All purpose thread is gonna come in 1 of 3 kinds, it is either going to be polyester thread, it will be a cut and covered polyester thread. Or, it is going to be a 100% cotton thread. The polyester threads the strongest, the cotton thread is the weakest but they are all completely appropriate when you first start sewing. So the main thing is look for all purpose thread even if you are sewing things for the house and most people kind of start out with pillows and cushions and duvet covers and things like that. Even though it could border on being upholstery, you do not want to go the store and just buy up all the upholstery thread, it is a little too heavy. Most of the time all purpose thread is what you need.
