep him around the organization,
04:13but want him to grow and put him in situations where he will develop for the future.
04:20It's the fans, Telmo.
04:21Thank you for the phone call.
04:22The fans are the ones who overrate him, not so much the media.
04:26And yeah, he's a good player, but you watch him shoot the basketball from beyond three,
04:31and it's awkward.
04:32And you could say that, oh, he's going through a little bit of a funk right now, shooting-wise.
04:37His three-point shot is worse than Jonathan Kaminga.
04:41His three-point shot is worse than Jonathan Kaminga.
04:45So if you want to just start with that as a baseline for Brandon Podjimski, and yes,
04:50he does all the little things, and I enjoy watching him play, but if he is a starter
04:55on your team, if he's a mainstay on your team, to me, you're not a playoff team.
05:00Because he's not that guy.
05:01If he's your starting member of your backcourt, your two-guard, and he's playing 26 minutes
05:07a night, you're not a playoff team.
05:09You want to know what's interesting about Brandon Podjimski, I think, in this conversation,
05:14is that he played too much last year for us to be fair to him.
05:19He doesn't feel like he's as young of a player as he is.
05:23He's 21.
05:24When I hear you talk about Brandon Podjimski just now, like, if you were saying that about
05:28any other second-year player in sports, people would be like, dude, dude, like, can he grow
05:34for a second?
05:35But he doesn't feel like that because he got so many minutes last year.
05:39I hear more people talking, hey, relax about Kaminga.
05:44He's only, he's in year four, for God's sake.
05:48Brandon has played one year and 20 games.
05:51And now we're already on statements of, like, if this guy's a big part of your rotation,
05:55you're in trouble.
05:56Like, can he have a minute?
05:59Can he have a minute here now?
06:00Sure, he can have three more years.
06:02But my point is, if you are relying on him to be a starter or to be a 25-minute-a-night
06:07guy, I don't think that you are a real threat in the Western Conference.
06:11I think if you're asking him to score 17 a night, I agree with you.
06:15But he can start.
06:17You're allowed to not be a great scorer and be a starter in the NBA if you do a bunch
06:22of other things.
06:23You can, but you already have five of those guys on your team is the problem.
06:25Well, no.
06:26I don't know about five of them.
06:27And there are lineups.
06:28That's Steve's job, is to make sure there aren't too many of them on the floor at the
06:31same time.
06:33The reason Steve, to me, is banging on the table the other night about being smart is
06:38because of what you're saying.
06:40Brandon right now is pressing.
06:42He is pushing.
06:43He needs to chill.
06:44He needs to chill.
06:46I would argue that a lot of the young warriors need to do what we all know happens in the
06:50NBA.
06:51Get a circle, and everybody take a few hits.
06:55Relax.
06:56Look at you.
06:57Relax.
06:58I wasn't sure you were going to bring that to the air.
07:00Yeah.
07:01Jonathan's over here needs his contract.
07:03Brandon's hair is just flopping off, freaking out all that like, dude, the arms are up after
07:09every play.
07:10Oh, the ref and coach and I review and dude, chill.
07:17Just chill.
07:19You're fine.
07:21It would be good if you could shoot.
07:23But right now, you can't.
07:25You can still be on the floor, but your second year, you're learning.
07:31But that was Steve's message, I think, the other night, and obviously, he's given it
07:34to Brandon directly 18 times if he's now doing it to the media, and he admitted as much to
07:39us yesterday.
07:40By the way, here's what Steve said about Podjamski in the sophomore slump.
07:44Brandon had a really good rookie year, came into his second year, and he's thinking, I
07:49got to do this.
07:50I got to do that.
07:51But he's just lost a little focus on what actually wins.
07:57And for example, the fouling, the two, three point shooters, we can't do that.
08:03We've talked about this from day one of camp, fouling jump shooters, it leads to losses.
08:08It really does.
08:09I mean, you can see that stat in the league.
08:12You can feel it, not just the free points.
08:15It's having to take the ball out of the net.
08:17It's getting to the bonus earlier.
08:20So, you know, I think Brandon's trying too hard.
08:23I mentioned that at the press conference, too.
08:25He's trying so hard to make a great play every time.
08:29And you can't do that.
08:30You can't play that way.
08:31So maybe he's just trying to justify everything from last year, Joe's comments or whatever.
08:36I don't know, but it's all part of it.
08:38So I'm not concerned about it at all.
08:41I just want him to understand that we've got to speed up this process of growth as it relates
08:48to what what wins games and what we need from him.
08:52And that's that's part of what's happening right now.
08:55I thought it was interesting that he brought up the idea of justifying Joe's comments.
08:59And for those of you who don't know what he's referring to, he's referring to Joe Lacob
09:03saying that Brandon Budzinski is a future all star and indicating he didn't use the
09:07word untouchable, but sort of indicating that, like, that's not an asset we're looking to
09:12trade.
09:13That's a future all star.
09:15And yeah, that's a lot.
09:17That's a lot to put on someone who's played one year in the NBA.
09:21And I heard the guys earlier talking about all the names of people who've made the all
09:25rookie team who then ended up sucking out loud in the NBA.
09:29Yeah, it happens.
09:30It happens a lot.
09:31Just because you're on the all rookie team does not guarantee anything.
09:35So the idea that he's out there already with that label now, future all star.
09:41And then he was the one who said future face of the Warriors.
09:44Yeah, dude, dude, chill.
09:47Just chill.
09:48Well, he doesn't.
09:49He doesn't play like that.
09:50But he needs to chill.
09:51But you can't.
09:52But he needs to think like that.
09:53He doesn't need to play like that.
09:54He needs to think like that.
09:55The way he plays is not chill.
09:56And that's what has gotten him all the way to the association is because he plays with
10:00his hair on fire.
10:01His hair is flying all over the place and he's taking charges and he's closing out guys.
10:06But he has to be a little bit smarter about what he's doing.
10:09And the Denver game is a great example.
10:11He fouled two three point shooters, one of whom made the three four point play.
10:16And those are things that you just can't do.
10:18And the other piece of it is his shot, 20.6 percent from three right now.
10:23It's brutal.
10:24It's ghastly.
10:25He's 14 for 68 from three.
10:28And that's something where, you know, when you have a team that wants to shoot a lot
10:30of threes and you already have a bunch of guys who don't shoot the three very well,
10:35Looney and Slow Mo and TJD and GP two guys who are on the floor a lot.
10:41These are guys who already don't shoot.
10:43So if you're playing out their pods, you're going to have to be able to shoot the ball
10:46a little bit better.
10:47You say 14 for 68.
10:48Yeah, you should be 13 for 68.
10:50He banked one of those things in.
10:51It counts.
10:52And that doesn't GP two four for 19 on the year.
10:56Twenty one percent.
10:57Yeah.
10:58And coming is at what?
10:59About twenty nine.
11:00Thirty percent.
11:01Twenty nine point seven.
11:02Yeah.
11:03Yeah.
11:04And Slow Mo's at twenty seven point three.
11:05All bad.
11:06All bad.
11:07Leal in Oakland.
11:09Next up on Willard and Debs.
11:10Say Leal.
11:11What's going on?
11:12Hey.
11:13Overall, I'm not really upset.
11:17I mean, looking at this, some of these games are really, you know, they're close either
11:23way.
11:24They win by two or three or something.
11:25They lose by two or three.
11:26I think there was one you guys remember which one there was one that really bad blowout
11:30game.
11:31You know, what was it?
11:32Twenty points or thirty points.
11:33You know, one hundred and thirty to eighty eight or something.
11:35OK, that's bad.
11:37They haven't been performing.
11:38You're thinking about the Cleveland game, Leal, if you're if I'll let you keep going.
11:44But if you're talking about the five game losing streak, they were technically all clutch
11:47games.
11:48They were technically all close with five minutes to go.
11:51I agree.
11:52I agree.
11:53That's what that was.
11:54That's my simple point there.
11:56It's basketball is winner take all.
11:59You can lose by a point and it's a loss, but you can win by a point and it's a win.
12:04And it's sort of been a clutch season.
12:06My sort of take overall.
12:07This is my take.
12:08It's been sort of a clutch season except for that one.
12:11OK, so am I worried?
12:13No, I think they need time to get together.
12:16Correct me.
12:17But the only time they really get to get to play together in a competition is on the court
12:22during a game.
12:24And you need games.
12:25So, you know, another 20 games from now in January.
12:28So I think they're going to have their rhythm really together.
12:31I mean, that's just my sense.
12:33You know, that's all.
12:34Leal, thanks.
12:35Did you hear the way Steve ended the interview yesterday?
12:39No.
12:40Where is it?
12:41Right here.
12:42I was like, OK, thanks, Steve.
12:43And he was, I don't know if you're listening.
12:44He was cooking stir fry for his first daughter.
12:45And we asked him what was in it.
12:46And the first thing he said was swordfish.
12:47Our head did the same thing yours just did.
12:48It's crazy.
12:49We're like, damn.
12:50OK, Steve.
12:51OK.
12:52But before he wanted to hang up, he wanted to say this.
12:53We're going to bounce back.
12:54Like I said, I feel good about this team.
12:55And it's going to be a fun year.
12:56OK.
12:57It's going to be OK.
12:58Right.
12:59Don't take these.
13:00And that's what he's always going to say.
13:01And that's what he's always going to say.
13:02And that's what he's always going to say.
13:04I don't believe that.
13:05I don't think that Steve has ever come on and said, you know, guys, we're in a world
13:06of hurt right now.
13:07No, we're not very good.
13:08Of course not.
13:09We stink.
13:10Hold on.
13:11We lost five in a row.
13:12Of course, he's going to say that.
13:13No, no.
13:14He is very often not said that.
13:15That's when you know.
13:16Of course, he's not going to say we suck.
13:17No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
13:18no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

15:56no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
16:02with me two nights going, he's good likely, I think that like the random games and now
16:08he's got new tendinitis and he's going to miss tonight, I don't know if you're watching
16:11the NBA right now, they're all missing games, right but this is a job of a buffer. This
16:16team doesn't have another player. This team doesn't have a fall back plan of Steph misses
16:20game. What's their record without stuff this year? I guess pretty good. Isn't it? Probably
16:25three? You know? I know the first three. I know that's a small sample.
